  Islamic Sharia law, Gods law or just barbaric law

  i beleive with muslims voicing their opinions so openly its time for the average joe out there to be informed about sharia law.

  the law they beleive has come from allah and is the most superiour law on the face of the earth today.this issue.

  Thanks for pointing out the schizophrenic nature of sharia law DM.

  Many folks, especially Muslims, don't realize just how little sharia law has to do with the Koran. Much, if not most, of it is based on Arab and/or local tribal custom than the, supposed, directions from God. I guess the Muslims have that much in common with most of Christendom. Not that I think Islam has anything to do with God to begin with, I don't. But it just goes to show that men from just about all religions subvert whatever their Gods' views are with their own thinking and desires.

  Interesting blog from an NICU nurse on JW patients and blood.

  I have an NICU nurse as a close friend.

  One time after reading some speculation here about the number of Witnesses who take blood transfusions if they are assured that it will be kept secret by the staff I asked the nurse point-blank about it. The nurse told me that it is not at all uncommon for Witnesses to do so in their hospital. The nurse said that they will generally feel the patient out about it if they can (understandingly it is not always possible, especially in a neuro unit) and assure them that if they decide they accept one it can be done confidentially in the strictest confidentiality. And if they do consent, those nurses see to it that their word is kept. The nurse said that the 25% number which was mentioned in the thread on the subject is low, if anything.

  Then I warned the nurse to watch out for those new DPAs which authorize the liaison committees to access patient's records. I didn't think to ask about percentages involving families secretly permitting transfusions to minors.

  I went while still in. As somebody else observed, "sometimes you have to buck the trend." I earned an AA and a BS. I've been accepted to an MS program but the financing is problematic at the moment.

  Baptized in 1974.

  I haven't officially made the break though I've not gone to the meetings since about 2003-2004, so thirty to thirty-two years depending on how you want to count it. That's about twenty years shy of the most which is reported so far, but still a long time.

  for those of you don't know our story sweet pea and i stopped attending all meetings quite abruptly about 4 months ago.

  since then we have had a few ill-advised conversations with jw friends and family stating our reasons - sometimes in emails.

  also sp emailed a new friend on another forum her experiene with going to a new church.

  I think the best characterization of those JCs is that they are nothing more than star chambers. I think you Britts learn about those learn about those nasty little beasts as a matter of course because they are a part of your history over there. If you do, then that comparison will really drive home the point you were trying to make.

  My Brother Died in a Car Wreck Last Night

  i just found out about an hour ago.

  he wasn't even old enough to drink yet.. to make it even sh*ttier, he had called me a few weeks ago and asked if he could come out here with me but i couldn't do it at the time.

  so of course the first thing that comes to mind is if i had done something different it wouldn't have happened.. he was going through the sh*t as i call it, when witnesses go off the deep end and get into everything in the world to stop hurting and they don't even know what is wrong.

  Sorry to hear that dude!

  i know that has to hurt big time! And to have to put up with the witnoid crap on top of that. That has to suck!

  Look here dude, you might not like what I write next, but think on it a bit. You want to make things a little easier for yourself, remeber that your dad is hurting big time. We live our lives thinking that We'll never live to see our sons in the grave, and then, SLAMMMMM, it happens! It is just not natural! So your dad is hurting big time young man. He is going to do the only thing he knows to do to cope. He'll try to convert you. Realize that he thinks that if you die outside of the organization's good graces, you'll be dead for eternity. So he is both trying to comfort himself and save you at the same time. Really, dude, we often dont' think beyond our own feelings at a time like that.

  So the best way to handle dad is to be polite and respectful. Respectfully listen to him, but make no commitments. Keep you goatee, but make sure it is neatly trimmed and you are neatly dressed. Not even the JWs can legitimately gripe if you are and it is just good funeral etiquette anyway. You show your love for your departed brother on both counts (what you believe he'd want you to do, and respect for the occasion). I know the recruitment pitches will grate on your nerves, but my advice will save you alot of hurt and tension until this passes.

  Can a staunch Democrat be good friends with a staunch Republican?

  for those with strong political views, is it impossible to be really good friends with someone on the other side?

  my very best friends either tend to think like me on the political continuum or have no care whatsoever for politics.

  those with exceptionally strong leaning toward the other party tend to get mean and nasty in political discussions which invariably deteriorate hopes for a deeper friendship.. what has been your experience?.

  I submit that Hannity and Colmes are a prominent example that yes they can. It is partly a matter of agreeing to disagree and never attacking the person, as some folks on both sides of politics are so willing to do.

  A bitter experience with my JW sister

  hi, this is very long, sorry, but i need to talk to someone about how i feel.. i'm not a jw although for a short time i studied with them back in 1984 along with my younger sister.

  my sister became a jw in 1984 and about that very same time i accepted jesus christ as my savior, but did not become a jw as i disagreed with some of their teachings.

  i did and still do attend the church of god.she has four children.

  Welcome to the forum Dawn.

  I know that what your sister did hurts, but if it makes you feel any better, I had that done to me by my JW sister while I was still in good standing and with no real evidence to back up her charges. It ended up costing me my home. But that is a story I'd rather keep the details to myself for now.

  I find your comment that your sister considered your son's sticking up for gun ownership rights to be somehow antisocial kind of puzzling. Since I do not see a location, state or country, on your public profile ill just assume you may live in an area where the prevailing view might just be that way. just know that not all witnesses would agree with that.

  I don't know what to say about how to handle the situation. I agree that it does sound like she has made a break with you. It is what the organization would tell her to do whether you were a fellow Witness or not. Please realize that the Witness organization discourages people from having personal bonds so deep that they can't be severed at the drop of a hat at the directions of the religion. Any relationship with a Witness, including marriage, is conditional. And one can find themselves suddenly left standing there with nothing by a Witness and wondering what happened. I know her unappreciative attitude really hurts, but that is the way it is when dealing with Witnesses.

  All you can do is keep on loving her as your sister and be there for her if she ever comes to her senses and wants out of the bOrg. I wish you the best.

  Interesting you recognize communism is a religion minimus.

  I see no reason why it should really matter to me as long as they try to harm me or others. Beyond that, they are welcome to their belief or lack thereof.

  When conservative religious fundamentalists take over, we see how laws can be affected.
