Welcome to the board!
We had a sister in the cong. that conducted wine tastings, so she would regularly hold them at her home and the few times that I went it was always the same people that were there, and all these people were doing a lot more than just tasting the wine. Any gathering we went to had plenty of alcoholic drinks available. I remember when I was ten I was at a wedding reception, I stumbled upon the 'in' group of kids downing quarts of beer, and I got into shit when I went and told someone about this..
While I don't drink regularly I unfortunately do cut loose when I do, resulting in a 2-3 day haze that I don't remember much of, takes a while to recover from that but it only happens once or twice a month.
The advantages of not having an addictive personality mixed with not having to much cash to spend have helped me in this regard..

JW, WatchTower Society, Alcoholism, and Recovery
by BrendaCloutier ini left the borg in about 1979 of my own accord after having my eyes opened (and experiencing) the hypocrisies around me.. in 1982 i sucessfully left my jw husband, who devloped alcoholism, and became a wife-beater when he could no longer control me.
the elders in the congregation (i married into) told me i was to subject myself to my husband, and his justice.. beginning in 1987, i realized my own drinking problem was alcoholism, and i successfully got clean and sober in 1990.. attending that first meeting, on a summer sunday evening in 1987 was shear hell for me.
it was in the basement of a baptist church!

Charles T Russell -a freemason and the connection to the illuminati...
by dolphman inok, i'm not one for conspiracy theories but lately i've uncovered some interesting facts that i think warrant some attention.. first of all, russell was a freemason.
all the early watchtower and books he authored have freemason symbology and art throughout them.
not a big deal i thought, until i read more about freemasons and the so-called "illuminati", a group of 13 families that supposedly control the world.. supposedly these 13 families, such as the duponts, mcdonalds, kennedys, .

I've read similar stuff, a bit more drastic in that it involved lizards and people from mars, but it gets the same point as what you researched.
on the point of the unifed government, last week I saw an add in the paper (South African Mail & Guardian) sponsored by some doctor (I can't remember his name) calling on all countries in the world to unite and join the new Alliance of Nations to take over from the UN. He said that the UN no longer has any authority as they broke the charter by which they exist when they recently authorized the american troops in iraq, this suggesting that any country can invade a smaller country for resources and say later that they needed to do it to survive and get it authorized or something like that..
The more you read about this stuff and watch worldly events the scarier it gets because almost everything fits into the picture..
What I read also tied the ancient Inca (I think) sundial time thingy that predicted the end of the world in 2012, and how the illuminati were aiming to have a unified world government in place setup by then. For what reason I don't know, some theories suggest alien contact will be made then, or the world will have to fight unitedly insome greater war or something..
I don't know enough to explain it properly but it seems plausible in that it is really hard to disprove -

I couldn't watch 'violent' cartoons on tv, so there wnet x-men, he-man, thundercats etc. Eventually we got rid of the tv because it wasn't wholesome entertainment..
I would sit around at school twiddling my thumbs when everyone talked about what they saw on tv the day before.
In creche I used to make up stuff, whenever someone described a scene from a cartoon I would say yeah that was my favourite part, oh that was so cool..
when I went to my dad's place I ended up not watching the stuff by choice because it was wrong
I unfortunately learnt the art of lying at a young age -

If The Population Increases Does It Mean There Would Be Less Demon Control?
by minimus insince the demons can't multiply and produce baby demons, my theory is that if the earth's population increases, then there is less likelyhood that the demons and a singular devil will get to us.....whaddya think?

DireStraitJacket
why can't one demon affected more than one person? dunno, maybe a demonic program on tv or demonised music would reach lots of people, whether they choose to be infected is their own problem..

POLL----Will The Witness Religion Ever Cease To Exist?
by minimus ini think jws will be around forever.
i do believe they will, as time goes on, lose many or most of their members.
but i do think that there will always be some around to continue the religion....maybe years from now they'll become more mainstream, i don't know.

Do people still believe there was a global flood?
there is plenty of evidence that supports that the earth was at one stage flooded, at least large parts of it. eg ancient civilizations in south america who built cities at really high altitudes to avoid the rising water levels -

WT Paradox: ``In Your Face" Religion, Reclusive GB
by Room 215 init struck me that, for all the emphasis they put on evangelism and public preaching, the borg's leaders are actually a reclusive, shadowy lot.
the only large audiences they will address are their own members, they rarely grant interviews and never seek opportunities to lead by preaching their message in a public or media forum.
quite the contrary; in the one instance where jaracz made an appearanace (cornered by a bbc reporter), he came across as combative, and mean-spirited hardly as a spiritual leader of six million-plus.

Isn't their reasoning that they are god inspired and just messengers, hence they do not look for the public eye and gain glory for themselves like televangelists etc. do..
I'm sure they're also trying to avoid 'fanatic' apostates who would try and attack them with their warped interpretations of the societies beliefs, and what about all the emotionally abuse victims, and other people who might try take out their frustrations violently -
