Lewis Grizzard was a very popular writer/columnist in my part of the country. His humor was rather down-home with a southern flare. As I recall, one of his classics was a book titled something like "They tore my heart and stomped that sucker flat" which was themed on his experience with a heart bypass. That ought to give you an idea of he how was.

Forscher is German. My dictionary defines it as "investigator, explorer." Enough said. :-)

<div>Lewis Grizzard died in 1994. The column was apparently run as a tribute to him. Although I'd be willing to bet that the editor had just had a run-in with some JWs.</div>

The Watchtower Makes Up New Rules As They Go Along
by minimus inone thing you can say about the leaders of the watchtower----they simply do as they please.
whenever they want to make up a new rule to impose upon the helpless "sheep", they simply tell you this is how it is from now on.
for example you could've been a witness and at the same time been a smoker, but in the early 70's, "new light" said that those who smoked actually were involved with the demons!

To put it simply, Jehovah's Witnesses are what you get when a LAWYER takes over a religion, as Rutherford did!

2 Timothy 3: 16 Is the Bible really inspired?
by Bryan intimothy stated that "all scripture is inspired by god and useful for teaching, ... .
" (klnt), but the bible was assembled much later than his writing.
so can each book which has been placed in the bible, without doubt, be inspired by god?

I don't buy the reasoning that places the authoring of many Biblical books much later. By "scriptures" Paul was more than likely talking about the books that were accepted by the Jews and Christians of his day. That would've been the books attributed to Moses and certainly the ones mentioned by Jesus during his ministry. As for Matthew, the Gospel that was around when Paul was alive (it appears that two other Gospels were authored during his ministry by close aguaintances of his Luke, and Mark, and John clearly wrote his much later), there is no indication that it was considered scripture by paul in any of his letters.

Tertiary education
by Spanners inhi, my sister is a jw and last year was her final year of secondary school (17/18 years old over here), she received the prize for best student overall in the whole school.
she's always wanted to go to university and become a lawyer and now since becoming a jw has changed her mind and is working in a restaurant clearing tables.
which is a bit of a joke, because she'll end up stuck in that job for the next 30 years.. she doesnt want to go to university because "armageddon is coming soon so theres no point".

You are going to find it tougher to convince her in view of what some have reported about the anti-higher education emphasis at the distict conventions this year. You might want to mention to her that there are alot of folks out there who thought the same way she does in the early 1970s who regret not going to college. These days a college education might not make one rich, but it is increasingly becoming a prerequisite to being able to support oneself at all.
As was mentioned, the WTBTS does pay for some dubs to go through college and then law school, so it can't be all that bad. -

Whats the deal with fading.
by mtbatoon ini'm not trolling here or trying to upset, i'm not attacking anyone personally or trying to force my opinion on others but having read a lot of people experiences on leaving the org i really can not understand the point of fading.
i understand that people risk losing contact with family members and friends but really what type of friend and how good a family member are they if they are willing to shun you for not holding the same beliefs?.
a bit of background might be in order here.

My wife and I are faded simply because she still wants contact with her parents. I respect that and don't rock the boat. The other side of the coin is simple. There is one person here who always talks about not validating the organization's power over anybody. I like his perspective on that. To formally DA myself would be to validate that they have authority over me. I've decided that I am not going to do that. So, I don't go to the meetings anymore and I ignore any attempts to contact me.

Will the Real "Great Crowd" Please Stand Up!!!
by rockhound inin doing some research on the "great crowd" or "great multitude", i found some interesting watchtower articles that brought to the fore a very thought provoking question for all jehovahs witneses.
please follow the paper trail.. the watchtower of may 15,1995,p.20
18 in 1935 a bright flash of light revealed that the great crowd mentioned at revelation 7:9-17 was not a secondary heavenly class.

It just goes to show how they are "like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and blown about." (James 1:6) Since they lost their inspired oracle (Fred Franz), they just don't know what they're about.

Funny, my wife and I may very well face the same thing since her parents are up there in age. For me personally, I have no problem walking into that hall and sitting right up front. I hold the power over my own life, not them! So, I'll respect my inlaw's wishes in the matter. To me, it's such a little thing.
