HELP!!- JT asked to become a MASON!
by JT ini have been searching the net for some excellent sites on the masons.
this past weekend we went down to nc for a wedding and my wife and i broke the news to our nonjw family that we were no longer involved with jw.
i could not believe the open arm welcome my uncle and aunt were almost in tears- they told us we have seen you come home each yr from the main office in ny and then you got married and you would come home and we wanted to say something about the jw but you seemed to be so well respected by the local jw - whenever we would tell folks that our newphew was up in ny- the jw would get all excited- they told us they thought it was so sad for i only made $90 a month.

JT! You are soooo funny! I love it. My husband always says he's joining the Masons because that's where all the $$$ is and plus he'll get to find out all the secrets. Just think: you are in a position now, with your knowledge and background to infiltrate and fill us curious ones in on the scoop. From a true-blue Mason too. No hearsay, etc. I say go for it dude!

Kent, I really appreciate your bringing these articles here for all to see. We might never hear of these events otherwise. As for style, we all have different styles. Who cares? When I first went on Freeminds I was offended by the little guy running in a box and it said that's what a JW's life is. Then as my eyes began to see, I realized how true that little picture was.
I think if someone is easily offended, they should learn to toughen up. Life is not a bunch of warm fuzzies.

Kent's Tabloid Journalism = lies??
by Kismet inkent has recently undertaken posting more and more 'headlines' fashioned much like those found in tabloid rags such as the national inquirer.
such headlines skirt the issue but rarely are an accurate representation of the real story.. case in point a headlines such as:.
never marry a jw!

"These were non-voting shares...read ...no business influence. The Society also has no rights to sell these shares."
Do you not know that the Society tells brothers that they cannot do work on churches of Christendom for monetary compensation even if they are employees of a non-jw contractor?
The Society could follow their own dogma and "turn down" the gift of these shares the same way they expect men/women to turn down jobs which would provide compensation and food on the table for their families.
We could hold our breath and wait for the Society to stop being hypocrites. But should we? Not!

Watchtower in Review. HYPOCRITES
by biblexaminer ini have not made a watchtower in review for a while, and certainly not yet, here on jw.com.
hypocrites.. it only gets better, as paragraph 3, under the subheading "belief versus truth" begins with the statement "of course, it does not take deliberate lies to develop mistaken beliefs", but as the watchtower knows all to well, it helps.
"well, it is true that religious leaders who claim to follow the bible have produced many confusing and conflicting ideas.

More New Light?
by individuals wife ininteresting comment made in the chat room yesterday.... it was noted that during a talk by a bethelite at a recent dc he made the following point - the reason we are not on the other side of armageddon is that we (jws) do not and have not listened to authority.. now it has to wait like the disobedient israelites had to.. until the next generation.
now, i would presume this is some more of this 'new light' because i'd never heard this thought before... has anyone else heard it?.
can anyone elaborate further.... i wasn't there myself.... interesting implications though, the disobedient israelite generation did not get into the promised land did they?

This shouldn't come as a surprize! It's basically what they said to the last generation -- you know the one that was told that the "indisputable facts" proved that armageddon was coming IN 1914. The WTS doesn't care that it's a "revolving door." As long as they have fresh new meat to exploit, they're happy.

Change in WTS doctrine under way!
by biblexaminer ina "significant re-adjustment" in watchtower dicta is in the works.
is it important?
if you do want to know, then take the time to read the following information, for doctrine is the motivation behind everything that is "watchtower", and recent happenings within watchtower-world shed light on the future course of the great ship watchtower.. [hr].

I think that if they give this new light is only delivered via the platform, the witnesses will discard it. I can hear the die-hards saying, "Unless I see it in print..." I can even remember back when the change of the sheep and the goats came. I told my then fiance, "See, I always said we were NOT doing the separating work." Then his die-hard family jumped all over me and said I was not understanding it properly and that we were doing the separating work, etc. etc. Even in print and it took them at least two years before they finally accepted it. One talk by a circuit overseer isn't going to convince anybody.
Most people sleep or daydream through talks - even those by CO's. It'll go over most of their heads and they wont know what hit them. Especially if it takes months or years before it goes into print. Besides that, the boys in Brooklyn probably want to see what the reaction will be. That way if it's too negative, they can say those CO's were speaking on their own initiative.

Should you write to the society?
by sleepy inwhen someone comes across something in the "truth" that disterbs them should they write to the society or is this pointless?.
i think they should write for several reasons.. 1.you must give them at least a chance to present their side of the story.it is no good just relying for others for your information you can not be shure what the society really belive until you hear it from them yourself.. wasn't just relying on the judgement of others part of what got you in in the first place.. its good for us to try and advance in our way of thinking during life and part of this involves doing our own research which is not complete until we go to the source of our conflict.. also if you bring up the point with someone it gives more weight to your argument if mention you wrote to the society and this was their answer.. 2. the more poeple that write in with the same points the more difficult it will be for them to hold to an erroneous stand.. the more different people that write the more ways of expresing the point will be heared different ways will make sence to different people.. remember its not just the same person answering all letters but different people who will have to do research an answer your point, which could make them think.. (this assumes that the society is genuinely mistaken and not corupt, although it could be a bit of both).
of cource if you do not want hassle off your elders dont tell the society you are a brother/sister or just give a different name ,prehaps you could give the address of your place of work or somewhere else if you don't want to be traced easily.. in my case i just made it sound like i was an intrested person.. or you could make out that you need some help in presenting the societies case to an intrested person who has quetions.

About a year ago I wrote a six page letter to the society putting them on the line for inserting Jehovah in the NT and for their lies about how we got the bible. I pretended to be my mom and used her address. They responded and we corresponded for six months having a total of 6 or 7 letters, each one of theirs was written by a different person. The bottom line was that they COULD NOT answer to any of the charges. They went around in circles and basically said, "It's the truth because we believe it."
At first I thought it had been a waste of time but when I talked to the elders - some from my sister's hall. (I told them I didn't care for the elders at my hall so they agreed to talk to me.) They knew the society hadn't adequately answered my questions. Then little by little I began to see articles in the magazines addressing the issues I had brought up - one of them was the Luciaris article and another was the recent article on the Church Fathers. (A major point I had made was that the teachings of JW's is NOTHING LIKE the teachings of the early Christians and I had challenged them to prove that the early Christians believed some of their teachings.) I included quotes from the Early Fathers to show what the early Christians believed and how THEY interpreted the scriptures. I also gave them proof that the Catholic Church was responsible for deciding which books belong in the Bible to begin with.
Anyways, their letters were long and they always included articles against the Catholic Church but they certainly DID NOT answer any questions. It was all circular reasoning and it was obvious that they KNEW IT. To this day my sister hasn't read the letters because she is afraid to. But I have a powerful weapon in my hand to show her when she's ready. They absolutely have NO ANSWERS. She must already know it deep down because otherwise she would be willing to read the letters.
I don't think it was a waste of time.

Watchtower Stock Gamblers?
by ros init was recently pointed out in another thread, the business mode of certain organizations to persuade people who have accrued a substantial estate to turn their holdings over to the organization in return for which the organization agrees to support them with a certain agreed income for the remainder of their life.
the advantage for the organization comes with investing the money in stock or bond funds for an anticipated higher return than they expect to pay to the invester/doner, as well as getting the whole thing after the investor dies without any inheritance penalty.
(is this a fair statement of the issue?).

Sam, I don't think the question is, "Is investing in the stock market wrong?" I think the relevant question is, "Why is gambling a disfellowshipping offense?"
You're right, there are all sorts of gambling, even getting in one's car. So why make it a disfellowshipping offence when someone engages in it for money? When you get in your car to go to work, you're doing it for money, aren't you?
I believe it is also morally wrong for the Watchtower to swindle people's inheritance. That really shows GREED. It was one of the things that made me go "hmmmmm" way back when. Everyone in the car groups was discussing how old sister so-and-so gave the society her money and how her unbelieving children (devil's spawn) were upset that she had given away their inheritance. No one seemed to even consider how wrong that was and how utterly greedy!
