I was watching Pres Bush in a speech telling the world that he is 'compelled' and 'driven by a higher power'. That God wants him to give people around the world freedom. That 'this crusade', the USA is on.............well...that was part of it and I sat there thinking. Bush is in the middle east - where he really has no friends - an Islamic country - was using the word Crusade and God really a wise choice of words? My first thought was OMG - what a fool. I've been waiting for the news to start rolling with it here but it's been pretty quiet - however - I did see that the Islamic news started posting 'Bush in Crusade against Islam' on their websites - this according to the one of the bottom tickets on CNN or MSNBC or one of those news shows. sammieswife

HAS ANYONE BEEN FOLLOWING THE NEWS ABOUT THE RUSSIAN SPY?
by juni inrussian spy defected and was poisoned w/something radioactive.
he has died after 2 weeks of horror.
he had been gathering information about the russian government and was meeting w/an italian professor.

I'm following it too - who would want him dead in such a public way and why? My first reaction was payback for something - so far 8 people have tested positive for traces of the poison. A TV interview with some expert, said that the poison could be adminstered up to 30 days before and quite possibly in a cup of tea or something. Symptoms take about 2 weeks to manifest and the person gets a cough, stomach upset and so on - much like maybe a flu..then rather quickly the hair starts to fall out. Apparently that is when this spy got worried but my understanding is that by that time, the damage has been done internally.
At first when I heard it, the expert on originally, said that a person would have to be physically in contact with the stuff in order to be infected from another person - by sweat or saliva for example. Thats scary stuff - sammieswife.

I put my dear old dog to sleep
by Jez inafter 2 months of old age and illness, 2 cancelled vet appts, hoping he would get better, tears, frustration, watching him not eat, throwing up, becoming skin and bones, justifying keeping him, i stuck to this morning's appointment.. he was with me for the last 12 years of my life and his life has been entwined in so many of the memories i have.. to tell you about him, would be an essay.
i just want everyone to know that he was so close to me.
in the end, i kissed him on his head, said, "good boy, you're a good boy" and he laid his head on my hands and went to sleep.. i love you and will miss your crazy dog ways.

So sorry Jez...it's so hard to do. I'm glad you were there with him...I still miss mine and she's been gone for 2 years now. There are times though when I close my eyes, that I swear I can feel her sitting beside me - she was my beauty. Hugs...sammieswife.

Blood fractions insert covered in tonight's service meeting
by becca1 infor those still "in", how did this part go over in your congregation?
we actually had a brother raise his hand and comment that he could not explain to a doctor why we allow fractions and obey the command of levitucus to pour blood out on the ground.
i wonder how many others felt the same but did not have the never to comment openly?

Many times the WTS just lets an old doctrine die out with one generation (smile) rather than make a big deal about it. They will even imply that the new way was really the old way all along and that individual JWs just misunderstood
Kind of like the governing body - wasn't one until the 70's but you're supposed to believe there has always been one......sammieswife

JW's and John 5:23
by UnDisfellowshipped inhas anyone on this board ever used john 5:23 when talking to jw's?.
unfortunately, one of my friends is currently in a "bible" study with the jw's (and has been since last year).
i asked my friend to ask the jw what john 5:23 means, so my friend did ask the jw who was conducting the "bible" study.

The bible also says to honor your father and your mother........so, should we worship them as we do god?
Couldn't let this one pass Gumby! We all know that once you are a JW - the WTS always trumps any blood relationship so the honor you bestow on your father and mother as quoted in the bible, must be referring to the society as being both your mother and father. Let's face it - once a blood father or mother is disfellowshipped they are dead and buried so that flies in the face of honor - if your father and mother are non believers well - there goes that honor and in the end, if the WTS told you to cast off your JW parents for any reason, you'd do so in the blink of an eye. Sorry - that just caught my eye as I was meandering through ....sammieswife.

The "R" word has thankfully been out of order for a long time here in the UK
Having worked in the 'social services' sector in Canada, the word was eliminated a very long time ago from our agencies. sammieswife.

Hubby says 4 - she took it with no problem, money is money. I would have said 2 - it's your conscience but if you keep it, it takes the guilt off her when she spends it. sammieswife.

I bought a 2 foot ceramic pig last year...I can't have any pets so I think it was a withdrawl thing...just the other day I couldn't resist one of those 4 foot (or so) fuzzy bears holding the 'welcome' signs that are everywhere in the shops right now. He's wearing a winter stocking cap and scarp - think I'll leave him in the living room all year just cos I like him!....sammieswife.

How soon, is too soon, to remarry after your spouse dies.
by free2beme inhas done so for years, and because of this, i know this elder a little too.
not that we are close friends now, but when we were witnesses in the 1990's, we were friends with him and his wife.
they had three children, all fully grown now, and had been married about thirty years.

Who are any of us to determine the depth of mourning a person goes through or the length of time he/she needs to mourn? Everyone is different. I admit that sometimes I get concerned when I hear of someone getting into a new relationship too quick after the death of a spouse, but only because of the emotionally vulnerability that may be present at that time causing someone to make a decision in haste. At the end of the day - I don't judge people for their actions in times like this - that's not my place. sammieswife.

Tonsillectomies?
by BlackSwan of Memphis inmy oldest is having her tonsils and adenoids out on monday.
the doctor will also be maybe putting tubes in her ears if sees that theres a problem, as he will be doing some work in her ears during the same surgery.. i've read all the information they've given us, doesn't seem like a huge deal.. i'm wondering though how many have either had their tonsils out as children and remember the experience or how many have had children who have the surgery.. i would just like to know from others what i might be able to expect.. any input?.

Sammieswife: Ouch, 2 weeks in a hospital. That sounds awful. I don't like hospitals to begin with, two weeks would be a pain in the arse. At 14, I'm surprised they didn't just tell you what was going on.
My sisters had it done many years prior without any complications and when you're one of many in a family not much is made into a big deal. My mother did not like to deal with any hysterics or drama so I think it was a case of 'bucking' it up and getting it over with. I had never been resident in a hospital before and was extremely naive about any of the procedures that took place - it was quite enlightening. I was in a ward bed with four other patients and since I had no visitors for much of my stay, I could observe everything that took place and write incredible imaginary stories about them in my mind. It was an education. sammieswife.
