  Pink Floyd concert

  david gilmour did a fantastic job on "echos" according to my husband.

  I agree Prophecor,

  I went to an imitation Pink Floyd in Minneapolis last year (Australian Pink Floyd? or something like that.) It was actually awesome, very moving, (despite no fatties there, either.) I think they did a lot of work to make it "just like the original" complete with the backup singers, film show, balloon, and everything. I hate to say, but I liked a lot of that concert better than the David Gilmour.

  Except the lights at David Gilmour. they were just really awesome. Plus his guitar playing was louder and somehow right on key (no I'm not a music person at all, but it somehow lulled me into a trance (ie: I fell asleep.) (again, contact high?)

  I'm meeting with the elders today, oh yay!!!!!!!!!!!

  as many of you know i will be meeting with the elders from my hall today.

  i had decided to come clean and just tell them that i don't believe in this anymore.

  however tonight i talked to one of my friends who is still a witness and i realized that there are a lot of people who would be very hurt if i got dfed, so i have made the choice to go into that meeting today and lie my ass off.

  i am not a jw.

  i have never been a jw.

  i tripped over this forum whilst participating in a little harmless internet forum raiding.. i am a 48 year old man with a wealth of life experience who married a much younger woman who had been raised in a formerly devout but now mostly non-meeting attending jw family.. i have a couple of tertiary degrees in engineering and some undergraduate credits in psychology.

  Welcome. Sometimes, it's hard to erase all the principles by which we were raised. So unfortunately, some of that crap just sticks with us.

  Hey, I'm so glad you are feeling "free." That's the best part. Nothing to lose now. You don't have to be afraid. Your mom will find a way to deal with this. Reassure her of your love, and talk about neutral topics.

  You'll move on, and yes, this is a defining moment of your life, but not THE defining moment. You didn't do anything wrong. You're just inevitably moving away from a cult that you were unfortunately raised in.

  In my opinion, I wouldn't even show up for the meeting. That's a game they play. Just don't recognize their authority anymore. It's just silly. Awesome that you have a lawyer on your side. (Well, I guess you do want to disassociate rather than disfellowship, for your mom's sake. So do whatever is right for you.)

  i hope i don't go too long with this.... last night my wife and i were talking about her day in service.

  we talked about several things of little consequence and then i made mention of a point out of the reasoning book to underscore the importance of our need to be well versed in the facts that support our beliefs.

  said point is on 416 of the rs book.

  Rasillion, Excellent guts you have, for even trying to help your wife out of that cult. I've never even tried it with my Mom or sister, but then again, I don't live with them.

  TD: those are awesome points! I never saw those before, and they DEFINATELY would have got me thinking, especially after I already started having doubts.

  Ringo5: that is an awesome quote.

  One more thing: I remember the first comment (actually by one of my middle school teachers about Greek mythology) that got me thinking and doubting. But it was about 2 years after that before I would let myself really think through the doubts, and 4 years after THAT that I decided it was not "the truth".

  Wanted to let you know how the concert went. David Gilmour did a fantastic job on "Echos" according to my husband. He also played the crowd-pleasing "Wish You Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb". But, I do have a slight complaint. I know people always play new stuff at concerts to sell their new CD, but he played new stuff about 60% of the concert. It was a little annoying after a while.

  And, I will be very honest here, I did fall asleep a few times during that first half when he was playing his new stuff. Maybe it was the Margaritas...

  But I woke up for the good stuff.

  You're making progress in seeing it from an outsider's view. That's huge, I think. And it is sad, to see who you used to be, and to regret that. To see what a waste it was, how silly and meaningless it was.

  i just talked with my non-jw female friend (grown-up) who had gotten an invitation to the "deceptive memorial".

  i have tried to educate her on jw doctrine.
