as you may or may not recall, the february '07 km (for the us) had a huge article, taking up the full 4 page insert, on the "blessings" of auxiliary pioneering.
the part covering that insert took up the entire service meeting (aside form the announcements).
the "encouragement" was that the us branch had set a goal of 160,000 auxiliary pioneers for the month of april ("if only one of every 6 publishers signs up, we can make it!")..
I agree on some of the points made here. This data shows that there is a problem motivating the R&F. Further, as someone who started a Hindi group in NYC and aided in forming the congregation subsequently formed, I know how important immigrants are to their efforts in the West.

I have often felt that all of this reminiscing is as relevant to the R&F JW as old home movies are to non-family members. You know the kind that are just hours and hours of family outings and reunions? It means something to those who were there, but quickly gets boring for others. Who outside of old JWs cares about the "brothers" who did this or that in the old days of the organization? Does that have any relevance to the single Mom or young JW trying to get through college? Usually not. And that is why these articles bother me. The same goes for when they have convention parts where they trot old JWs who reminisice about ye olde days in the org. And it also has nothing to do with the old JWs who weren't pioneers or missionaries or didn't have some other special job either.

It also seems like they are getting more demanding. It wasn't long ago that they called for 100,000 pioneers. And as has been mentioned, August? They used to save that for the school kids, not the whole branch.

It hurts, even though I expected it. My comfort is that with the WT's problems this may be temporary, at least with some. I brought out one friend and there is a world of unconditional friends out there. I am adapting and now one year later I have enough friends that while the JW thing still hurts I can overlook it most of the time. Besides, how many friends can one really have and be close to at one time? Isaac
the watchtower wants to know just about everything and the attendance at meetings is one of them.. do they count how many people are at the hall a second time, just to know if anyone slipped out un noticed ?.
I always thought it a little crazy to view one event as two, but they actually view the two halves as two separate meetings. Isaac
"acted discreetly-with wisdom and foresight" Translation, they knew that their predictions might fail so they had a backup plan. Much like today, buying property, planning to get people's estates, making predictions vague enough for deniability purposes, that's called "covering one's ass" much as any good business does. So I say that Faithful and Discreet really means shrewd businessmen who cover their asses. Isaac
did you ever enjoy serving in this way or did you view it more as, "it's the thing that's encouraged, so that's what i'll do"?.
im currently a ms and pioneer(will shed this one immediately) and before i ever were appointed these, i always wanted to.
i thought it was a pretty cool thing for someone my age to be instructing the congo, and to have so many look up to you.
I loved being an elder. But this was because I made it what I wanted it to be. I taught what I felt was Scriptural, left the rest out. I used the position to help others. And as can be expected I became disgruntled and left. Isaac

why is that at conventions and assemblies a big point is made of introducing speakers by name, when the writers of the magazine articles and outlines are kept quite?
At last year's DC, I had two parts. The convention office actually made a special program that was different from the generic one. It had our names on it. I think it as souvenirs for the speakers. Isaac
