I think there is one lesson, however, for others similarly situated as yourself, and that is that they should be better prepared to face the consequences or for exiting the Organization if that is what they desire. I am a bit shocked that you seem to have put no thought into savings or planning for your future. In my opinion a young man of 18 should be prepared to leave the nest, including establishing your own bank acct, savings, part-time job, and cell-phone (when you are able to enter into a contract for one). I hope you will be able to pull things together and be truly free AND independent.

?? I don`t know what planet you`re from, but I grew up on planet JW. And there, JW-kids didn`t have much money, cause there was no allowance, and getting a job after school was pretty much out of the question too, our "parents" weren`t into things like that, they were into "spiritual things", and btw, who can work nights anyway when there are meetings and field service all week long. If a 17-yearold kid has a bank account and savings on planet JW, that`s a fucking miracle in itself. And you`re criticising him for not being better prepared to fight against a regime of oppression? Did Richie ask for this? Is it his fault his mother is a brainwashed JW? For gods sake, how ignorant are you?

Also on a personal nature, I think you should work out and lose some weight. We want you to live a long full life and you do not appear to be healthy. You seem gregarious and confident and those are good qualities, perhaps being a Witness has helped you develop those qualities, but feeling good about your health, weight and being in good shape will do wonders for you and your future. (let's do it together, pm me when you get a chance, if you want to work on a plan together or encourage each other to work out and stay in shape).

i've been disfellowshipped for 4 years now (for loose conduct - lol) .

what i want to know is, what am i supposed to believe now?

i was brought up a jw but i know that so many of their teachings and doctrines are completely false.

I have lost my faith in organised religion though. So where does this leave me exactly?

If you believe, do you really need anything more than a Bible and your brain? If you don`t believe in organised religion anymore, does that mean that you can`t be a christian? "Where two or three are gathered, I will be there", Jesus said. So read the Bible with a friend, and that`s all you need. No need for a congregation, countless hours going door to door to "buy" a ticket into paradise. It`s all about you and your heart and your faith, you don`t need anyone else.

...oh yea i also was really pissed how your funeral turned out...while i was sitting there ...kept sayin to each other how much we hated it and how pissed we were that he was sayin all that shit.. .

The depths of sickness in the JW-mentality had never really occured to me until we buried my JW-mother. She still believed the JW-crap, but hadn`t been to a meeting in many years, and in addition to that, 4 of her kids are non-JWs (one DFed). So we decided to have the service in a church. Most of the JWs were smart enough to stay away from the funeral, but one of them came, of course, to preach to us fallen-away children of hers! He walked around, talking to all of us about how something like this should "make us think", and how close the end was (he even had a scrap-book with newspaper-articles about wars, natural disasters etc, in the world, to "prove" this, ha ha). I could have clocked him there right then and there. Then, a couple of years later, we buried my grandfather on my fathers side. He had never been a JW, and didn`t have a religious bone in his body. His daughter, who was a JW, had taken him to a couple of meetings during his last months, and voilà, of course that meant he had to be buried the JW-way. I had no idea, noone had warned me that it would be a JW doing to service, and was pretty shocked at the funeral. The chapel was filled with JWs. At least I thought that that idiot doing the service would keep it "neutral", but oh no, he went on and on about Armageddon, the ressurection, etc, the whole deal. I just stood up and walked out. After this, I went to my local newspaper, was interviewed, had photos taken and everything, and they were going to run it as a story, "Jehovahs Witnesses crash funerals", but after a couple of days, the journalist called me and called it off. He had talked to the DO, and, I suspect, lawyers. So much for freedom of speech. I tell you, it`s like being up against the Matrix. But if I ever have to bury a loved one again, and they show up, all hell`s gonna break lose.

The thing is:

- The JW-religion is like rocket fuel for the allready disturbed mind.

- The JW-religion attracts people that are allready more or less disturbed: If a "religion" basically tells you that "become one of us and one day will come, when all the people that have hurt you, put you down, walked all over you, will be viciously killed, but you will survive, because you are one of us, and live forever and all will be green pastures and glory", then of course, the ones that are allready disturbed, will fall for that. Paranoia and neurosis will make the person likely to be attracted to the JWs. So will narcissistic and sociopathic personality traits ("the world revolves around me", "I am special" and "I was born to take the lead in this glorious task", and "I know better than the rest, so they should obey me"...and it goes on and on...).

- When this paranoia reaches a certain stage (often along with failure in the individuals tasks), what happened in Mexico is the result.

It`s so, so sad. The picture of that little girl in the red dress with blood all over her, her head, her chubby underarms, it broke my GB, I hope you`ll all burn in hell soon.

...I`m kind of divided on the posting of these pictures. On the one hand, perhaps actually seeing the pictures is what is necessary to show people what this really is about, and how sick this religion is. On the other hand, I think it`s disrespectful to the victims, especially how detailed some of the pictures were, and the fact that these pictures were posted on www.orgrish.com, which is a site dedicated to showing picture of horror and atrocities, just for "the fun of it". The people that run ogrish.com have no idealistic motifes for posting all the pictures and videos they post, with pictures like these, and also all sorts of other, and even worse pictures (among other things, they had the videos of the behadings of hostages in Iraq). Well, at least these pictures show the hard truth about the mentality of this Doomsday-sect. Bring the Tower down!

I think he looks cool. I think that`s the owner of the store, somewhere in Brooklyn, New York, and he looks so pissed, and that is probably because he was in the toilet, there was no paper there, and all he could find was that magazine someone (very appropriately, I may add) on the floor next to the toilet. He picked it up, wiped himself with it, but then he got ink all over his behind. That`s why he`s so pissed. And the next time a JW walks into his money-laundring-shop (he`s a mobster, of course),to "place" a magazine, that JW will mysteriously disappear, never to be seen or heard from again. One day, his tie will surface in the Hudson river, but noone will take notice of it.

A little story of JW-childhood-horror, and am I evil?

this all happened when i was a kid, and i think i must have been around 8 years old.

we were at a meeting, and my dad (ms) had held a speech.

this didn`t happen very often, actually, this one time is the only one i can remember.

Mustang: Ok, that can`t have been easy. I had never heard that there even was a time when JW-kids didn`t go to public school, before I found this forum...I`m (relatively) young. That must have been horrible, explaining everything. Lots of meetings with parents and school, I guess. I don`t think it was easy for any kids, anywhere. At my school, we were 3 JW-kids, and not the same age. So, we were pretty much alone, all of us.

By the way, here`s a little poll. Which was worst, when...

A) ..in the first and second grage when you were invited to B-days, and had to explain these little "quirks" of ours, "no, I can`t come...it`s a pagan tradition...oh, and then there was this princess in the Bible that made her father cut of the head of John the baptist, and..."....and some normal kid is standing there looking at you like you`re from another planet, or...

B) When they finally get the message (that you`re weird and you come from a weird family) and stop giving you invitations.

It`s hard to decide, imo. Both A and B sucked pretty much the same.

I walked around the christmas tree too, once, in school, cause I was ashamed for not doing it (for being weird, basically). Of course, by doing it, that caused even more shame, oh, and of course, Jehovah wargod was of course gonna kill me for it.

Rot in pieces, mom and dad. How could they fall for that crap. How stupid is it possible to get.

Interesting that they chose to hold your father down during his seizure; these days people are told to move out of their line of fire anything that they might injure themselves with like furniture, and let their body work through it on it's own. If you hold them still they can break bones and pull ligaments. Putting anything in their mouth is definitely out too - they're likely to swallow it or choke on it.

Wow, I didn`t know that. But now that you mention it, yes, that makes a lot more sense. I don`t know how aware the patient is, of things going on around him during a seizure, but it really must be scary when lots of people are trying to hold you down.

Ok. And from the childs perspective, this leads to shame. You know, as a child, that you are not supposed to feel that way (wanting the parent to die, in your case)...but you still do. And that leads to shame, shame, shame. It`s only when the child grows up, that he/she can understand that there was a reason for wanting those things/feeling those things. When a child wishes for his/her parents death, any psychologist understands that something is wrong, not in the child, but in the relationship between child and parent. And the parent is to blame, always, because it is his/her responsibility to arrange the relation between child and parent in a way that makes it a good, productive, loving relationship. Of course, I know this, and I know that in my case, it wasn`t my fault either, that things were the way they were. But even though the mind knows, the heart is slow to follow.

Sorry to hear that you lost your dad

No worries. Long time ago, he died in -86, the day after my 13th birthday. Good thing we didn`t celebrate birthdays, ha ha. And here`s some more shame: At the funeral, I didn`t shed a tear. I knew allready then, that this was my ticket out, this was my way out. All the people at the funeral were probably shocked that I didn`t shed a tear, while my mother and little sister were just crying their eyes out. I was probably perceived to be pretty evil by the rest of the cong, yes. I cried a bit the following weeks, when I was alone in my room, so I wasn`t completely devoid of feeling over the old man, even though he never was much of a father. But I knew that I was free. The following spring and summer was the best of my life, just hanging out with the boys from school, camping out, chips and soda and comic books (of course, knowing that my fathers death was what had given me this freedom, and that this meant that a part of me was very happy that he had died, filled with more shame, shame, shame, of course...). Until my mother talked to the elders and had an aspiring young pioneer assigned to my case with Bible study and all that crap, that first year after my fathers death was a great year (except for the underlying shame, of course). But that`s another story.

Good feedback I`m getting from people here. This is my first feeling-oh-so-sorry-for-myself-thread, I think, and I think I understand why these threads pop up from time to time. I tried talking to psychiatrists about these things, the shame, but I don`t think any of them really understood what it was like. I don`t blame them for not understanding, JW-land is just another planet completely. I think the only people that can understand these things, are people who share the same background. So thanks, everyone (boy, my eyes are a bit wet now, that doesn`t happen very often, I must find my shades )

Could it be that Jesus will see him in paradise on that day because there IS a trinity. And while Jesus, as God incarnate, did not ascend into Heaven until later, God the Father was already there and waiting for the thief?

I wouldn`t read anything trinitarian into that particular passage, if I were you. I assume you mean that there is a problem with the statement being "truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise", because Jesus didn`t go straight "home", he first spent three days in the underworld, then was ressurected, spent time on earth, and then ascended into heaven, right? I don`t see that as a problem at all. It doesn`t have to be explained. The way I see it, the point of the author isn`t about getting all caught up in some technical detail about a day (or three), but to show that: a) Jesus had the authoity to grant salvation to whomever he wanted to. b) The salvation given takes effect immediately c) the crucified thief would be with Jesus in his kingdom immediately, after death. The fact that Jesus was somewhere else (in the underworld for three days) after his death, is another story! It doesn`t have to be connected to the Gospel-story. The pieces of the different NT-texts doesn`t have to fit (chronologically, time and space) in my view, because chronology was not what the authors of the texts had in mind. The point was the message the were trying to get across. Of course, in JW-land they would disagree with that. Thank god I`m not there anymore.
