You must be very very proud! I dont think being raised a JW is necessarily a precursor to failure, for some it makes them stronger and more determined to succeed, plus some unusual life experience to make us unique and compelling compared to the next person. I tend to embrace my difference, whether thats a good thing or not.

this morning, someone mistakenly text my cell phone asking that i send them some money.
the text was addressed to "paul".
my wife read the text, and jokingly asked me if i was "pretending to be paul".. i answered her, "paul?
Stealth what you have just described is a recognised psychological behavioural theory that we in fact all pretend or as someone said above "act" our roles and how convincing we are at those roles is the measure of our success. So dont feel bad about it or weird you have just gleaned something from the universes collective consciousness. I've been studying it for my degree recently - I think the theory was developed by someone called Erving Gossman back in the fifties in a book called The Presentation of Self. Its where we construct our identities by behaving like a recognised set of social rules that conform to that aspect of our character - whether it be father, teacher, brother, friend. We even adopt symobls and signals in forms of dress to match the role we have adopted.
By the way can I add I think from my point of view your portrayal in the role of friend is very convincing. You'll know what I mean.

my mum showed me this e-mail her jw friend had sent her last week.. in it the friend explained how wonderful the magazines are and how they provide food at the proper time because they had recently had an article in about ' being prepared for the unexpected'.
the article had told them to have a bag packed with emergency stuff in case they ever needed to leave the house in a hurry.
so they were told to pack dried food, a wallet with important documents in, waterproof clothing etc.. now this, it seems, was pretty relevant because i live in gloucester where were had terrible floods a few weeks ago, and some peoples houses were flooded out, the entire city had its water cut off for a fortnight because the pumping station flooded, and most work places were unable to allow staff in because they were not able to provide flushing toilets or running water.. so my mims friend was totally blown away by how jehovah is so clever - although having dried food and your passport in a waterproof wallet did nothing to help you flush the toilet for a fortnight.. but - now heres to point of this long and rambling story - i suddenly got super angry about this article and its survivialist mentalilty.
Its funny how these things can come upon us at the least expected moments. I think it was good that you cried and your response to your mother's ludicrousness was spot on. Why was it alright for you to be put through mental toture of horror stories about the future and its not alright for Chloe to know about it?

my dub mother sent me a package today, inside was a nwt bible, a picture of me around age 5 at an assembly - i looked miserable and my dad was holding a battery operated fan in front of me, and a letter, here is the letter.
i ask that you remember that i was 18 when i left and i'm now 42, that there is a total of 8 children in my family and there are only 2 that are still jw's, oh and that my mother is a complete nutcase!

For what it is worth you are awefull, awe-inspiring for your strength - leaving at 18 to make a life with your newborn alone and continuing on to become a lovely and kind adult with humour and compassion.
