Need some scriptures ...
by Wild_Thing innormally, i do not get involved in biblical debate, being that i am a doubting atheist, but a friend of mine made a comment that struck a nerve with me, probably because her mentality seems to echo those of jws.
the question was asked if all humans are considered "god's children" (was not asked by be, of course).
this was her response:.

You know you're a JW when....
by Preston inyou know that d.c. isn?t the capital where the president of the united states lives .
a pioneer isn?t an 1800?s historical figure who traveled the west.
the majority of books in your parent?s bookshelf have years on them.

Normally, I do not get involved in biblical debate, being that I am a doubting atheist, but a friend of mine made a comment that struck a nerve with me, probably because her mentality seems to echo those of JWs.
The question was asked if ALL humans are considered "God's children" (was not asked by be, of course). This was her response:
If you read the Lord's prayer in context, the people Christ is teaching to pray are His followers (deciples). Only His followers are His brothers and sisters who share the same Father. Ephesians and other texts also make it clear that although God created everything and every person, and the invitation for relationship is universal, the acceptance of His invitation is not universal; therefore, not all are His children.
Do you feel the judgmentalness, or is it just me? How would you respond? Is she saying that "if you don't do what Dad says, he'll disown you?"

Everything is scripted for the JWs now. EVERYTHING! Public are given from society outlines that you are not supposed to deviate from. Every meeting part is scripted. And door presentation are, of course, scripted.
Is there ANY part of witness life that is not scripted?

Literary structure/ chiasms
by peacefulpete inbeing very new to this type of inquiry i'd appreciate any inpute to refute or confirm the idea of mark's literary style including chiasms.
the word simply means 'intersection'.
in this case it is argued that mark like other literature of the day used a unique pattern of thought and structure that grouped sections into rounded out blocks where the end half mirrors or opposes the beginning half .

I think it is just considered a writing style of the ancients. I do not know of any other significance attributed to it. Like ....

JW Lawyers getting fed up with cleaning up after the GB?
by ithinkisee ini hope that those that are jw lawyers get tired of the governing body and quit bethel because of the bull shit theyv'e had to clean up after the gb.
it may be happening right now.
think about it the gb have issued the call for more lawyers to the congregations,, perhaps there is some disloyalty growing towards the gb being manifested in the legal department and the gb needs help desparately.

I would love to see a list of all former and current lawyers that have been employed by the society. How many of their own lawyers are actually witnesses? Since college is so discouraged, it can't be very many!

A lot of people have a hard time coming to grips with God seemingly being "out to lunch" and allowing bad things to happen. I think the actions that are recorded in the Old Testament are far worse than simply ignoring things happening now. God "reportedly" killed thousands of people, many of which were innocent children.
Personally, I have come to grips with my feelings about God. I have found salvation with the Landover Baptist Church. If you would like to visit their website and see what their about ... go here http://www.landoverbaptist.org/. You too can be saved!
They have quizzes you can take about different bible topics. One you might be interested in is about God's wrath. http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news1100/godswrathquiz.html

Once, my brother in law had the tip of a Q-tip disappear into his is ear. He wasn't sure if it really came off the tip or there never was one on there to begin with and he just didn't notice before he stuck it in his ear. Well, about a week later his ear started hurting. He went to the doctor and the doc had to fish the tip out of his ear (it was in pretty deep!)
I am not sure if the lesson is to never buy cheap Q-tips or to never stick Q-tips in your ear!

I'm not sure which is worse, wanting to kill yourself BECAUSE you're a witness, or wanting to kill yourself because you WANT to be a witness!
