Wasn't Saddam ousted for doing precisely this sort of thing?
by Simon inutterly disgusting.
those responsible should be lined against a wall and shot.
publicly.. i think that would win more hearts and minds than bombing cities and using gunships on civilian areas.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4855930/.

WHOSE GOING TO APOGIZE AND DO 20 YEARS OF HARD LABOR FOR SEPTEMBER 11?
Someone should, and maybe they will. But the thing is, there were no Iraqis involved in 911. The hijackers were mostly Saudi Arabians, and four other mideast countries, but absolutely no Iraqis. The head of AlQueda is Osama Bin Laden and he is a Saudi Arabian. Although I don't approve of revenge, because I think it leads to escalating violence that hurts a lot innocent people, I do understand the desire for it, and I have a strong revengeful streak myself. But I don't see the point at all of aiming the revenge at the Iraqis when they actually had nothing to do with 911. If we were going to invade somebody based on 911, it should have been Saudi Arabia. Although many of us would like to see the hijackers and their backers brought to severe justice, the torture of Iraqi prisoners has not achieved that, and could not ever achieve that, even indirectly, because Iraq was not responsible for 911 in any way. It is frustrating and infuriating that we have not been able to find and punish those responsible (although those directly responsible are dead) but the frustration and rage do not justify the torture of prisoners.

Political word for the day: Simulacra
by SixofNine inshaken, but apparently not stirred.
yesterday in a q & a with editors from detroit area newspapers president bush said he was "shaken" by reports of abuse of prisoners in us military custody in iraq.
yet, according to his press secretary this morning, he hasn't even looked at the taguba report, the one people around the world are buzzing about in disappointment and outrage and half of washington seems already to be reading.

I think it's an interesting analysis. Did you write it yourself, sixofnine? And did you read Baudrillard's America? I've been interested in this idea of the simulacrum since I read (bits of) that.

Frasier was a lot better, objectively speaking, but I love Friends. Frasier was always kind of painful too, and nobody on it is actually very likeable. Frasier is more intellectually stimulating, but generally I don't watch tv to be intellectually stimulated, I just want to be a slob.
I haven't gotten to see new episodes of Friends for years because I live in Europe. We get em about two years old. So after seeing the last episode could someone please come back and tell me how it ended, I can't wait two years.

On or off with the Condoms?
by Atilla ini'm not sure if anyone has been following the crisis in the porn industry, but there has been 5 actors so far to test positive for hiv since a male actor tested positve earlier in the month.
apparently, the male actor who started the whole hiv thing was doing an unprotected porn shoot in brazil and then came back and began to spread the love.
many want to start a mandatory condom thing now in the porn industry.

They should make a condom out of fruit roll-ups. why hasn't anybody done that?
I think there may be a few technical problems to solve first.

Heeheehee, good thread, I'm going to be thinking about old and new sylvia all night. Wish I had a sylvia story to contribute but my imagination has conked out on me. I'll probably think of one after the thread has run it's course. That always happens to me.

Oh, too bad, that's a crummy shift, I used to do it as a waitress when I was a girl. I'm just in a completely different time zone, which means I miss all the cool parties on this board. Oh well.
