Few thoughts:
I was baptized a Catholic as a baby. I could go running through my nearest Catholic Church naked, screaming I am a lesbian that recently had an abortion, and that cult will STILL refuse to take me off their roles. I WISH I could take my name off but NO! We can't have that!
Disfellowshipping a victim of sexual abuse? No, that's absolutely wrong. A child cannot give consent. Any woman on these boards will tell you there has been a period in our lives, say 12-16, where the hormones are going and we do want to get attention from men. This is natural and in no way should be taken advantage of by an adult, no matter how "slutty" the dress.
Baptizing children? Well, I was baptized a Baptist at the age of 12. I knew what I was doing and I wholeheartedly believed in it. It was right for me at the time, and even now at the age of 39, I look back at that time very fondly. It's filled with good memories. I don't hold a lot of the same beliefs now, but I most certainly don't regret it.
Disfellowshipping a naughty child? I wouldn't go that far, but I do think that public reproving, such as for stealing, isn't such a bad idea. I like the "it takes a village to raise a child" thought. Hopefully, the village isn't filled with idiots.

Valid alternatives to the door to door preaching work?
by El blanko inok - so i had a talk/debate with a guy today who insists that he sees "nobody else talking about the end of the world" and that "the door to door work the jws perform is the best way to preach.
this guy has a brother who is disfellowshipped.
he has never been baptized, yet has an ongoing interest and believes the jws are a special people.

So...has anyone ever heard of a valid alternative to door to door preaching work? Hubby would like to get baptized someday...but he really can't bring himself to go door to door. It's completely out of his character. I was going door to door working on a political issue recently, and I can really appreciate how hard it really is to do. The subject that I was working on was gay marriage...which is probably comparable in popularity to JW's going door to door. I'm an outgoing person, so I know it is easier for me than for my hubby...so I can't imagine what he must have gone through in order to go door to door when he did a long time ago.
Any suggestions on alternatives he can offer? I just want him to be happy.

does god have a true church on the earth today?yes,and i will reveal it.it is the free will baptist church,which is true in every sense.they preach jesus,they study god's word correctly and rightly divide the word of truth.they are not led by a distant leader,they are led by their local leader chosen by god.if the sign out front doesn't say free will baptist then you are in the wrong church.look for that sign,and then you've found the right church.

Former study here...so please forgive me if I don't know too much, but...
If a man's wife or children are having problems, then I would think it would be logical to cut off anything that would take up precious time that really should be used to attend to his first duty...and that would be to take care of his family. I'm frankly disheartened that this isn't something that is normally done when one experiences problems within the family to that extent. I think it should apply to minor children, however. Once they are grown and out of the house, they are on their own and responsible for themselves...hopefully!

I remember back in the early 80's when my family was attending Calvary Chapel. The Pastor made a point to tell us that the end was near, and he felt that the rapture would occur somewhere before 1990, but WE WOULD CERTAINLY NEVER SEE THE YEAR 2000 without the rapture and tribulation occurring before then!
Any religion that claims that there is a specific ending time is near is whacked. This was not only occurring at my particular Calvary Chapel, but at others, such as the founding one in Costa Mesa. It wasn't until later in life that I figured out it was a fear tactic to keep us brainwashed and in line. The JW's don't hold the copyright on this lie.
