  Bicycling

  as i am without an automobile, i am going to buy a cheap bicycle tonight.

  anyone here use a bicycle as a primary means of transportation?

  any comments are welcome.

  in a city like Toronto, about 10-15 cyclists end up as roadkill every year. I would guess NYC would be even worse. Until north american cities have the wisdom to put in designated bike lanes on major roads (like in Amsterdam for e.g.), its just never going to be safe cycling in a big city....meanwhile the car smog just gets worse and worse......

  to all the mommy's out there...did you deliver vaginally or by c-section?.

  i was fortunate enough to deliver both my children vaginally although i came close to a c-section with my son.

  he was in the posterier position.

  How much control can I have over nephews and nieces?

  my sister and cousin both have 1 year old children, and are both devoted jws.

  i would like to help the children grow up to be normal, balanced people, but as the crazy uncle don't think i will have any say.

  i am afraid that if i ever even raise religion with them i will be cut off from seeing them.

  Im in the same situation.....but since my siblings are'nt gung-ho dubs, I figure that my nieces and nephews will someday view me as the 'cool' uncle who gets to do all the fun stuff and who isnt constantly judging them or filling their heads with wacko religious ideas....I hope my example of free thinking and open-mindedness will rub off on them by osmosis and maybe someday......they too will slip away quietly just like me!!

  ex-elders: how long do they keep disfellowshipping files on record?

  i recall at my old kh a locked and ominous steel filing cabinet in the basement library containing manila folder files for each disfellowshipping case that had taken place in the congregation.

  i found this out when an elder carelessly left this filing cabinet open during a meeting and i had wandered into the library during a fit of boredom.

  being 11 years old, of course i read them!!!

  I wonder, how long do elders keep hard copies of all the dirty details of the disfellowshipping incident? Do they destroy them after reinstatement?

  have you ever considered the anointed, the number of partakers at the memorial and the governing body together?

  if you examine the number of partakers you can clearly see that sometimes the numbers increase.

  i asked some jws about this and their reply was, "those are replacements for unfaithful ones".

  Excellent thread!

  I knew three dubs (all under 35) who were born into it, and decided they were "annointed" in their mid-20s. Where are they now? One of them is now an active apostate, one of them has had 3 kids and is now on anti-depressants, and one of them committed suicide. The one with 3 kids still partakes at the Memorial TM (aka the annual jehovahs witness catholic mass)

  When DF'd ones are reinstated are they treated as if they never were DF'd?

  basically my question is, is there a difference between a person who was inactive for 15 years and missed all the meetings, compared to a disfellowshipped person who also missed 15 years of meetings.

  lets say that both come back and after a few months both are active again.

  is the inactive person treated the same way as the one who has been reinstated?.

  I think they have a permanent stigma attached to them, regardless of their attempts at redemption.....this is why so many of them either 1) move away or 2) get re-assigned to another hall in the same territory.
