i have a question as to who the wtbts teaches is the faithful and discreet slave.
i am not a jw, never have been.
my husband though is reading a lot of their books and such.
can't you just promise to give him blow jobs every week if he quits his "studying" and then go back to being happy and celebrating christmas?
If that doesn't work, how about finding a religion that you find compatible for BOTH of you as a family and ask him to join you in a non-denominational church.
Good luck, my husband has no affiliations with JW's and I told him right up front, if he ever considered it, plan on losing half of everything because i would divorce him. LOL.
my opinion is that jw's are into corporal punishment more than the general population.

I remember having to go to the bathroom during the meetings and being told if I didn't really have to pee, I would get a spanking... that my mom wasn't going to get up for nothing. Sure enough, we'd get up and I'd get so nervous about getting a spanking, I'd freeze up, couldn't pee and then I would get wailed on. I remember not being the only kid always getting spanked or hit in the KH bathroom or being drug outside "so as not to disturb the meetings" It was always so weird how they expected small children to sit for 2 hours of boring talks. Seriously, I can't sit through 2 hours now as an adult!

I remember touring the Stanley Theatre back in my teens.... and watching the twinklie star lights on the ceiling... I loved it. It was defnitely the prettiest JW place I had been, of course that was because it wasn't originally theirs.
jw kids are repressed in every aspect of their lives, creatively, intellectually, atheletically...the list goes on.. what did you love to do as a kid, yet weren't permitted to do?.
i personally loved football as a kid.
other jw kids and i would play every weekend until the subject was brought up at an assembly as being competitive.
I was only in school from 2nd - 5th grade at which time I was yanked out of school and home schooled. Which involved basically me fending for myself in academics and being given "bible reading assignments" to prepare me for my future as a missionary or Bethalite. I was never allowed to read books, go to the library, we didn't have a TV for years - when we got one I was only allowed to watch the news or news related shows like 20/20.
I missed out on lots of friendships with peers, and started pioneering at 11 yoa. I was the kid with the older sisters driving around witnessing all d*mn day instead of being in school learning about history, math, and science.
But I got my GED when I was all grown up and started taking college classes and that opened up a WHOLE NEW WORLD FOR ME!!!!
So, I think the biggest thing I missed out on was just basic knowledge and having interactions with peers.

with the go ahead from the city, it looks like the society will be building more real estate.. but even with free labor, these projects still need capital investment.
they recently spent $50,000,000 on new man presses for several branches around the world.. they spend on average, about $79,000,000 a year on missionaries and other full time servants.. paper, ink and food cost money.. utilitiy bills cost money, especially in new york city.. computers cost money and so do telecommunications services.. even though they may have earned $1 billion for 2001, there surely can't be that much left over, even after slave labor is taken into consideration.. any thoughts on this?
I hope they over-extend themselves... I hope everyone quits their building projects before they are completed.
But - sad to admit this, most people who are in the religion really feel like they NEED it, that being said they tend to donate and get more active when the need is greatest because they feel like they will be rewarded more or God will favor them more... I don't understand it.
We'll see though.

as most of you know, i grew up without half my family, thanks to my jw father.

I just finally reconciled with my father after 30 years. My JW mother moved me far away and did not allow me to have contact, of course she reported how he was a raving drunk, abusive, etc.... but then he came for a visit and turned out he only drank socially, was very polite, works hard, saves money, treated me and my husband very nicely and I enjoyed his company. He remembers it all so differently, he says my mother left him, once she converted to JW because she wanted to marry a JW brother. There were no other people who remembered him being an alcoholic or abusive.

I thought that the Bible taught us that Adam and Eve were given FREE WILL. Evidently, that shouldn't have happened... no more free will for you! We will dictate what you eat, sleep, drink, think, say, and everything else in between.
What's the point of being given life and free will, if you aren't free to exercise it?

I loved how women had to dress "appropriately" because if they didn't and had skirts that were above the knee, a man could become so sexually aroused that he would want to commit fornication and that he wouldn't be able to stop himself... that is why we all had to be MODEST!
my situation is getting worse, i told my parents im going to move out in 6 months once i turn 18 whether i get to go to college or enlist into the navy.
my over zealous mom says that i can move out tomorrow.
now i have lots of friends at school, ive only hung out with few not that long but ive known em forever, should i burden them with me asking to move in with them?
If you don't have a plan and money saved, it will be extremely hard. I say stick it out until you can get some money or a plan together.
Even if you move in with a friend, who is going to pay for your food, your gas, your clothing, your laundry? Who buys your toothpaste, deoderant, etc. You have to make a plan, or get some sort of part time job to get you there.
The day I moved out was the best day of my life, but I was 19 and had a job and I moved in with a friend for 2 weeks until I got myself situated.
You need a plan. You have 6 months to get that plan in order. Sending you all sorts of good luck!!!
a few years back a 'sister' in our hall was df'd for marrying a disfellowshipped man.
they were both free to remarry 'scripturally' - in their late-middle years of life.
i asked one of the local pharrasies why?
I remember my friends who were both pretty good JWs were engaged to be married and had all the wedding plans and were 4 weeks away and the worst thing happened... he fingered her. Then they both were publicly reproved and the elders refused to let them get married in the KH, so they had to rent out a facility.
You know how weddings are usually crowded and attaended by EVERYONE... well, turns out they only had about 50 people there, and didn't get the outpouring of presents either. It was sooo pathetic.
But they are currently regular pioneers serving where the "need is great" somewhere... last I heard he cleaned the floors for Winn Dixie at night to support their pioneering.
