Photuris Female / Photinus Male and the Watchtower
by Blueblades insomething i read about.
photuris is a killer female of one genus of firefly.
she plays a deadly trick on the males of another firefly genus, photinus.. understandably, the photinus males scrupulously avoid contact with the bloodthirsty photuris females.. but through the centuries of experience, the female hunters have located a weakness in their prey, a special blinking courtship code by which members of the victims' species tell one another they are ready to mate.. somehow, the photuris female has cracked the photinus courtship code.

CONVERSATION WITH MY JW SISTER LAST NIGHT......
by Mary inwell i guess this was a long time in coming, but yesterday afternoon, my family all got together and had a bbq at my parents' home.
when my parents left at around 6:00pm to drive my one non-dub sister home, my other sister and brother in law (former elder), stayed for a while longer.. we've never discussed my leaving 'the truth' a couple of years ago but she brought it up last night and we started talking about the religion.
everyone had been drinking but no one was drunk, so alot got said.

Are you an a-xenist?
by AuldSoul in"xeno" is a common taxonomical designation for aliens (strangers) including extraterrestrials.. are you someone who lacks belief in intelligent extraterrestrial beings?
do you believe it is possible that such extraterrestrial beings exist?
do you think it is possible or likely that our planet has had interactions with extraterrestrials?.

Be it here or Andromeda or some other spot in the total universe, what then is the source of "intelegence" and is "intelegence" the same everywhere? Obviously we as humans have concocted different methods of "logic" and each culture has different types of thinking processes. That we have certain things in common yet differ in many respects suggests to me sentient beings from different planet types may evolve differnent "intlegence" but like life itself, is it a spontaneous outcome of physical and biological events, or has there been a "divine spark" invovled?? carmel

Sad,, could you give me an example of "genuine" Islam? To the extent we know of "genuine" Christianity, we know a little more about Islam if for no other reason than a factor of recency. Much of Islamic society that we consider a reflection of the teachings of Muhammed have been corrupted, IMHO. I can't condem the origins of either faith, only what has happened to them as a matter of time and human nature. carmel

Welcome Bea! As you can see many here are turned off on "organized" religion. Personally, I don't really hanker to "disorganized" religion as that would be an oxymoron. You are looking for community and a "spiritual" surroundings without the dogma and conflicting doctrins and rules, rules, rules. I don't think you will be all that content with the JWs who are all warm and fuzzy as long as you "go along". Don't try disagreeing or asking too many questions that shows you are an independent thinker. That will get you the "treatment" real quick. There are lots of great "communities" that are fulfilling and may even satisfy your relgious and spiritual needs. don't give up. carmel

Why did you get married?
by pratt1 inas a young dub in the 80's me along with many of my friends got married, either in our teens or early 20's.. in my area, if you were over 25 and not married, it was percieved that something was wrong with you or you were probably engaging in sex with a "worldly" person.. by why did so many of us feel the need to get married so young?.
i believe it was because of one of three reasons.. 1. you wanted to get out of your parets home.. 2. you had already gone "too far" with you girlfriend or boyfriend.. 3. you were just an average normal teenager and you knew this was the only way you could legally have sex.. .
was this true in your area?.

I read it in the paper that I was "engaged" and that a winter date had been set. Boy was our next date interesting!!! but alas, must have been for the best as we will celebrate our 44th anniversary this coming December. carmel

illegal cable
by ShirleyW inhave any of you (especially those familiar with the jw's in the jamaica, queens congs in nyc) heard of the dubs subscribing to illegal cable.
about ten or so years ago there was a big scam in the queens area with a couple of elders who ran a bogus insurance scam, some were df'd, was even mentioned here on the board, around that time a sister who is a hairdresser/teacher told me that she and her family had illegal hbo, why she pointed out that it was illegal i'll never know, but was just wondering did some " smart, insightful follower of jehovah" figure out a way for the christian bros and sis to get pay channels without paying?
i know for a fact that this family has been caught up with because they can no longer subscribe to hbo even if they wanted to (legitimally) through time warner, unless they were given a certain amount of years and the time has run out.. another thing that gets my goat with this christian family is that as mentioned above the wife is a special ed teacher, doesn't that take a certain amount of years of college?
