  KKK, Nazi's, the JW's, and my bad.

  my jw brother came around to see me, and i drew the comparison that jw "mentality" was similar to that of kkk and nazi members.

  although he didn't really let me explain why i thought that and stormed out.

  since i didn't get a chance to discuss the differences between healthy groups and un-healthy groups, i wanted to get your input.

  Well, I dunno about calling the KKK and Nazis evil. It seems too much like a media-arranged manipulation, repeated enough times so everyone ends up believing it. It reminds me of those Warner Brothers cartoons with signs nailed to the trees saying "TURN BACK!" "Bad stuff is here" "Go back" "This means you". So most people are lost in the forest and never find out exactly what is being talked about.

  Initial coverage of Waco and Ruby Ridge said that dangerous fringe groups "bent on violence" live there, but it turned out to be the FBI line parrotted by the media. REAL violence was committed against them, they were victims. Questions were raised as to whether the FBI set off explosives at Waco themselves to kill off David Koresh's group. At Ruby Ridge, the FBI shot a mother holding a baby IN THE BACK, killing her.

  But thanks to the Internet, you can find out for yourself about any group, straight from the horse's mouth, and if you think there is anything evil or destructive about them, objective proof should be obtained. Are White supremacists evil? Go to the White supremacist website like http://www.stormfront.org and find out. Are anti-Semites evil and destructive and irrational in thinking anything ill about Jews? Go to http://www.jewwatch.com and find out.

  Speaking of MLK....

  ok so i'm talking to my kid (4) today about martin luther king and the importance of the things that he believed in.

  he is in preschool and they also talked about mlk in school apparently which i think is great.

  i asked him what he learned about mlk and he said he that he was a 'special man because he cared about people and he said it didnt matter what they looked like'.

  Martin Luther King was not as hot as everyone says he would be.

  The following is certainly not suitable for preschools but when we are adults we can learn that Martin Luther King Jr. wasn't his real name, it was "Michael King Jr.", he just changed it without any legal name-change process when his preacher father MLK Sr. started to call himself "Martin Luther" and Jr. started doing the same thing. King Jr. had ties to Communism, plagiarized the work of another to get his Ph.D. but his college said that was okay because he was Black and "just recontextualizing information", and had sex with two White hookers the night before he got shot. The FBI were stunned when they were engaged in bugging King's hotel-rooms at just what went on, but they were in a bind. They could tarnish King's reputation easily, but it might be seen as "racism" and the conversations recorded were way too graphic for mass-media, if they were just politely summarized by newscasters they wouldn't have been believed, so the tapes were sealed up by a court until the year 2037.

  This had two effects: US leaders who resists a Martin Luther King holiday have good reasons to, but often can not be totally clear on their reasons. It also led to a strange difference in acceptance of Bill Clinton's adultery, where most Whites were opposed but most Blacks claim it's no big deal. Apparently adultery of even religious ministers like King or Jesse Jackson becomes more acceptable in the Black community, just going by the examples available.

  My parents in the 1970's somehow got hold of issues of THE PLAIN TRUTH magazine because it seemed at the time to be a general stroke-book for the Christian faith. But it turned out to be a specific cult led by Armstrong, who turned out to be against other Christians. Every article would SEEM to address current events in a vague way, claiming there were MORE wars, MORE drugs, MORE disasters and this only confirmed "Bible Prophecy". Half the article talked about things in the real world, then the other half twisted it around to some Bible quotes and that the only solution was Jeeeeezuz.

  Much like the WATCHTOWER when it talks about the world only to convince you that being "worldly" is bad.

  1. is it possible to worship jehovah without a earthly organization, just on your own?.

  2. if jesus came to earth today would the wt society make him get baptized and then df him for apostacy?.

  i was just wondering this because i received a book yesterday from my parents called "draw close to jehovah" i skimmed through this book and found nothing new, same old rhetoric from the 80's.

  Also, why would the JWs say they are the "only" Christians to associate with? Rather selective in their thinking, for Jesus said "whoever is not against us is for us," chiding the apostles for trying to copyright the ability to cast out demons and cure lepers and whatnot. People are going to be Christians each according to their geographic area of the big beach-ball we call the world and each in their little denominations and little customs, but in the face of Jesus' example none are so narrow-minded as saying you have to join THIS group, based in Babylon-on-the-Hudson of all places, and do things just their way and no other.

  hi, just wanted to introduce myself, i am 28 and from london and i am looking for some opinions.

  i have family that are jw's and in my late teens i began bible studies.

  i came close to baptism but was too scared about what i thought i would be giving up if i took that path.

  I know the local police force were screaming for a bigger budget but crime and murders actually went down that year. Don't believe the people who say the world is getting worse and worse and wars and calamities are increasing. It was not just the WATCHTOWER magazine of the JW's giving that impression, it was also Armstrong's PLAIN TRUTH magazine (do they still have those?)

  Let's look at it objectively. Compared to an ignorant shepherd of 3,000 years ago, you

  1) live twice as long with that young 300-year-old medical system that really works

  2) can't be pushed around by a king, drafted, or sent to war so easily

  3) are ten times as educated in mandatory primary and secondary schools and can even go further (that is if you're not a JW)

  4) are twenty times cleaner

  but according to the JWs God spoke to those guys covered in sheep droppings but won't speak to you because "you're not pure enough". So enough about the "good old days" already. Seems to me the more strongly Christianity is in control of people like in the Dark Ages, the worse things are.

  being one of jw's for 20 years, of course i never knew any web sites like this were around.

  i have been df'd for almost 2 years now and i still can't get it out of my mind that i am going to die.

  The website http://www.freeminds.org even has a DVD or videotape series of an actual group therapy session with 60 ex-Witnesses. That's a good idea. Even if geographically you can't find a support group for ex-Witnesses you can see what this bunch talked about and even see them improve.

  The awful feeling that you're lost outside the cult is an ILLUSION, they set it up for you while you were a captive audience in the cult. Life outside of a silly fringe belief is not so bad, really!

  I was going to mention http://www.free-minds.org as well.

  They even offer DVDs or videos of a therapy session for ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. People talk about their experiences, in particular learn to let go the awful feelings that outside the cult they are doomed. It's all a "paper tiger," an illusion, like I wrote elsewhere. Because the human mind can be trained to do amazing feats, it is a little TOO flexible because it will believe anything. Cult recruiters in universities were getting so bad in the 80's my university had to set up a Cult Awareness Week.

  Anyway, even if you're geographically isolated and can't locate ex-Witnesses, you can see ex-Witnesses talk and even improve on the video series.
