My opinion is that the god problem is far more complex than any parallel you can make with a car manual. But also that he's a figment of the human imagination. He was invented so that we could be the first life forms to achieve immortality, because without him there can be no heaven, resurrection or reincarnation. People want to believe there is more to life than the straws they've drawn and what they can make of them if they make an effort. Believing in heaven is much easier than living well.

most disturbing movie scene you've seen?
by knock knock ini haven't seen this topic on here so i thought i'd.... hmmm, maybe it's because it's just too disturbing?
to me, the scene in saving private ryan - the two soldiers in the small upstairs room fighting hand to hand to the death (by stabbing).
i think that is the most disturbing thing i've seen on screen and there were plenty just in that film alone.

Bicycle, walk, public transport.
Turn the thermostat down a few degrees and put on more clothes. Why do people heat their house so much in winter they have to walk around in a t-shirt, and then cool their house so thoroughly in summer that they have to wear a cardigan?
We just had a solar water heater installed today, so it's free hot water for us for the next 20 years!
I get 15% more mileage from my car now than I did when I bought it in 1994. I used to be a petrolhead and accelerated and braked a lot, rushing around in traffic, always being the person at the front of the line and first off at the lights. These days I just let the car accelerate at its own natural rate without flooring it. A tank of fuel now gets me 15% further, and I'm a much cooler person.

Just informed the sisters at my door.
by wozadummy inwell it's a beauutiful day and it got better in the last hour .. two sisters and a daughter came to our door witnessing and after what i told them i think they are very thankful.. they first spoke to my wife and she told them why she is da'd over the societys stand on them protecting pedophiles ,but she had to go shopping and left me with it.. we had a meaningful discussion and i was able to enlighten them on the facts of the society and the recent cases settled in court in america ,and of course they did'nt know about it .
it came out that they both had observed the society hiding things and especially the pedophiles in the congos.. well then i explained that at least one is in their congregation and one sister said she knew of the same one because an elder had told her to watch out for him because he was seen touching and loitering around one of her children .
well i said that's pretty terrible that a pedophile has to touch your child before an elder will warn you of the pedophile 's history.. then the other sister who is a newly baptised witness asked the other sister why she had'nt warned her too.

i have been out for nearly 2 years, which makes it even more pathetic on his part.. after leaving, this character (thinking i was depressed), would give me the most tactless, thoughless advice that you have ever heard.
he loved 'giving it to me' right outside my house.

My Daugthers refusal to join us for secular holidays!

we are trying to understand her beliefs, and keep an open mind.
we just want her to come and partake of being with her family....during these family times.

Tip: about the only thing they are allowed to make a big deal of is wedding anniversaries. Turn yours into a big family event every year so that she still feels like a part of the family. If she is married, make a big deal of hers also.

things have been great actually.
since i've managed to shed myself of congregation responsiblities, the elders have gotten off my back quite a bit.

I would include suggestion to be polite, don't go into even the tiniest detail, and even thank them for their concern. You're sorting things out, and relying on Jehovah in prayer etc.

when they came calling years ago she was at a low ebb and had been trying to read the bible but failing to understand it.

Every few days I'm reminded of something else that helped me change my mind about the place. I think it's a list of hundreds or thousands of things. 25 years in; she's got a lot to fight. Her biggest issues would be re her kids. Talk about them - what they're up to, whether she stays in touch. She'd be tormented by the thought of them not being saved at Armageddon - unless she's talked herself into thinking they would be. Ask her, if they are, even though they're not witnesses, why does anybody need to be a witness? If they're not, what exactly is it that they're doing wrong with their lives that god would judge them for? And doesn't that mean he'd have to kill just about everybody? What kind of loving god is that?

Stupid Idiots at the meeting
by B_Deserter ini was at the sunday meeting today (i know, i know...) and i heard this one guy give a comment about how hollywood movies always portray rich people as happy and successful, so that's proof that satan controls the film industry because it's a lie.. .
i struggled to think of one recent hollywood film that portrayed anyone as being happy, let alone rich and happy.
if they made a movie like this guy was describing, it wouldn't sell.
