i'm sure that most of the jw's think that there are too many meetings a week.. i'm sure that most of the jw's find that the end is coming later than expected and don't dare talk about this openly.. i'm sure that most of the jw's don't believe everything they are taught.. i'm sure we could add more and more to this list.. so, why is it that the majority of jw's are being led by a very few, and afraid to stand up to them on any topic..

I got that one, too, Kid-A. I thought I was the only one, I thought we had something, ya know?
*sniff* I feel so dirty! At least I found out before I sent off my $4.95 for perpetual-motion-machine plans!

i'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.
do any jw's actually browse here?
maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.
Hi Michael,
It's worth noting, I think, that the ex-JW's you've encountered so far on this site have encouraged you to look around, check it all out. The JW you're studying with -- who believes sincerely that they have your best interests at heart -- will DIScourage you from talking to anyone that doesn't believe the way the Watchtower does.
If you were buying a car, it would make sense to listen to those that once had the car and got rid of it. You wouldn't just talk to the salesman. If you found many people had quit working for a particular company, you would listen to them before taking a job there. Likewise, be sure to listen to what your JW friend is saying as well as what you read here. Get both sides. Then make your own logical conclusions.

how do you get over the jitters to talk in front of people??
i have a speech class and make my first one tomorrow.
i'm f'ing petrified, despite everything we've talked about in class.
So LSheep, how did it go?
Dave
this is the first time i've been on here in about a month, though trev has been posting some days, so i've been able to keep up with everyone's news.
thankyou all so much for the well wishes you keep sending me, they all mean so much.
apart from my other problems, i've had a really painful back injury for the last few weeks, which has made it impossible for me to sit comfortably at the pc.
Good to hear from you Linda. Positive thoughts to you and Trev!

"I believe that God has always existed" and "I believe that the macro-cosmic universe has always existed".
If I can predict an objection and answer it, the universe as we see it today appears to have had a beginning, but I think Alan is referring to the stuff of the universe that has taken this current form. The "stuff" that big bang'd into what we see today may not have had a beginning. To my knowledge, no scientist claims evidence that it did. (Or didn't)
Personally, I love the idea of the stuff of the universe exploding, contracting into a single point, and exploding again, forever. It's not a "belief", nor do I claim there's evidence for it, but it's a beautiful idea.

Thanks for the clarification on Einstein's words. My point was not that he was an atheist or wasn't, but simply that his "god/dice" quote was not a commentary on his beliefs and shouldn't be used to suggest it was. Perhaps you're only using the quote as a touchpoint, as a recognizable connection to Einstein's general "maybe there is, maybe there ain't" agnostic beliefs. If so, then it seems fair to me.
In any event, I hope you did check out the SeattleNiceGuy posts I tossed to you. I asked for your response, but I'd much rather you invested your time in reading, than in posting. I know it's not my call, do as you wish. But it's my hope.

i have been dating a very committed jw - he spent some time out of the organisation after a divorce and about a year ago has been granted a fellowship again.
i absolutely adore him - and what is there not to love!
he is the most kind, sweet and lovable man i have ever met.
>>he says he will always love me,now he says he can't see me any more
I'm sorry, but you have your answer right there. According to JW teachings, he should not be friends with you, let alone have a romantic relationship with you. There is constant pressure on JW's to separate themselves from all non-JW's. I'm very, very sorry about this, I can hear your intense feelings. But for your own happiness, you need to move on from this relationship.

>>As Einstein astutely stated, "God does not play dice with the universe". Though we cannot see God, we can see EVIDENCE that he does indeed exist.
It was an astute statement, but it had nothing to do with belief in god. As I stated earlier, he was responding to some peers and their feeling that the universe may have truly random elements, effects without causes. He was metaphorically saying that this isn't the case. He wasn't truly speaking of god here anymore than he was truly speaking of dice.
Either you disagree with my assessment of the context, you missed it earlier, or you are disingenuously misquoting Einstein to make it appear that he supports you. Or some fourth thing I don't know about. Can you tell me which it is?
Dave
i've got my issues like everybody else.
good days and bad days.
ups and downs.. but there is something i can't relate to and simply will never understand.. that is:.
