  The love you didn't get as a JW...

  often, i hear people say that there is no love in the jw org.

  can you give personal examples of this?.

  ok, this is your chance to say what "love" you expected from the org.

  There may not be love or unconditional love, but there is something. I took a call at my parents house the other day from Bethel, asking if a certain JW was in my parents congregation as there was an emergency and her sister on the other side of the world was trying to locate her... Bethel trying to track down the sibling of a JW, ever hear of that? They didn't call back and so I take it they found the sister of the sister... I don't know if that was love or kindness in using the system of communication they have.

  Equally my mother lost touch with JW friends on the other side of the world for 25 years, 25 years later someone from that area was in my parents area, and a name was passed on, lo and behold a few months later, contact was re-established. Like a Year Book story, friends reunited after a quarter century, all made possible because of the JW's... Now I don't know if that is love, but it isn't hate.

  I think the JW org is bad, but I think there are a lot of good people caught up in it.

  i went to a friend's house last night.

  i was talking with him about religious issues.

  i told him i no longer feel that the witnesses have the truth.

  Well, like chief morlock here, I have to say 'You're a (wo)man who's haunted by those two most terrible words.... What If?'

  All I can say is; w hy waste this life which you know is real, hoping for another which may not be.

  The way I look at it is simple, even if they are right, or if any religion is right, it doesn't mean you should do what they say just so you can live in their little paradise, that is like prostitution. No thanks, it's my life, my way, my death. Even if JW paradise was real (which it is not), would you want to be there, knowing how many men women & children were slaughtered to satisfy their God's ego just to put you in paradise? Not on my watch.

  Did you meet any con artist types there?

  it seemed to me that there were a number of con artist types of personalities i came across during my years there.

  i am not referring to people who were actually doing anything illegal.

  what i am referring to are people who were very adept at getting things out of other people.

  i knew deadbeats who would move to different congregations and move into the house of different jw there, just for a free place to live, in return they would study and go to meetings, when they got on their feet they would move out and stop going to meetings, then when they were down again, they would find another person (or the same person) and move back in with them for free, and go back to meetings again. i saw a few guys like this in my life as a jw.

  Cloning....Right Wrong .... A post from NYT

  south korean scientists stunned their rivals around the world last week by announcing that they had produced the first human embryos that were genetic matches for diseased or injured patients, and had done so by a highly efficient method that could bring further rapid advances in cloning.

  it was sobering evidence that leadership in "therapeutic cloning" has shifted abroad while american scientists, hamstrung by political and religious opposition, make do with private or state funds in the absence of federal support.

  the korean achievement, published in the online edition of the journal science, makes the current debate in congress over federal financing of stem cell research look pathetically behind the times.

  I saw on TV not long ago, a program where they said that within our lifetime it would be possible to have replacement body parts grown on a cloned body, therefore transplants would not be a problem, neither would amputated limbs etc. Maybe it is a bit frankenstein like, but in all honesty, if I lost my legs and could have new ones grown and attached to me, of course I would want it, and if all of the vital organs which are prone to failure can be replaced when they get old. Heart, Kidney's, Liver etc... Well, wouldn't it be worth it?

  Maybe we are meant to die after 70 years, maybe we're not, but I think cloning body parts will do away with the need of organ donors, blood donors, false teeth etc. People always whine about playing God, but why the hell shouldn't we, if God can do it and it's morally okay, then so can we. If those fundamentalists believe in God, then that God made mistakes, just like men will. In all honesty I would rather trust a dr. to attach a new arm to my body than pray to God and ask him to do it.

  When any one of Jehovah's Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate. Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter. If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other's presence, (imagine doing this if the accuser was a kid or a woman who'd been raped) with elders also there. If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time.

  However, even if the elders cannot take congregational action, they are expected to report the allegation to the branch office of Jehovah's Witnesses (not the legal authorities) in their country, if local privacy laws permit. In addition to making a report to the branch office, the elders may be required by law to report even uncorroborated or unsubstantiated allegations to the authorities. If so, we expect the elders to comply. Additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.

  It strikes me as interesting that they will only NOT report it to WT Headquarters if the law says they cannot and they only WILL report it to the legal authorities if the law says they have to.

  it's truly a wonderful sense of freedom.

  what i'd like to know from you guys is when you left, what did you do then?

  I found the "emptiness" inside me was the self loathing I was raised with.

  here here, even if you don't think your parents raised you with self loathing, being raised a jw means you are raised by a whole lot more than just your parents.
