I'm probably the worst of all, because if it's 70 questions you better be paying me. Seriously though, while I'm sure there is some validity to this kind of measurement, what I will say is a person's EQ would not say anything about whether they have a good heart.
during my 15 years as a jw compared to the 'pagan' church i am now a member of the love is like 'night and day' in comparison.
no wonder jesus said that a person would know his followers by the love they showed.
i am gonna stick around where real love is a part of life instead of where it is a front for a demon inspired cult that calls itself 'the truth'.
It is interesting to note that with some people - and you might have had these encounters before yourself - the love is sensed instantly, in other words you don't know anything about the person yet so it isn't due to some mental projection.
I've had this happen say walking into a convenience store, I wasn't even in a good mood so there was absolutely no reason to be greeted that way, and I for my part did sense something beyond a smile. I can tell you a simple smile doesn't make me take notice if it is just coming from emotion. (after all, there are flat smiles like the obligatory service with a smile kind of thing) If you know what I'm talking about, you know it is qualitatively distinct and different from just being emotionally happy and a 'people person' or something along those lines. The emotion can be there at the same time, but it is good to actually distinguish.
If you're really sensitive you can pick it up. I was just at a spiritual function over the weekend, this one guy who I haven't seen in probably over a year, who I really don't know personally either, apparently forgot my name. (which, frankly, I couldn't care less about) But THAT was still there, and both of us know the personal stuff isn't important. The only words we exchanged were "Good to see you." And it isn't like it is some exclusive club, it's there for other people too, but it may not be recognized if what one considers as love is some kind of conditional love based on emotional fulfillment or a great amount of personal attention.

I do think people should do whatever they are comfortable with, but at this point I'm just like if you want to play the shunning game, that's your trip.
Really though, there is just no real way to convey all of what I would say to them in a short period of time even if they choose to listen, and frankly it's not easy to have a deep conversation with JWs anyway. Sitting down and having a serious talk with a friend is not making a call on them and leaving literature.

Good call Rich, here's one of me at the Corona 'fest Sassy put on a while back, it's the most recent and a pretty good one as I was all laid back and enjoying myself.
You know, for me since I just walked away I had wanted to keep the doors open for a long time so as not to give any JWs potential reason to shun me, but frankly it's not like they've really been checking up on me a lot and there has certainly been no meaningful dialogue outside the occasional bump-ins and such. So actually if anything if they happen to find me here the posts I make will probably be more meaningful than the little pleasantries we exchange when we do see each other in person. After all it's up to them if they want to burn bridges!
what is there in the opposite sex beyond the physical side that can add to a relationship?
do you believe that for a relationship to be complete and meaningful these other hard to define abstract elements have to be operative in it?
Well, I suppose it all depends on who you ask - what may be meaningful and fulfilling to some may not be for others. For some people physical attraction is about it, which I have no judgements about it's just not where I'm at - in fact in a way I think they're lucky because in my view there is not a shortage of physically attractive people in the world, so they have more options.
For me, I wouldn't even say it's a matter of the non-physical aspects, but I just don't look for a particular type of conditioning. To me physical and mental conditioning, if it is rigid just kind of ruins the whole picture. Now that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a good body and mind, but frankly I just want to relate to a free person you know? That's the way I want to approach life so why would I want anything less in a partner for life? I mean I don't have a shopping list of attributes, but I think a similar general orientation toward life is also good to have. But as far as being free from a rigid pattern, I think that is important for the long run too because you can't grow if you are kind of stuck in your ways, and if you can't grow how are you going to grow with anyone else?
being consciously present in this moment of life's expression, being open and meeting with this present moment of reality, being truly with what is actually here without judgments and mental commentary, does not seem to leave much room for beliefs in deities and their shenanigans.
in fact such imaginings only seem to steal away the vibrant aliveness of here.
so, perhaps, it is when we are not that much present with the truth of life, right here, right now, and rather lost in mental interpretations that we feel a need to become involved in the drama of gods and religion.
By all means enjoy these experiences like Frankie said, I would just add one thing.
Although there is nature in the sense of the great outdoors, in another sense everything is nature. Likewise while you are not limited to some expression of yourself in the way of thoughts and feelings, those expressions are as much you as anything else. So in this sense, then, do enjoy yourself. On a long retreat I found how entertaining the mind can be. In the recognition that the thoughts are not really true, and is not who you are at the core, there can also be laughter.
At a certain point the inward focus will turn outward again, to see that peace in everyday life in the world. And whether we know it or not, that outward focus begins to touch those around us, just by virtue of being who you are. But then inward and outward doesn't really make any sense anymore, it's all the same.
after all of this time developing, talking, working, etc.
i am looking at myself from outside of myself and seeing a person at square one.. the thing is, i feel quite good about realising that i'm here, at this point.
today is the first day of the rest of my life.
Realization is always sudden, it's the actualization that takes time. But without true realization there is just so much ideas, but hope is just an openness to possibilities and potential. Having gotten to this point, you can see in your own experience how hanging on can take the form of supposed freedom from the JWs. In any case, it is a matter of not looking back.
i've been waking up so early on sunday mornings that i finally decided to attend a church today.
it's lutheran, and a work associate invited me some time ago.
taking the risk of being uncovered as an apostate (or at least being under suspicion as one) if i'd have been seen entering or leaving the place, off i went anyway for the 8 am service.
A nice comparison between those two scriptures. On the one hand you got the "baddies" talking about spiritual works such as prophesying and expelling demons, and in chapter 25 Jesus talks about simple, everyday things like being clothed and fed, receiving strangers with hospitality, etc.
It occurs to me that although there is this state which transcends the everyday concerns of life, staying there and ignoring the mundane problems would simply be disconnected. Looked at another way, it's simply a matter of how inclusive love is. ('to the extent that you did not do it to one of these, you did not do it to me') So it's not necessarily about the mundane over the spiritual, but it's just a question of not leaving anything out.
The scripture used the expression workers of lawlessness. If love is the law, then anything that doesn't revolve around love would be lawlessness. It doesn't matter if you do it in the name of Jesus, Jehovah, Buddha or Tao - that is not the point. When I saw the thread on the new KM "Jehovah's day is near" I was like "..sure... God is up there going 'Finally, it's ME time!'" As if..!
