Thank you for posting how you feel. I drove past a church last Sunday and I was totally turned off by seeing people going to church on easter Sunday. My boyfriend thought it was odd that I felt that way (he left catholicism years ago). For some reason it just really disgusted me seeing these people going to church. It was a very strange feeling. I guess time will tell if we will feel differently. Things are just too fresh for me now.

Sheeplike behaviour?
by boa ink, i just have to relate one of the most ridiculous situations i've ever been in and it happened at bethel.. as most of you know, they have a monday night wt study.
(this makes 3 times you study the article if you prepare for it, attend monday, then again on sunday - jeece!
) since in canadian bethel there isn't enough room to have everyone in the kh they have there, they put others in 'satellite' rooms and hook up with video/sound.. anyway, one night, the study had ended and we were moving on to the song when the sound kicked out but the video still worked.

I remember that feeling of singing with no music. We were so wonderful that we could sing the song without the music (sarcasm intended). I think that my last meeting that I went to I thought "why am I here?" and I just never went back. It was pointless.

Greetings. I am still a newbie and I have been on vacation for the past week so I haven't had a chance to catch up. But I have a little problem and I was wondering how others have handled a similar situation. If a similar topic has come up recently, I apologize for the duplication.
My mother and I have always had a love/hate relationship. There is a new assembly hall going up in the area and my mother volunteers there and sends me pictures of the construction. I do not respond to these pictures as I am not really impressed. She is upset at me now for not responding and has told me that since I no longer associate with the "friends" that I shouldn't BLAME the truth. I should blame my father who is crippled emotionally (but has been an elder for 40 years and a closet alcoholic I might add).
How do you tell a family member that you just do not care about being a JW anymore? I do not consider myself an apostate, but I do see a lot of hypocrisy in the "organization". I do not think I can point those hypocritcal things out as it would turn my mother off and if she still wants to believe in that, then she is entitled. I do not feel I can just bluntly say "to heck with it all" (although that might be the easiest way).
How have you handled telling your family members that you just do not want to be a part of JW land anymore?

Interesting question and one my boyfriend asks me occassionally. He wants to know why my parents "chose" to be JWs after they were raised Catholic. I don't think I would have chosen it. I saw a counselor about 5 years ago and she said that she didn't think the JW life was right for me -- especially because I was trying so hard to conform to its standards. I should have listened to her 5 years ago.
IMHO I think it is difficult (if not impossible) for a single female JW to remain "chaste" until she finds a marriage mate. I think that standard of no sex until marriage is way to high and way to difficult to live by.

Yup. I totally forgot about this until now, but about 6 years ago I was privately reproved (I begged the judicial committee not to be publically reproved). They put me on restriction -- I could answer, but not give talks. Totally took the pressure off of me. They didn't realize they were actually doing me a favor. LMAO When I look back now and think about it -- it is amazing how unimportant it all seems.

Would You Care If You Got Disfellowshipped At This Point In Time?
by minimus injust wondering....
-
Purza
I have not read all the posts yet, but the answer to your question is yes, I would care and here is why. I was DF'd when I was 19. I was at the mercy with three of the "elders" in a judicial meeting. What a crock! A year later I "did my time" and was reinstated.
In any event, I left this time on my own terms and I did not want to give them the privlege, no the honor (sarcasm intended) of getting me in that back room again and grilling me. In a strange way I am proud of the fact that I was able to leave without having to go through that ordeal again. Whether I am fearful or not is a different story.

New To The Board
by exjdub ini just wanted to introduce myself and tell everyone that i have enjoyed many of the posts.
i wish that this resource was available 7 years ago when i walked away from the organization, it would have helped my transition a great deal.
i also wanted to say that it is enjoyable to come to a forum that is not on an angry rant about the organization on a constant basis.

As JW did you Recycle? Did you give to Charities? Do You Now?
by xjw_b12 inthis is to expound on what fe203girl said in an earlier topic.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/69666/1094454/post.ashx#1094454.
it always bothered me as jw, just how little social and global responsibility we felt responsible for.
-
Purza
Nope -- my dad didn't believe in that. And the only charity we gave to was other JW's.
Now the Salvation Army gets everything and that is because they make it easy and I love the slips for tax write-offs.
And we have about one bag of garbage a week (for four people) -- the rest is recycling.

What Do You Stand For?
by Corvin inhonestly now, either you stand for something, or get knocked down for nothing.
brother, it seems absurd to be hammering pith like a poet with a loss for words.

Myself (I ignored myself for far too long).

I remember telling this to a "brother" who was bi-polar that I heard JWs have a level of mental illness. He said there was no proof. Um, sorry, he was living proof, as am I and various others I know. I have heard this statement on more than one occassion. I believe it!
