I remember asking an elder once why it's OK to eat lobster when it being cooked alive means it still has blood in it.
He said that there wasn't enough blood in a lobster to matter.
Needless to say he was a big seafood fan.
you know, the watchtower blood doctrine is really goofy.
in the 1970s, one of the reasons the society gave for refusal of blood, was that the soul is in the blood.
see leviticus.

so for our "congregation book study", we are still deeply mired in the bible teach book.
this week's lesson talks about the whole idea that the book of job relates the central issue of the entire cosmos, a vital issue raised by satan, where satan questions whether humans follow god because of what they are given, or because he deserves it.
i'm surprised that the book of job, obviously archetypal and figurative (for example, i doubt people back then literally spoke for hours in hebrew verse, and i doubt that four messengers showed up all in a row with stories telling that they, only they, got away to tell of a disaster) even has a place in the canon; aside from its lack of any specific historical position or accuracy, the argument it advances (especially as the society interprets it) is facile: the idea that privileged, wealthy, powerful job somehow stands as a representative for all humanity and serves as a litmus test for man's interaction with god is downright silly.
A funny thing about the Job story is that the winesses today are proving Satan right.
Satan made the statement that man would only worship God if they had something to gain from it. We'll that's how the Society get people to worship God. By dangling a the carrot of Paradise in front of them. I always heard "You better go to the meeting and get baptised so you can be in paradise".
How many people today serve God out of the goodness of their heart. Most do it to get to heaven.
So we are all just proving Satan right.
untitled document <!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana} --> in what ways do you still think or act like one of jehovah's witnesses?
last night, some co-workers invited me to watch monday night football at a .
local area bar.
When watching TV shows on the End Times and The End of the World or just see bad things on the news, I'll get a quick flash of "Will I die at Armageddon?"
Then I realize it's just my old JW habits coming out. Heck I don't even think there will be an Armageddon.
i remember once, we were in the field service, and my companion was talking to the householder.
the householder said, "we don't go to church anymore", thinking this would deceive us....lol.
so, my jw friend told him, hey that's great !!!
A funny thing happened to me when I was a little guy, around 5 years old. My mom had us kids and a friend out in FS and was at a door talking to a lady when all the while my brother and his friend were picking on this ladies pet monkey she had in the year. I was stand there like and idiot just watching when this monkey starts getting pretty mad and starts chasing my brother and friend. Well they pass me buy and the monkey grabs me and bites me on the butt. It didn't hurt but man did it scare me to death. My brother still gives me a hard time about that.
well there we were settling down to watch tv last evening.
we'd all had a hectic day and i'd started a stinker of a head cold!.
there was a loud knock at the door.
I can see both sides of the story. I would be mad as hell if someone that shunned me for year suddenly stopped by for help. On the other hand what your husband did is exactly what got me out of the borg. When I was sick and needed help and some kindness my "worldly" work associates were there to help me. Not my so called "brothers". That act really had a lasting impact on me. It opened my eye to let me see that my "brothers" could have cared less for me.
Your husband may have planted the seeds of doubt. We can only hope.
My sister-in-law looks exactly like Uma Thurmon. I've tried for years to get her to dress up for Halloween in that yellow biker uniform she wears in the movie. So far no luck.
it's been out a while and i know it's already been commented on here but i really enjoyed the village.
the creation of fear and the control that it allows must surely strike a chord.. recently i saw christian bale in the machinist.
bloody awesome!

i have been writing my story today, before i joined the forum, and my friends linda and trev have encouraged me to post it.
actually, i found it very therapeutic to write it al down.
i hope it doeasn't bore you too much, as it is rather long.
Welcome Marion!!!
My dad couldn't give up smoking either when they banned it. He was disfellowshipped and later died in 1978. My mom still holds out hope that he will be resurrected but still wonders since he was disfellowshipped when he died. I remember the brothers telling my mom afterward that Jehovah knows what was in his heart and he will resurrect him. Well then, why was he disfellowshipped in the first place if Jehovah thinks his heart condition is good enough to be ressurected?
It really makes me mad that they would give people 6 months to stop smoking and then not offer any help such as counciling. I'm totally against smoking, but it is a real addiction that people need help in quiting. You just can't tell people to stop or else we will kick you out of our club. Just goes to show you how out of touch they are with the real world.
BTW: I'm patiently waiting for your next installment. What a wonderful story.
my friend marion, who i've posted about on here, was announced at last nights meeting as being no longer one of jehovahs witnesses.
she sent a da letter in recently, and of course the elders tried to get her to change her mind, but she insisted, and threatened to forward a copy to the uk hq, so they made the announcement.. she had a phone call from her jw son just now, and not a pleasant one at that.
he asked her how she could be so stupid, and told her that this was the last call of any kind he would be making to her, and she won't be allowed to see her grandchildren again until she comes to her senses.
Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life.
This will be an exciting and scarry time for you. You will get to experience new thing and actually enjoy life.
I've been out for 10 years and still feel like a kid when Christmas time rolls around.
Gook luck with you journey.
last year i seriously thought of going to the summer district convention for a day or two just to listen to the information once again now that i've been out so long.
i thought it would be interesting to hear it "as an outsider" - but i just could not make myself go.
i found too many other things that i would much rather spend my time at during the summer months.. so i thought it would be fun to list a few of the things i have actually done now instead of going to assemblies, meetings, or field service:boating/water skiingfishingcampingstudy dance (i danced in my first public performance this past summer!
Moutain Biking on Sunday mornings
Karate on Thursday evenings
Tuesday evening is cheap night at the movie, so the wife and I go often.
Use my vacation time to go to the beach, mountain bike trips, visit family instead of attending assemblies.
