  society cutting costs?!

  i was wondering if you noticed the society cutting costs.. for example : the books are now printed on cheaper paper and have a soft cover.

  also subscriptions are no longer mailed by post but will be brought to you by publishers (cutting cost and upping field service!

  to flies in one!).

  It seems the U.S is just being brought in line with Europe. I can't remember how many years since we stopped having subs by mail in the U.K.
  This is an ongoing programme of "Simplification" which I think goes back to the last recession in the 80's. - includes cheapo paperback books , no food or drink at the assembies. "Make 'em carry their own flasks".
  Cut backs all round not helped by the reduction in revenue since the dubs have to contribute on an honesty basis for the literature.

  At my last cong. I was secretary and checked the figs. regularly. The contributions to the Worldwide Work Fund were significantly down on the previous remittances for lit. That was despite my "motivating" talks on the subject!!

  i had a little secret rebelion i kept up all the way through my jw time!

  i refused to learn the books of the bible or to remember scriptures!!!

  even when i was a genuine, super-zelous ms!!.

  the floor of a traditional stock exchange seems to be a chaotic marketplace.

  mysterious (to an outsider) hand signals are employed, coded messages on electronic tickers appear and change at a frantic pace, and floor brokers compete to be heard above the flurry of activity.. today, however, many people once bewildered by the stock market are investing in stocks.

  for one thing, the internet has enabled investors to access in moments financial news, investment advice, and stockbrokers.

  Reminds me of a judicial commitee that once sat on

  the miscreant had been reported for gambling. We went through it all , scriptures about the "God of good luck", the priciple of winning others losses etc. It became clear during the meeting that he had only given to a charity and been given a lucky number scratchcard. If the P Overseer had told me that in advance I would not have wanted to take it so seriously. Anyway he said sorry and we let him off with reproof.

  i've always blamed my father for lots of stuff.

  i think he's a victim too though.

  he is a victim of his fears.. watchtower played on our fears of taking risks in life.

  Somebody once said
  "We have nothing to fear, except fear itself".. very true because fear is the immobilizing emotion that robs us of joy in life and prevents us reaching out for greater things
  If we practised "J W life" because of fear of Armageddon, the elders,peer pressure or whatever then it was never valid for us.
  I am sure that many continue because they are afraid to think the unthinkable and face up to the realisation that they may have been wrong. It takes courage to admit a thing like that - much easier to go along in the same old routine.

  happy ones are those who never challenge anything, are happy to have all their decisions made for them and and just jog along with it ..like the Beatles "Nowhere Man"

  Allow me to add my words of welcome. I suppose we all started off lurking on the site , and that makes it worth answering any relevant question posed, even if the thread seems irrelevent...you never know who might read it.

  I note what you say

  Quite so, the more you find out ,the less likely it becomes. The phrase "Spirit directed" allows for human error while still requiring total obedience.

  (neurons) can grow in old mice - and apparently function as part.

  of the brain.. even old mice/people can have working stem cells in the body.. if science can slow down or stop the aging process (i would say.

  There is a hell of a lot more to faith in God than the advances made by science and their forcasts. Even if human life is extended, nice but what difference does it really make? It is the quality of such life that matters and a good religion will only improve it.

  As research discovers more and more about our natural world it strenghthens my faith in a creator

  I do not know what science will be able to do for us in my lifetime, but nothing has changed my appreciation for the gift of life from our God

  Last night's meeting

  my son had a talk last night, so i had the priviledge of trudging off to another meeting.

  the bible section being considered at the present time is isaiah 19-26. much to my surprize, i learned that the society is prefigured in at least two places in these few chapters.

  they consider themselves the "watchman" class, as well as the "eliakim" class, with the poor old clergy of christendom relegated to the mere "shebna" class.. this correspondance of the society to virtually everything in the bible is getting sickening already.
