i know a lot on this board don't believe in formal religions.
a former jw friend of mine said she felt so clueless about other christian churches when she first "got out".. i sat in my church this morning thinking of what palm sunday means to me, the beginning of holy week for christians around the world.
i would like to share this, below.
I went to the last mass of the day at our Cathedral (8pm). We didn't have palms at the start b/c the priest, who's quite new at the job, was advised to wait 'till afterwards or else people would be weaving crosses out of them during mass. I thought that was funny.
I think there's a real problem nowadays in the fact that most Christians don't know much about processions anymore. So now, when they try to do it, everyone gets confused.

why can't jehovah witnesses go to the school prom?
i have always wondered this.
yeah, there wasn't so much focus on proms when I was growing up (at least not until gr. 12, and you're only supposed to go out with a JW girl, even if you have to import one). They focused more on not getting extra education and avoiding independent thinking.
during a dinner conversation with a loyal jw, he mentioned that the society seems to be making stronger statements to jw's.
he mentioned the "keep on the watch" brochure, and how it seemed to be for jw's as well as the public.
he acknowledged the "personal questions" the society were asking us, in the brochure - how pointed and direct they are, even asking you to rank your physical and spiritual activities on a scale of 1 to 10. .
Scary, isn't it. People have talked on this forum before about the civil war between the hardcore authoritarians and the less-so ones. I wonder if this will ever cause a "civil war" or an actual split, of course the ones who split would be df'd and no JW would go with them.... so I guess that a split wouldn't happen.

i come from a smallish city of about half a dozen congregations so just about everyone knows everyone so its not such an easy thing to do.
growing up as a jdub was so hard and awful.
I am a social retard. Anyone else have the problem where you are almost unable to make social conversation? Like, the words don't come out of your mouth b/c you don't know what to say?

here is an excerpt that i trust you will "appreciate", in regards to getting involved with the "world".. ' ..a christian might renounce his faith by his actions, such as by becoming part of a secular organization that has objectives contrary to the bible, and hence, is under judgement by jehovah god.
(isa, 2:4) if a person chooses to join those who are disapproved by god, a brief announcement is made to the congregation, stating: "[ name of person] is no longer one of jehovahs' witnesses.
I guess the people who joined the YMCA would be df'd. Same with those who joined the UN.... wait a minute!

Because they want their members to be socially isolated. "There might be drugs. There might be sex. There might be... WORLDY ASSOCIATION!!!!!!!! Would a Christian go to a prom?" And so on.

my mother recently told me that the congregation was scolded by their district sales manager....errr circuit overseer for poor meeting attendance.
it seems that at times attendance would sink as low as 60%.
she didn't respond when i said that maybe there was something good on television that night.
What self-righteous pricks. But don't worry, they'll get what's coming to 'em.
