My absolute favourite is the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. I also second the recommendation of the above post by Twitch for the Banff Springs Hotel.
Website:
(not sure why the address is so looonnnggg!)
Apparently, it is a destination for celebrities too, such as Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Chevy Chase, Tim Robbins and Shannon Tweed.

Would/Do you wear a Cross around your neck ??
by Prisca inafter all that we had drummed into us about not the cross, and particularly about not venerating the symbol itself, i have been wondering about this issue.. so, what are your views about wearing a cross around your neck ?
is it just a fashion accessory, or does it mean something to you ?.
inquiring minds would like to know

I used to wear 2 crosses around my neck. To me it meant I was double-crossed by religion, even though JWs don't believe in the cross. Now that I've been out of this cult long enough I've now decided to go down to 1. I'm favouring becoming a born-again...I mean I miss having that absolute of God and his will and a purpose in my life, yet on some level still believe in a higher power, but don't agree with everything they say.
The cross, to me, is just a symbol. To me it represents freedom. Freedom to be who I am. If I choose to wear a cross, it is my choice, representative of something, or not. I wear a cross with pride. (My JW family HATES it, but I don't care. It is my jewelry. I like it.)

Spanking JW children can lead to Problems
by is there help out there inwe all know jw children must sit quitly in there seats or they are taken to the back and given a spanking.
here is what can happen to then.. .
toronto (reuters) - spanking children can cause long-term developmental damage and may even lower a child's iq, according to a new canadian analysis that seeks to shift the ethical debate over corporal punishment into the medical sphere.. the study, published this week in the canadian medical association journal, reached its conclusion after examining 20 years of published research on the issue.

I was raised with spanking. When I was 2 my dad asked me why I go to meetings. He was hoping for a "because I love Jehovah" answer; but, instead he got, "to get a spanking." When I had my children (6 of them) I was still stuck in that JW way of spanking my children when they didn't behave. One hit...another hit...eventually they became immune to it.
I took parenting classes when my oldest was about 7 and my youngest about 2, as a single parent. I learned how to parent without hitting. I was firm, they had consequences for their actions - but after I learned there was a different way to discipline I never spanked. My parents thought I wasn't doing a good job as a parent. One sister at the kingdom hell tried to assist me by hitting my children while "helping" me during a meeting when my kids weren't behaving. I was livid.
These children are now 18 to 24, all have graduated, are employed (the oldest as an RN) and none of them do drugs or have any kind of criminal record. The same cannot be said for my jw-raised, spanked siblings. All of my children have better self esteem than myself and my 3 siblings do.
Spanking does not work. Positive discipline, with firmness, consistency, and love do. It may take more time and work to do, but it works. Parenting is an investment in the future. Spanking, or any form of corporal punishment, in my experience, does not work.

What's The Worst Thing You've Heard An Elder Say Or Do?

Disassociated in 2006, from Malaysia...
by FlierMate ini don't know where to start.
hoping to find a place to ventilate my feelings of long period... language is a barrier as english is not my primary language, i will still give it a try.. baptized in 2000, the message they brought to me was the end of world that everyone were talking to at that eve of millennium... i believed and started reading my first book, my bible story, for consecutive 10 hours.
during the bible study, the bible instructor told me he suspected i had some form of mental disorder, and later was diagnosed as schizophrenia.

What was your life as a JW?
by tornapart inwere you a born-in or became one as an adult?
how long were you in for?
what made you realise it was all wrong?

Were you a born-in or became one as an adult? Born in, 3rd generation
How long were you in for? 37 years
What made you realise it was all wrong? Had suspicions as a kid. The blood issue played a roll in my realization, as did the hypocrisy, but mostly it was pedophilia. I was a victim of a cover-up, silenced, and made to feel crazy, for one. Secondly, my elder-ex-father-in-law had a baby with my ex-sister-in-law 15 years before we got married, and found out just before the wedding what we thought was my ex-husband's niece was also his 1/2 sister. This happened in Simcoe, Ontario, and they moved to BC where it was covered up and went on to become an elder.
Have you stayed in because of family? I did for a while, but couldn't live 2 lies.
Are you fading or have you completely gone? 100 percent gone. Miss my parents, but no amount of shunning is going to make me change my mind!
