  Did the second-class status of JW women ever bother you? Does it now?

  if the jw organization were considered a normal business operating without the protections of being a religion, it obviously would have to make some big changes in order to avoid being sued out of existence for sex discrimination.

  i wasn't raised to think that women should be relegated to second class status or that they should have less opportunities than men or be relegated to a limited set of life roles.

  however, when i became a jw, i freely accepted all the sexist nonsense that came with the territory without ever being bothered by it.

  the groom is certainly not "given away", is he? I also doubt that most American brides these days who include this ritual in their wedding ceremonies have really thought much about what it implies or what its origins or significance must have been.

  Kinda makes me wonder why the WTS didn't decide the origin of that particular ritual was not to their liking. Is it like they are saying, "birthdays and holidays are out, but go ahead and give away your daughters like they are some kind of property" ?

  Personally, I was glad I couldn't be called on to give a prayer and didn't need to be bothered to do (most) congregational duties (only the glorified toilet scrubbing for me!). But I do resent their expectation that women be passive and submissive. No, wait a minute.... I was NOT resentful, in fact, I was GRATEFUL .... with a HUMBLE attitude !!!!

  This hilarious bit of text is from the March 15, 2004 watchtower study article...

  Faithful anointed Christian women did not resent that only Christian men were assigned to teach in the congregation. (1 Corinthians 14:34,35). Rather, they were happy to benefit from the hard work of male members of the congregation (only the ones with "scriptural qualifications"?) and were grateful for the privileges open to women (why can women clean toilets but not carry microphones?), including that of bringing glad tidings to others. Zealous anointed sisters today manifest the same humble attitude, whether the appointed elders are of the anointed or not.

  high blood pressure, I believe that! I suggest sending a few posts on JWD after each exposure to the WTBTS, which has been proven to bring blood pressure back down to normal.

  I would have a few choice words for him, too. I'm sorry you are going through this. I've had jobs with difficult superiors and I just couldn't win with them. It's best to just not waste any more time there. Get busy finding something else, if you can.

  PS I'd leave before winter, otherwise then he'll have you shoveling snow, too!

  Millions Now Living Will Defiantly Die.

  my mother passed away in february.

  she was a pioneer for 40 years and steadfast in her jw beliefs to the day she died.

  i flew to kentucky to find her cold and dead in her bed.

  I'm really sorry about your mother, weasel.

  I've also been thinking a lot about their claims in 1920 that "millions now living will never die". Of course, they have effective ways of neutralizing most believers' conflicting thoughts and feelings on this. Didn't they just blame the man who wrote that (or exclaimed it to the conventioners) ?

  Here's a suggestion for them - maybe they meant, spiritually. Millions now living (spiritually) will never die (spiritually)? Or maybe they meant "millions now living will never die, and by never, they mean definitely ? Maybe "never" can mean something different now than it did then, like "generation" means something different now than it did a few years ago... all they need to do is redefine "never". AAARRRGGGHH !

  ick! well, there's one CO the girls won't need to be worried about... Personally, I don't like to be hugged by strangers. These people don't even know my first name, and I haven't bothered to learn theirs, I hold my hand out to shake and they insist on hugging.... maybe what was said above about cults invading personal space could be a factor? Can't be sure, but women especially have to deal with that fake stuff all the time.

  sometimes i look at the world and i think "man, how much longer can it go on?

  " sometimes i think perhaps armageddon will come in my life-time.

  the one scripture i always think of is the one in revelation where it says that jehovah "will bring to ruin, those ruining the earth.
