without the internet approx 300 people in my area would not now have been given my antiwitness literature. Some of which I can print directly from the internet. I'm not targeting jw's but those who they try to indoctrinate. For just one person I think hitting 300 homes is pretty good. I don't think I'm alone either. Someone else in my town has been busy a few times as well, sure wish we would meet up! Imagine others like me po'd enough to take the time to warn others about this cult. We will make a difference.

How the Internet Means 'The End' for Apostates and Opposers of the Society
by slimboyfat inthe received wisdom is that the internet has dramatically damaged the ability of the watchtower society to gain and retain followers.
there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

Weird Dream.
by RichieRich inplease allow me to preface the following by saying, i'm not a dreamer.
i do have aspirations, and those kinds of dreams, but i don't really have literal dreams.
occasionally, my sleep is permeated by the thought of a beautiful young woman, or a big ole pickup sitting in my driveway.

Sounds prophetic! how awful such a young guy as yourself has such worries! (worrying about mom's reaction) You dream about wine? really?

Penton & the drama this year
by carla inin the book apocalypse delayed by james penton he describes a 'drama' on pg 101-. the greatest emphasis was again placed on the preaching work, and jesus was described as a pioneer.in an assembly drama or 'morality play' on the apostle paul's companion timothy, young persons fresh from high school were strongly discouraged from attending academies of higher learning, and an always laten watch tower animosity towrads university education bacame more evident.. this sounds just like the drama from this summer.
i was under the impression that some jw's thought this was a new drama.
do they just recycle this stuff all the time?

Yet another word I don't like today- effort. Husband uses that to justify abandoning his family, it takes effort to be a jw. However I don't mind the word in a normal non jw way. if that makes any sense.

I know people (non jw's) who say they request a 1.00 donation for wt's and/or a book at the door. So I don't know how it really works I guess.

I thought it went like this- When Jimmy Swaggart was hauled into court and the WT (and others) filed as 'friend of' because the case would have direct bearing on WT sales due to having to pay taxes on the sales of wt's literature sold door to door. In countries like US with these tax laws there was an announcement that all literature would be given freely but accepting 'donations' and even still recommending $ amounts. In other countries where there are not these kinds of tax laws the wt's today are still being 'sold' in the traditional sense of the word. Today in the US as I understand it (correct me if wrong please) the rank & file pay for the wt's & books then try to 'sell' or colllect 'donations' for said literature. If a householder gives more than the recommended 'donation price' the jw is supposed to turn that money back over to the hell. I think that' s how it goes.

What's with my Mom and the NWT?
by Ingenuous inbefore i left the org, i decided to start doing my personal bible reading in a translation other than the nwt.
my mother seemed bothered by this, wanting to know why i didn't want to use the nwt, describing why she greatly preferred it to other translations, and generally adopting a worried look whenever i mentioned the topic.
i talked to her this morning and she turned the conversation into a q&a session on a bible i was looking for in a local bookstore.

Just tell her,' sure I use the NWT once and awhile, I want to make sure all these errors and mistranslations everbody keeps talking about are accurate. I'm making sure of all things'.

A funny way to stop the door knockers!
by caz inmy last 2 posts have been so sad that i thought i would tell you about something that i remembered once when the jw"s came a calling.
i guess it would have been funny if it wasn't so darn embarassing!
when i was younger i was trying to 'get fit' and had taken to doing aerobics in my loungeroom.

"The friends" came over today.............
by gringojj ini am so sick of witnesses reserving catchphrases for themselves.. talking to my wifes mother today she kept referring to "the friends".
"the friends came over today, we went to lunch with the friends".
well if they are "the friends", then what the hell are everyone else?

Reminds me of communism, terms like 'the society' and such. There are far too many language issues to even list here that annoy me! In my home when and if this whole subject is even brought up, 'my brothers and sisters' is another one of my least favorites terms.
