A lot of religion is motivated by fear, the JWs are experts at it. Unfortunately, the politics in America mimics religious convictions and world view, so 911 mania is simply a repeat of cold war fear mongering. As more information on JW hypocracy is available on the web fewer will be influenced by the fear of loosing everlasiting life, blah, blah, blah! carmel

The Tower ate many Baby Boomers
by Alex Delta ini do some thinking every once and a great while and had a little brain storm which to most of you is just a cloudy sky.
looking back into history i put one and two together and see that the baby boomers came to be after the 4 first false prophecies of the tower which were in 1914, 1915, 1925 and 1945. after all this jazz happens they have a huge fall out and change and twist their doctrine to set up their next sales pitch, and wouldn't you know it, who's there for the towers perfect meal, baby boomers, the tower chew's away and gets pretty full for they're plenty of them, those ingredient were perfect.
these people grew up with wars, tons of protest's, scandals you name it there was plenty of things happening to them, add a little this and a dash of that and that's what the tower loves to feed on the feared.

Never had the kahoonas to try it but I did meet a person in Alaska years ago that had an amazing skill or talent in which he could know what I was thinking, planning to do or other bizzar stuff. He amazed me on several occassions with his "insights". I met up with him three years ago here in Oregon. He was in his late 70's and still had the same ability to tell me what I had been doing, what I was planning to do and other things that noone but I knew. He just laughs when I expressed my astonishment... One strange dude! carmel

HEY, good onya Jeff! You won't regret the effort to raise your grand kids. We did the same with our only grandson. Got him through highschool and equally important, got him off the seven different drugs the "experts" had him on. He's now in Alaska with his dad and thriving. We have good friends that had a similiar experiance with their daughter that got hooked on Crack. She's in and out of jail and living on the street inbetween incarcerations. Her kids spent a year with their maternal grandparents but are now in Mexico with the father's relatives. They are wonderful and the kids are doing really well being away from an alcoholic dad and a drugy mom. At least the kids know both sets of grandparents love them and will make any sacrafice to see that they are nurtured and have the opportunity to grow up normal. Wish I could give you and your wife a hug! carmel

At age 12 I was baptized and on that day realized all the promises that were made to me were BS. Their dodging questions from a child claiming I couldn't understand as a) I was too young and b) I wasn't baptized was a ruze to avoid being unable to explain fundamental contradictions to me. I wanted a different perspective on lots of issues but was not allowed to seek information outside the JW literature. I knew at that tender age what propaganda meant and that I was being given a dose of it. So my decision to get out was made that very day but it too a couple years to physically escape. carmel btw, welcome to the board

My Current Battle
by KW13 inranting individuals need not reply.
i need encouragement and general advice, personal accounts etc.. am i a christian or am i not?
i've come to a point where i'm not sure whether or not i want to believe in anything, at the moment i'm confused as to whether i am a believer or whether i am someone recovering from indoctrination.. i feel that i've not had a 'pure' opportunity to decide if i want to be a believe and although the thought has been in the back of my mind, the conditioning has made me delay it and my current circumstances and poor health are forcing me to face it - i fear facing it will make me worse because its yet another thing i am not really mentally strong enough to deal with.. is it natural i fear what being an atheist means for me.

I can empathize with you in your quest for understanding and answers. Pretty common amongst thinking persons that found their way out of the JW jaws! I searched for several years for a philosophy that was satisfying and finally gave up settling on agnosticism. Yet I still yearned for a cosmology that gave purpose to life and gave a goal for not only me as an individual but humanity itself. History suggests to me that humans were very animal and beastly and that there is a general civilizing trend that is traceable and obvious to the fair observer. So it seems to me that have in to choose between a document that reflects 6000 year old (2000 for parts of it) stories that were passed on from one generation to another and complete rejection of the mystical element of man is a dichotomy that would leave me pretty depressed. One doesn't have to choose between the OT view of God and no God at all. carmel

Humans Need Fantasy
by metatron inthe problem with making judgements about religion is that it is all too easy to dismiss the value of its ( usually) unsupported beliefs.. guys like dawkins and hitchens extol the value of atheism - as if they could prove that a life without illusion is somehow "better".
related to this, we may also think that objective facts should overcome true believers simply upon their confirmation.
life just doesn't .

How many of the "christian" technologies can be traced back to Islamic leaning centers? Likely the discovery of America itself would have been delayed centuries without the navigation skills taught by Muslims. Algebra and dozens of other fundamental ideas gave life to Europe which in turn transferred it to the upstart early americans... Islamist also adapted ideas from China and India fertilizing their own elan of creativitiy. We are the benefactors of all the cultures of the past whether we like the social doctrins of the various religions or not. carmel

sharing a differing opinion is well and good if it sheds light on the subject, but if its just clashing of opinions for the sake of argumentation, I don't have the energy to waste the time. I tend to ask a question to get the poster to consider the consequences of their dogmatic pronouncement, but rarely much beyond that! carmel

Hi SB and welcome! I knew the day I was baptize that it was a scam, but it took me 2.5 years to physically get out. When you're 12 its hard to escape the clutches of a dysfunctional family and a high control cult. I'm glad you feel releaved and free. I wish you well. carmel
