Rev
I have just made a copy of your post, to add to my collection, which might one day give to my friend, to help reveal some truth. Thanks .
that was life before my ex-wife introduced me to her parents,(jehovah witnesses).
the committee told me it wasn't wise to do research for the watchtower was the final authority.
why the watchtower?

it is interesting to read the comments of so many who are no longer "in the truth".
i have not associated for 18 years but as my parents are still very much "in the truth".
i never disassociated myself as i feel to do so is to acknowledge some form of official status over me.
A warm welcome to you friend.
well i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.
calling me a hypocrite for going so long in something I don't believe in.
I havent read this thread yet, just your post, but I just want to tll you that I feel for you at the moment, even though you have done the right thing. There is no way you can be critisised as a hypocrite, when the JW set up forces every JW to live a lie, even those convinced it is the truth. The whole organisation is based on hypocrisy, so that is their doing, not yours.
If you had been in real Christianity, you could have gone to your friends with your doubts, and received genuine support.
I wish you well.
some of you have read my recent thread on my grandmothers funeral (its here
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/90767/1.ashx
) and about how i had become even more turned off of fundie christian religions because of it.
like something from the Life of Brian. LO L
Yeah, those JWs (Judea Peoples Front) dont know what they are talking about, unlike us (Peoples Front of Judea)
they claim that the jw's... as of the new organization book ...no longer announce someone is disfellowshipped or disassociated.. .
but rather they announce " they are no longer a jehovah's witness.
anyone that can shed light on if this is true or not?
How can any human comment on any other human's personal relationship with Jehovah? Judge not....
i think the society should ban drinking.
anyone caught drinking should be disfellowshipped.
would anyone have family left in the org if they did that?
Moanzy
Thats a great point. Even if they stopped short of a total ban but really came out against, that would be more honest & consistent with their policies on smoking & drugs.
Warm Welcome to Skin.
I have never been a JW, but my lifelong friends are recent converts, and I have been studying with JWs for 7 weeks. I have learned a lot here from a cross section of people, mostly exJWs. I am only interested in truth, of the uncensored variety.
A Warm Welcome to you.
someone told me that not so long ago it was to some extent unacceptable to listen to beatles music.
but now it is rap and heavy metal that is distasteful to jehovah.
i suppose it used to be rock&roll in the 1950s, and before that were bing crosby or glen miller the ones singing and playing the devil's music?
My point is that if music is acceptable/unacceptable to Christians (or JWs) then the ground rules should/cannot change with time. I can fully accept why JWs would find some of the expletives in rap and other music unnaceptable. Profanities, if wrong, have always and will always be unacceptable.
But I cant stomach the hypocrisy of the definition of acceptability evolving, but always about 30 years behind what is currently fashionable. How can it be okay to listen to Beatles stuff now if it was frowned upon in the 1960s. Please dont give me that nonsense about the drugs and lifestyle, we are talking about listening to their music. Its the same music. I have no problem Q with consistency whether you call it clean living or anything else. This is just like the watered down blood issue. New light on music every decade?
as a missionary we used to call them 'flogs' and we even had a flog dialogue where we would ask for a contact number and at the end of the convo repeat it back wrong.
if they kept quiet we put them on a visit if ever in the area.
i used to get so frustraed with 'flogs' because they wasted so much time.
Boringly and simply 'time wasters' at least thats what the JW elder admitted to me when I asked him outright last month. Apparently I havent been put in the 'time waster' class just yet.
this board is quite helpful in a number of ways.
do you feel that you contribute to the growth of this board or are you just a taker?
If each of us is one, out of say one thousand members, then we are giving 1 and taking 999. Thats good value in my book. What I personally get out of this group is, however, immeasurable.
