by Pleasuredome inheres a story of what happened to me at a district convention this year.. an unbaptised publisher and i travelled to wolverhampton district convention in england.
this wasnt our district but id been on holiday and had missed my own district convention (how unspiritual of me).
so me and this friend decided to go to this convention and was also hoping to meet a friend there.. on the saturday morning we were delayed in traffic and we eventually arrived at 11.30am, paid our 3 for parking (i wonder if they had the use of car parks for free?

Thank goodness I and my family got the hell out of this Cult. Sounds more and more like Jim Jones' style of dealing with members. It really is so sad. By the way, can one be legally thrown out of their assemblies for distributing liteature? What happened to freedom of speech?

Will You Celebrate Halloween This Year?
by minimus insome fundamentalists believe halloween is the devil's holiday.so are you doing anything on halloween?

Last year my youngest daughter wanted to celebrate Halloween for the first time, and be dressed up like a Barbie Doll with her 2 girlfriends from school. Initially, even though I didn't want to force my ambilvalence on her, I told her she could celebrate it. I, though was a little uncomfortable about it. I kept thinking of the JW teachings of the evilness of it, and the scariness of it. It was right after 911. Well, I talked about these feelings with a my therapist, and had previously brought in all of the cut out pictures of the pulblications showing people, women and children and puppies being destroyed, buildings falling over, and churches burning, wild beasts with big claws and teeth etc. When we discussed how violent, and evil, and scary these pictures must have been to my children growing up, and how ungodly they really were, my therapist then posed a question to me. Which is more scary and even demonic? Those pictured teachings or the face of a little child dressed as a ballerina at my door asking for candy. I had my answer, that Halloween I happily filled a bowl full of candy, to give to the little trick or treaters, and took pictures of my daughter in her Barbie Costume with her girlfriends. My older daughter came over and helped give out candy and we sipped hot apple cider and enjoyed the smells of pumpkin spice candles. The next afternoon, 2 little boys rang the bell dressed in costumes. They were about 7 years old. I told them they were a day late. They said they knew, but wanted to go trick or treating for candy since they missed Halloween because they had done some community service with the elderly. I happily gave them some candy and money for UNICEF. I am so looking forward to seeing trick or treaters at my door and sooooooo very happy I don't have to look at pictures of beasts and dragons and people getting murdered by God anymore.

DESTROYED !
by Derrick inthe visiting co pointed out in his talk that "people who love to practice evil will be destroyed [very strong vocal emphasis on this word] !
" many of you insist he is referring to those whose only "sin" is not being a baptized jehovah's witness and their children.
after my experiences on the internet from ajwr to h2o to this forum, however, i'm beginning to appreciate that all is not "black" and "white" but many shades of gray, many hues of stunning colors, and a mixture.. why not use the words killed or executed to describe the fate of these evil people, i asked the co afterwards?

2Peter 2, when it speaks about "false teachers" entering into the congregation speaking abusively of the angels must be referring to the CO who spoke to you, and the other elders who like to slander the angels. One of the ways they do this is by calling themselves the "glorious ones" mentioned in Jude, when in fact, this scripture is speaking about the angels. It is the Watchtower who teaches this false doctrine of calling thier leadership the glorious ones and identiying anyone who speaks abusively of them as "Korah". Your CO should do his research.

Can any believer answer this?
by LucidSky init was the point i decided to become agnostic.
i found my final stumbling block in my search for god.
i asked (myself as well as others): why would god create carnivorous animals before sin?

I would think animals insure the continuing of the life cycle of the earth, to keep ecological balance. It seems like a cruel way, and I hate to watch weak sick animals get eaten when watching shows like the Discovery Channel and other shows on Nature. I guess even dinosaurs served a purpose in the engine of the earth as far as obtaining energy from the depths of the earth. This morning while I was having my morning coffee, I held my little aging dog on my lap and wondered why he must suffer from painful arthritis, disease and ultimately death. My heart ached for him and felt so saddened that he will not be with us much longer and wondered why he must suffer for the same things we supposedly suffer from because of "sin". It doesn't seem fair. Just my thoughts

What makes a JW Happy?? That's easy. World events that cause suffering to worldlings. Example: 9/11, Sadaam Huessien threatening mass destruction, people getting shot by snipers, Ossama Bin Laden leading Al Quaida to more terroristic threats, in other words anything that makes them feel their own miserable lives have meaning through the suffering of others. That is what makes a JW happy, and do you know why? Because Watchtower told them so.

refiners fire, sorry to hear of the situation with Mrs. RF. Thankyou for sharing your feelings. I know when things get stressful I tend to back off from friends, and yet will air feelings on this board. Take care.
Ozzie, I love a good bottle of shiraz. Have you tried Yellowtail? It is an excellent wine from Austrailia.

Who Really Has The Truth(tm) Anyway?
by SpannerintheWorks intalk to any jw and they are convinced that not only do they posses the truth, but it is the only truth and nothing but the truth.
talk to born-again christians and they are convinced that god hears their prayers, they've got it right and jw's are wrong for not believing in the trinity.
then we have the mormons.

Spanner... I think the Truth is that "Religion is a snare and a racket". Maybe we as mere mortal humans are put here on earth to live up to our human qualities to the best of the abilitities we have as human beings. To use our qualities, our talents, our gifts of life in harmony with the earth and the rest of the human race. Maybe this is the truth taught by Jesus Christ. The concept of human kindness and compassion for other humans, the animal creation, and the earth. Maybe we have come into this world with a "sacred contract" from the source of life to live our lives while here on earth in harmony and respect for ourselves and all in and on the earth. Maybe there are evil forces that try to confound that concept. I just don't know. I do not believe any man has the monopoly on "Truth". For if that were the case the world would not be in the state it is in because of humans conflicting over differences of religious belief and expectations of what truth is for themselves and others. I think, though, without the doctrine and dogma of religion, the simple concepts that were taught by Christ were the greatest lesson we humans can learn from. The concept of doing the best we can toward ourselves and others, live our lives to glorify the beauty of creation, as best we can, and hope that when we expire we can feel that our human condition on this earth was ok with the Source of it all.

G'morning Flutter, I like your "name" This is a great place to shed the old Watchtower cobwebs in your brain. Everyone is nice here. There are disagreements but that is the thing that makes it so interesting. We were not allowed to voice our disagreements in the borg. You are free to do it here and begin to use your powers of critical thinking. Enjoy your time here while you heal.
