Making God's Commands Arbitrary
by milligal inthere's a philosophical theology behind the premise that people who blindly obey (a.k.a.
'sheeplike') have no inner sense of morality or ethics.
take for exampe the idea of shunning, jw's shun those that they are told to shun.

Did GOD become a Man?
by UnDisfellowshipped indid god become a man?.
some 2,013 years ago, a baby boy was born in a small town in the middle east, and he grew up and lived around 30 years before being put to death.
today, two millenniums later, over 2 billion people claim to follow that man, and they claim that this man lives, even though he died!.

Research the scripture where Jesus claimed to be the "perfect IMAGE of His Father" Explains much about why one might think Jesus was God when he in fact claimed to perfectly reflect. Different than being the essense of that which is reflected. peace carmel

god's organization...
by kzjw inis that term blaphemy, or is it idolotry?
if i'm an ubm, but know that "though shall have no other gods before me" i am spiritually wndangering myself?
my mate tries to defuse this debate by saying the organization exists in the form of angels, but were she to spew that bs to an elder, i'm sure she'd get some serious counselling.

Women being in subjection...a sore subject
by milligal ini was raised jw and of course the whole theory that a man is the head and the woman must respect her husband and be in subjection to his authority was ingrained in me from a young age.
my mother, (oddly enough) chose the jw religion, dragged my father in kicking and screaming (he later served as an elder for 17 years) and she complained constantly about men being in control and her pains as a woman in subjection.
now, i already have a good idea about my mother's problems.

The status of women in all but one of the world's religions is considered inferior to men. In fairness, though, it has gradually evolved to greater and greater freedoms to the extent that in Islam, womens status allowed for owning property, able to divorce her husband, had legal access to positions of administrative authority and even considered as an equal in intellectual persuits. It was the Arabic culture that overwhelmed the teachings of the Koran that eventually subjugated women to chattel status in contemporary Islam. Only one religion declares equality between men and women and it ain't Christianity. carmel

ARE YOU AN INTELLECTUAL? Why not?
by Terry ini think i heard the word "intellectual" for the first time when i was less than ten years old.. my grandmother said to me that the presidential candidate for the democratic party (adalai stevenson) was an "intellectual".. the way she said the word...the timbre of her voice...the look of admiration on her face...led me to believe this was a good thing indeed!.
i think i may have asked her what the word meant, but, i don't recall exactly what she told me.
perhaps enough to confirm that this fellow stevenson was a "thinker" of admirable stature.. fast forward.. by the time my teen years came along there was a kind of dichotomy in society between so-called "eggheads" and common folk.

My high school physics teacher labeled me a "misguided intellectual". Someone else who was jealous of me for dating a cute brunette in his class, called me the "village idiot". So I guess the truth is somewhere inbetween,,, or simply "misguided" as my Christian friends are want to claim. carmel

Hubby said he was worried I would ever shut him out like I do my family.
by cognac ini told him that spiritually i already do.
i said that it caused way to many arguments and for both our sakes it seemed best that we did not have a spiritual connection with eachother.. he also brought out reaching out in the cong.
i said to him that he should do what makes him happy.

I think the both of you are dealing with doctrin and not "spirituality". There is a vast difference. You may be avoiding discussing doctrin, but I bet two powdered dognuts, you're being kind, generous, patient, longsuffering, gentle, wise, caring.....etc., all spiritual qualities. The love you have for him is the epitomy of "spirituality" and you should be commended for it. Now, as to question(s), I'm wondering what criteria your husband uses to determine "truth" when it comes to religion. Jesus gave guidance as to how to determine if one who claims to be a prophet is false or not. Would that be good enough for him? If so, apply the same criteria to others who claim to represent God on earth and see where the tea leaves settle out. I wish you well. carmel

Check Consumer Reports on grills. Weber rates high on smaller units. There are several functions evaluated. Sears Craftsman two burner is "Best Buy" but plan on three hours to put it together. The larger units in stainless steel under $1000 are also compared. carmel ps I will never go back to fussing with charcoal and the taste of starter fluid! carm

Flipper,
Perhaps your total experiance with religion has been fear based. Mine has not. Not all religions fit your description, though many may.
