It is a sad time, because of losing family and friends, so expect to feel down, and don't be afraid to ask for support if you need it. But as everyone has said, you have made a huge step forward for the rest of your life, and you will be proud of what you have achieved in years to come.

22 questions from creationists to evolutionists, taken from the Nye/Ham debate
by adamah inhere's 22 questions asked by creationists of evolutionists, on the night of the nye/ham debate: we've got alot of people who can help these creationists out, right here on jwn, so it seems the neighborly thing to do, right?.

i'll take the easy one..... #22: if we come from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?".

It is sad that people are still so ignorant about science. Here is a great rebuttal to all 22 false premises.

Marriage Consummation - emailed question has me stumped

they were together for a period of years.
he told the elders, but they said there was nothing that could be done.

I found this quote, in which Watchtower claims it is not necessary for a marriage to be consummated by intercourse. The reasoning makes some broad assumptions about Adam and Eve, but that is the nature of Watchtower doctrine.
*** w56 9/1 p. 533 par. 22 The Divine Origin of Marriage ***
22 When Jehovah God brought this perfect woman to the awakened man in Eden and pronounced his blessing upon them and set their joint duties before them their marriage was consummated. It did not require any physical sexual union between them first to consummate their marriage. If that sexual connection were first necessary to make the marriage a real, valid, binding one, then Adam and his woman were never married in Eden. It is first after this couple found themselves outside of Eden some time later that, we read, “now Adam had intercourse with Eve his wife and she became pregnant. In time she gave birth to Cain.” (Gen. 4:1, NW) Adam and Eve knew that the purpose of the sexual connection was to bring forth children. So in their perfection and with perfect self-control and without shame at their nakedness and without feeling passion at the sight of each other’s unclothed body they refrained from having sexual union and conceiving children while in Eden. Nevertheless, they were fully married and were bound to cleave to each other lovingly in faithfulness. Jehovah God, the divine marriage-maker, had yoked them together. No creature could rightly put them apart.

UN vs. The Vatican - Ex-JWs, are you sure?
by gold_C inso about a few years ago, thanks to this site i became convinced that everything that the jws have been saying is a bunch of nonsense and that i shouldn't worry about it.
it gave me some comfort, since there are several things i disagree with when it comes to the way one has to live in order to be a witness.
however, this business with the un attacking the vatican seems a little too much like what the witnesses have been preaching about to simply ignore:.

The UN is not going to destroy religion, all it may try to do is make it accountable for its actions. Some countries are finally trying to stop religion being used as a way to rort the tax system.
Simply put; I don't want to die. Especially not by a cosmic tyrant who 'judges' me as 'unfit to live'.
You are going to die, it is a fact for everyone, JW or not. So why worry about it? If you believe the Watchtower has it right, that cosmic tyrant will simply destroy you, not torture you, so it not to be feared. Living under a "comic tyrant" sounds like it would be more to be feared.

by Skeptical78 ini recently became aware of the new light.
please correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this new light concerning 1914 means that the wt have been preaching the wrong doctrine for decades?

Billythekid46, you are talking around in circles. Using your logic, nothing can be proven or disproven by anyone about anything. If that is the case, the Watchtower assertion that only a JW has truth and worthy of salvation is absurb, since that cannot be proven either.
It's only when we start using dates obtained by some method outside the Bible that we can obtain a contradiction.
That is hillarious, since the dates the Watchtower (and hence you) have been using are based almost entirely on methods outside the Bible. The Bible does not provide a timeline back to the destruction of Jerusalem, so you are totally dependant on historians to get there for a period of over 2500 years. Then in a stroke of contradiction, you claim you cannot trust them over a period of 20 years.
You have made up your mind on what you want to believe, and ignore all information to the contrary. Time you step back on try to see the big picture.

Free Will - What a Joke !
by cookiemaster ineverytime i hear jw's talking about free will, i either feel the urge to burst in laughter or feel sick.

Why JWs would commit murder if ordered to by the GB

designs - Turning to murder is a stretch.
I don't think kneehighmiah is saying they are going to ask it of their followers, but if they did it would be possible to get JWs to commit murder. History has proven constantly that those in authority can get nice people to murder for them. Most obviously is the Germans under Hitler, or US soldiers attacking Afghanistan and Iraq as a result of 9/11, and not Syria.
It is unlikely that the GB would ask directly for murder, or that they could have millions participate, with JWs being spread throughout the world. But they subtly have through the policy of blood transfusions. Now that they are relocating to a rural area, it is not difficult for the Governing Body to have a Jonestown situation amongst the Bethelites if they started experiencing a lot of external pressure.

A single website or strategy cannot reform the Watchtower. However, pressure from many angles is taking its toll on the organisation. Various sites are doing their part on helping people leave, and since the reasons people leave as so varied, the sites need to be varied as well. Lawyers have to been diligent thinking about each new doctrine, and follow up on court cases due to education of members regarding issues such as blood and child abuse.
Whilst AJWRB may not ever lead to changes to the Watchtower policy to the point of allowing blood transfusions, they have been a thorn in the legal departments side, who must carefully consider the implications of each move, since nothing can be hidden as it once was.
Minimus - not much has changed for the average Witness
The changes in 2000 have been huge. Few people these days need full blood transfusions. It is fractions that are usually required and now a range of products are available to JWs.
Minimus - No JW that I know of has changed their opinion about blood.
I did. It was during my research and questioning as a JW that I stumbled upon the site. Blood transfusions were one of the things I thought were set in stone. Acts 15 without question meant blood could not be used. AJWRB made me realise how naive such an understanding was.

Religion VS Atheism and the decline of ethics and morals
by EndofMysteries inbeing back in college after leaving the borg, one of the required classes for a degree at my college is ethics.
after learning a few things, i am curious where morality and ethics is heading for the future of humanity.
i wish i could find the source again, but several weeks ago i recalled reading a transcript of a very old document that talked about when christianity was being spread in europe, it brought civility and community.

People have less understanding of their morals and ethics when these have been dictated to them, such as by a religion, and so are more ready to break their own moral standards. Christianity may provide morals but then gives followers leeway to break them with concepts such as we are sinners that cannot help ourselves, pray for forgiveness or "once saved, always saved." The end result being that there seems little difference between atheists and religious people when it comes to how they act on morals and ethics.
