i feel that headship is one of the most damaging doctrines taught in the wtbts as well as other fundy religions.
it is promoted as a way to have happier, healthier marriages and families.
in theory, maybe so.
I understand why the WTBS go along with this- they will argue it is the 'original' arrangement for earth.
Perhaps in the past women have been brainwashed by society to expect to love and 'serve' a husband... im thinking in the 40's 50's and 60's.
What i believe is that men and women are equal. Ya see, in a lot of cases (not all, i know) but in general men tend to be more practially minded and women more emotionally minded- and to have a balanced society i think you have to have 50% of each.

i dont think i have a reputation. i dont really argue with anyone, or piss anyone off. I might have made someone laugh a couple of times in the past, so might be remembered for that. Perhaps to get a 'reputation' on here you have to say something that either really gets people thinking, or really offends someone. Im probably not intelligent enough for the former, and not opinionated enough for the latter.
elders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.
Elders wives were not allowed to shave their legs... apparently... mind you maybe that was just them!!!
does anyone have the factual information concerning the jw's in romania?
i believe there were many witnesses serving under ban in romania for years and years while the communists were in power.
then in 1989 when the country revolted against ceausescu and communism was overthrown, the ban on the witnesses was lifted and they could now worship freely.
this is fascinating reading.... and im sure one thats kept quiet from the rank-and-file.
it's not often talked about but in my experience a lot of witnesses have sex (or something like it) during their courtship.
and most of them never go to the elders about it.
recent case in point: my dear friend got married this past summer.
I did, and me and fiance kept it quiet. After one thing and another we did come clean afterwards and got privately reproved.
I guess the reasons why it happened were based on the fact we were young and found it so difficult not to. All the time i was still a JW I felt guilty about it. Then even when i left i still felt bad. Now im out and know the real 'truth' about things i dont give a monkey's.
My main regret now is having a relationship with the girl i did in the first place. And not putting a stop to it sooner. IT was a case of having so many people against us, we just wanted to prove them wrong, whether getting married was the right thing to do or not....
Well, you live and learn dont you.....

I cant understand the thought behind arranged marriages. I can see why parent would say want to influence the school you go to, but not the person you marry! Marriage should be for life.... and you alone can make the decision who you marry.

i remember there was one that used to go to my hall.
he would say hi to my dad and my dad would ignore him.
i know now that my father feels bad for that, but at the same time he had no choice.
I remember a guy that used to be around the Norwich football ground at district conventions> He was really loud and he was going on about deep bible stuff i didnt understand anyway. There were a group of about 6-7 others on the other side of the road supporting him with banners etc. I was a good dub and tried not to pay any attention tho....
