Jambon, the World Trade Center comment was what made me finally leave my JW elder husband!
We were married 20 years. On the day of the tragedy he said those same words when I came in crying and telling him of the disaster.
He smiled as I recall and looked up thanking God and saying something like "Praise Jehovah! The Tribulation is very close!" I was shocked and mortified by his reaction!
I slapped him. His callous comment made me so mad at him and our stupid religion. I couldnt take it anymore! He he called the police and they almost arrested me for assault. He called his whole family down to our house to witness the arrest!
That was it for me.
The next day I packed my belongings and went out and rented my own place.
What a day that was. I had my own 9/11 to be sure.

The most inappropriate remarks from Jehovahs Witnesses
by jambon1 ini have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.
1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".
sick, sick, sick!

Ever wonder how seemingly smart people can be duped?
by fern indoes anyone ever wonder how their seemingly intelligent family members can be so totally taken in by this religion?
i look at my parents and just wonder how in the world do you fall for this jw crap?
neither of my parents are college educated but by no means are they stupid and have good judgement and sense when it comes to a lot of things, but not this religion.

I think in the back of their minds they think about their investment of time into the cult and like any investment they hope staying in a little longer will pay off.
After a short while you make friends, business deals, stature in the JW community, i.e. you're invested.
Like any abandonment of investment there is some kind of loss and for many the abandonment of the cult means to lose friends, family, position and stature, respect, etc. They just figure they have gone this far, maybe a little longer will pay off and Paradise will be here!
Each week they are being told just that "Hang in there a little while longer and the wicked one will be no more!"
On another thread a new one, a young one, just left the society and says she will never look back.
She has the right attitude! MOVE ON! DONT WASTE ANY MORE TIME OR TEARS ON THE CULT.
(I like that kind of talk)

Thats like wanting to be a baby again, or a blind person again. Oh I long for the days when someone led me around and I didnt have to think where to put my foot!
Better to wish to be a more successful adult. Making decisions, making choices, using your wit and wisdom to keep going. Honing your own philosophy to the truth as you see it.
Ug, going back to the cult! My whole mind rejects that thought now.
What a trick the Watchtower is playing on so many people. -

Consequences of being a JW
by Regretful_J ini've been thinking about what its like to be born and raised as a jw and the mistakes that parents make as an almost direct result of this cult.
for one thing, the children are not allowed to think freely, and if they say or do one little thing their parents disapprove of, they are chastised and basically bullied into abandoning that thought or action.
another thing is that no matter what you do, and no matter how good your reputation is among friends, teachers, administrators, etc if you don't want to go to meetings, and don't believe in this faith, they do what they can to make you feel lower then dirt for this and will often resort to verbal abuse, and sometimes violence to force you to believe in them and conform.

Quandry, I hear you. I too am nearing 60 without a career, money, nothing. Thankyou old Witchtower!
But hey, isnt it refreshing to read the comments from these sassy young ones who have such a healthy attitude? I LOVE IT!!!!
Come on kids, help us geezers who wasted our lives to gather our courage and be glad everyday that at least we got out before WE DIED IN THERE!!!!!! -

New meeting arrangement - just over 5 months to go
by passwordprotected inat the recent dc the new meeting arrangement was mentioned just once, but not to give us further details on how the new meeting will be structured or how the r&f will be cared for.. .
instead the audience was urged not the second guess the gb, being advised to look at how well the spirit has directed the org up until now, so therefore it will do so into the future.. .
but the reality is the congregations are only just over 5 months away from this new meeting arrangement, yet they know little about how it'll actually affect them.. .

Do You Feel Better Because You Post On EXJW Boards?
by minimus inin reality, is it a good thing, in the long run?
should the purpose of a board to be to give the person needed help and then the person should just move on?.
does being on a discussion board like this mean that you aren't really getting on in your life?.
-
anewme
Ditto Mrs. Jones.
Coming here and reading and posting was the beginning of my healing from the cult.
Even after I was dfd and out I was still under the strong influence of the JW cult and it brought misery to my life and troubled heart.
The healing began when I started to read that others felt the same way I did.
The more you post the sooner you heal! -

Have u found a new faith since leaving?
by chuckyy ini was just wondering how many of you have found a "new faith" since leaving the jw"s. for instance, are u a member of another church, another religion, or are u now a committed atheist.
if u have found a new faith, what convinces you that its the right one?.
chukyy.

No.
I tried for a couple of years. Attended other churches. Listened with an open mind to other philosophies etc.
But alarms always go off when I think I am being bamboozled or controlled.
