  food at the assembly

  remember a few years ago 97 and down even more there use to be food at the assemblys(not the big rent-astadium ones).

  i remember back then probally being 5,6,7,8 they use to give out food like hots hamburgers chips and so.

  any idea why there isnt anymore?

  Ah! "Statistical Manipulation"!! In reality, there are more jobs available, on average, and a lower unemployment rate, on average, than in the previous four decades (US). That is a fact.

  It may be hard to believe that the current 5.6 percent unemployment rate is lower than the average unemployment rates during the 1970s (6.4 percent), 1980s (7.3 percent) or 1990s (5.8 percent). In fact, unemployment is at its lowest average since the 1960s. The point is that unemployment statistics are based on a sampling of businesses and households, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation and spin. Overall, the indicators seem to bolster the view that unemployment is very low, at 5.6%. Underutilization of labor is not unemployment. There are many new busineses and independant contractors that are missed in both the household and businesss statistics. These will be accounted for after the election.

  Sorry, but if you drop out and give up, you shouldn't count:
  Laziness should not be rewarded or acknowledged. There's a big difference between being unemployed and taking whatever job you can get until something better comes along, and giving up. The 9.7% number that left wing media throws around is underutilization, NOT unemployment. Unemployment is at 5.6%. What do you think the underutilization numbers were in the Clinton era? Care to guess? Hint- 12.7%.

  There is NO GUARANTEE in the Constitution or anywhere else of a job paying as much as you'd like. How much BETTER can it get? Unemployment is at it's LOWEST compared to the averages of each decade since the 1960s!!!
  
  One more point: those who are fond of bringing up those "1000 jobs" from last quarter?s reports apparently don?t realize that those 1000 jobs do NOT account for start-ups, the self-employed, and independent contractors. Those numbers will not come out until late this year, after the election. So anyone laid-off who started their own company or became self-employed is missed in the "1000" number. And the ?we lost 53,000 jobs? banter is lacking in the same manner, that is, that number in non-inclusive of start-ups, the self-employed, and independent contractors.

  EVERYONE has the opportunity to educate them selves, to work hard, to save or not save, to plan or not plan. That goes back to PERSONAL responsibility. Those "discouraged" folks need to pick themselves up by their bootstraps and either be employed, self-employed, or be an employer. Why yes, there are some who will get jobs from time to time, then either get sick of them and quit or get themselves fired and go on unemployment. If they can?t find a job at the same pay-scale, then it is their choice to accept or not accept a lesser paying job. A lower paying job is better than NO JOB.

  It's not the Bush administration's fault.

  If there is no demand for your talents, then move to where the demand is, or find something else to supply.
  
  The economy, by all measures, is improving, not dying. I fail to see any substance to yet another liberal media myth.

  Things that really bothered you.....

  i was thinking about the "glorious" past of my association with the witnesses..... and i started thinking.

  were there ever things that really really bothered you that they were doing, and it made you stop and think about what you were really getting involved in?

  mine would be at an assembly.

  What you are referring to is part of the larger problem the JW "organization" has with "outward appearences" rather than the "person of the heart". Yes, the "Society" gives lip service on occasion to inward qualities, but the truth is that it is the outward qualities, especially "works" that will get you percieved as "spritually strong".

  Consider:

  - Make sure you get your minimum 10 hours, and "pioneer" if you can (or have a good excuse why not)

  - It's best to be wealthy, and generous (showily so). (Big house, nice new cars, wear high-end suits. clothing, jewelry, flash that cash).

  - Keep fit, and "well groomed".

  - If you're a "brother", make sure you grab a title ASAP (Ministerial Servant, Elder, etc)

  - Only associate closely with those of your "status".

  - Have the confidentiality abilities of a sieve.

  - Make sure you don't get caught doing wrong, emphasis on don't get caught.

  -Make most of the meetings (or have a good excuse why not. Depression, Problems at work, and Illness are great excuses).

  - Bonus: Be from a large family that has many Elders and Ministerial Servants; this greatly reduces the need for "discipline" if caught engaging in "wrongdoing".

  Now, if you've done the above, you will easily have the edge overanyone who is:

  - Genuinely kind and considerate, to ALL, regardless of "status".

  - Lives within modest means

  - does not gossip

  - Dresses "modestly"

  - Shows true love, compassion, and empathy.

  Remember Dateline??

  i'm trying to get some comments that active jehovah's witnesses may have heard after dateline aired back on may 28, 2002.

  do you remember any comments made about the dateline program either made from the platform at the kingdom hall, or in private conversations with other jw's?

  how were the people who where on dateline viewed in your area, especially at the kingdom hall or by other jws?

  She's in her 70s, and methinks she's just too stubborn and doesn't want to hear the truth about the cult she's been in most of her life.

  I can only speak for my Mom, who's still a JW. My GF and I recorded that Dateline episode, and took it to her to watch. She refused, saying it was "Apostate", just like when we told her about the UN, blood transfusions, etc. Jaydubyah "truth" is whatever the societ tells' em, at least for the die-hards, of which my Mom is one.

  Guess What? I Got ANOTHER Visit From An Elder Today

  today, an elder stopped by my work just to say hello and invite me to the memorial!

  he asked me if the presiding overseer had called me yet because he and another elder were going to give me a call at home to set up a visit.

  he said they (the elders) decided this on their elder's meeting last night.......so what do you think is going to happen when i tell them i'm not going to allow them to make a "shepherding" call???

  Else,

  You will be "disciplined". (Reproof, DA, DF, whatever).

  Simple.

  Otherwise, if you don't care about the outcome, do whatever you want.

  "The Wine has not been Spiced........" ?????

  in view of the upcoming holiday season for us jw's (well, sort of holiday i guess), every year in the talk, they make a big point out of the fact that the wine has not been "spiced.".

  when i asked this question several times to those in the borg, they simply say that it means "no additives.".

  my question is, is there such a thing as "spiced wine?
