Hold on a minute here, this is not quite what it seems. I am not defending them at all, but what they are talking about is NOT applicable to the rank & file attending a district or circuit convention; they are talking about their pre-selected delegates at INTERNATIONAL conventions, which are events that the regular publishers aren't able to attend at all. The delegates are all selected from among the most squeaky-clean, ass-kissingest there are, and they are often traveling internationally for the first time and have no idea how to behave outside their Podunk town. Anhd in many cases, the "delegates" are having their trips paid for or subsidized by the folks back home. It is not at all unreasonable for the society to provide these sort of guidelines, especially some of these hicks may be traveling to countries where blue jeans are simply not socially acceptable. But still, fuck 'em.

Pit Bull dogs
by Schizm ini want to start a discussion about pit bull dogs.
i live next door to a new neighbor who owns an american pit bull dog (also a female of the same breed that's just given birth to three pups).
when i'm in the owner's presence the dog allows me to pet him, but when the owner isn't present the dog acts extremely fierce to the point that i'm scared of him.

"A Pit Bull" is also the punchline for an old joke;
"What has four legs and an arm?"

There are two reasons why I'd go back to the JWs...
by logansrun ini was thinking about this the other day in response to the question, "am i coming back?
" put forward by jw who called me (a former friend).
i said that i would not answer that question since it would put her in an uncomfortable position.

I could not imagine ever wanting to have anything to do with them again. I do not miss anything about it, nor does their message appeal to me in any way at all.

Black JW are Losing Out on Opportunities
by JT ina few days back a thread was started that dealt with persons who had given up things in behalf of the "truth" college, retirement, dreams, etc.
as a black man i see the impact that wt has had on me, thankfully i live in an area where if you are a black person you can have opportunities that as a black person you may not find in miss.. .
i look back at myself at all the job advancements i turned down due to being a jw, i used to work for a white guy who told me, james you have the abilities that would make you a good manager, i said to myself --no way-- i see you guys working 50-60 hours a week, and i got meetings and parts yes responisiblities in the congregation that are far more important than some "job" .

Georgia School Board Bans 'Theory Of Math'
COGDELL, GAThe Cogdell School Board banned the teaching of the controversial "Theory Of Math" in its schools Monday. "We are simply not confident of this mysterious process by which numbers turn, as if by magic, into other numbers," board member Gus Reese said. "Those mathematicians are free to believe 3 times 4 equals 12, but that dun [sic] give them the right to force it on our children." Under the new ruling, all math textbooks will carry a disclaimer noting that math is only one of many valid theories of number-manipulation.

What are your thoughts on writing DA letters?
by mamashel inas most of you know, i have been inactive for about 2 1/2 yrs and completely out for about 7 months.
i am debating on wether or not to write a letter of da to the org or not.
in some ways i just want closure, and on the other hand i dont want to play by their rules.
-

There is a big difference between writing a DA letter, and sending it in to them. I did the former for my own peace of mind, as a mental excercise. I never sent it in, because I am not going to play by their rules one bit.
I also found that what I would have wanted to say in a letter at one point in my life was quite different than what I would have wanted to say just 6 months later. The problem is, their method gives you one letter, which they are not going to read anyway. I say screw 'em and feed 'em cheese! Write the letter for your own purposes, but don't send it in to them.

Any proof of mankind before 6,000 years ago?
by back2dafront ini was just browsing through the creation book and it claims there's no proof of mankind before 6,000 years ago on the earth.
is this true?
the quote a lot of sources in that publication that are against evolution - just wondering if any of these may have been taken out of context possibly??

You can say that again, Jay.
If there was one negative effect above (or below) all others related to my involvement with the WBTS, it would be that of having an entity that I trusted so much turn out to be so disengenuous. When I discovered how they mis-quoted people in the Creation book I was devistated.
I have a hard time believing anything I read these days without a mountain of support and data to back it up.

My apologies if this was already posted. I just saw it myself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Actress Teresa Graves, who starred as a sassy undercover cop in the 1970s television police drama "Get Christie Love!", died Thursday in a fire at her home. She was 54.
Firefighters found Graves unconscious in a bedroom, said police Sgt. Henry Miller. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.
The blaze began shortly past midnight at Graves' 1,600-square-foot home in Hyde Park, city fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said. Firefighters found the rear part of the home engulfed in flames.
Graves started her career as a singer with the Doodletown Pipers. She later turned to acting, appearing regularly on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" in 1969 and 1970.
She had supporting roles in several films during the 1970s, including "Black Eye,""That Man Bolt" and "Vampira."On "Get Christie Love!", which ran during the 1974-75 season, she played the first black woman hired by a big-city police department.
Graves left acting in the mid-1970s in favor of religion.
The fire appeared to have started in a 200-square-foot enclosed patio that was added on to the original home, Humphrey said. Smoke alarms inside the home were functional, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Have a look at: http://www.csicop.org/si/9805/abduction.html and substitute "demon" for "alien"
Here is a sample:
Imagine the following scenario: A woman wakes in the night with a strong sense that someone or something is in the room. She tries to move but finds she is completely paralyzed except for her eyes. She sees strange lights, hears a buzzing or humming sound, and feels a vibration in the bed. If she knows about sleep paralysis, she will recognize it instantly, but most people do not. So what is she going to think? I suggest that, if she has watched TV programs about abductions or read about them, she may begin to think of aliens. And in this borderline sleep state, the imagined alien will seem extremely real. This alone may be enough to create the conviction of having been abducted. Hypnosis could make the memories of this real experience (but not real abduction) completely convincing.

Can psychic energy heal?
by kenpodragon inrecently i was watching a documentary on this woman who claimed that she could heal people with the power of her mind.
the documentary went into interviewing people about their experiences, and many of them actually had medical signs of improvement that could be documented and shown.
while watching this, i was seeing it as a example of psychic energy healing someone?
