Was the biggest load of nauseating debased garbage I've ever seen. I've had it with these kinds of movies. It's only a matter of time before snuff movies become legal.

SAW III - A review of the movie
by Elsewhere inunfortunately i can only review the first 5 or 10 minutes of the show as a result of the fact that i got seriously nauseous twice in that time period resulting in my having to walk out.
simply put, that show is seriously f. i've never been a big fan of horror movies because the plot lines and acting have traditionally been of extraordinary poor quality.
the main characters always make some seriously stupid decision and end up being killed by... whatever.

by under_believer incheck out the news on this recent press release from the us census bureau.

Very good thread, but at the same time there is a lot of research that proves that above a certain minimum standard of living, earning more money has absolutely no effect on ones level of happiness. In fact, above a certain point, the more money one has, the more unhappy they are. Sure, the JW's are wrong to denounce higher education, but at the same time the western world has been deluded into thinking that college degrees and higher salaries will in themselves make you happy and fulfilled. More and more people are wising up to the working myth and the shallow promises of materialism, without having to be JWs or Christians.

New Biography of Pastor Russell
by RR innew biography of pastor russell.
ninety years ago the founder of the bible students, pastor charles taze russell, died.
the organization he established became fragmented and subject to strong personalities who felt they knew how to best continue his legacy.

Personally I think the JW's are essentially a monstrous corporate hybrid that grew out of the humble bible students, and that the bible students are closer to the truth than the JW's. However, unfortunately the Russellites still around today still hold on to most of Russell's old chronological bathwater that should have been thrown out ages ago. Its good to keep the baby, but all of Russell's old chronologies and bunkum ideas in that regard are still sentimentally held onto and rigorously defended by most of the Bible Students today. Tis a pity.

My letter to the "Glorious Ones."...
by Justice-One ini thought you guys might get a hoot out of this letter that i just mailed..... dear elders (or should i call you glorious ones?).
you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can never fool all the people all the time.
and you certainly do not have me fooled anymore.

If I was an elder I would think it was from some bitter and twisted youth who is pissed about something an elder did and wants to vent his little spleen. I think it's a pretty lame effort really, especially the childish 'f#ck you' at the end, which just reinforces in the mind of the elders the kind of moronic stereotype person that would even bother to write such a letter; if I was going to go to that kind of effort to write to the elders anonymously while living a double life (a good idea in itself) then why not put something decent in it, something factual that will really get them thinking.

Could someone shed light on John 15:26,27?
by AK - Jeff in26"but when the helper comes, whom i will send to you from the father, the spirit of truth, who proceeds from the father, he will bear witness about me.
27and you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.. though i am not trinitarian at this point, this verse seems to add some thinking in that direction to me.
jesus saying that the 'helper' comes from the father, but also that he, jesus, would send it.

Jesus is just referring to the holy spirit, which would arrive at Pentecost. From then on the disciples would be especially empowered to bear witness about Jesus.

Is the WT looking for a fight?
by Smiles infor decades now the wt has enjoyed peace and freedom in most westernized lands.. but the wt does not really want the easy road, they do not want to be like mainstrean.
christendom.
they need to appear as though they are different, the elect, the martyr,.

Neh, all these campaigns and proclamations of urgency are just mind-control tactics to keep a constant state of expectation and doomsday mentality in the rank and file. We can expect it to get worse as the Society gets more desperate to stop the haemorraging of numbers. It's nothing to do with trying to bring persecution onto themselves.

This really brings home just how rotten the JW's shunning policy is. I really feel for you man. Just don't panic. She is still very young and the best thing now is to just build up such a strong bond with her that she could never cut you off. Love conquers evil, and if your daughter grows up really loving and respecting her father then the WTS dark side will not be able to overpower her. As she gets older and you sense it is starting to become an issue with her (if it does), you could tactfully engage her thinking on about certain bible principles that may make her realise something is wrong with the shunning policy (eg, the good samaritan, to love your enemies, a person who neglects family is worse than a person without faith). The shunning policy can actually be quite easily refuted scripturally (eg, the same Greek word is used for the Society's 'marking' policy as is used in 1 Cor 5 - so you should only be 'marked' not shunned. 3 John only applies to those who turn their backs on God and Christ, not a religious organisation.) So if she one day directly confronts you about it you could try and reason with her scripturally along those lines. You would at least severely dent her confidence in the Society's interpretations on the subject. I would only consider getting re-instated as a desperate last measure, if she in fact bows to the pressure to shun you. Just some thoughts anyway.

The plot line to almost all movies that come out today.
by free2beme inever notice how much every movie follows the same plot line and pattern, so much so, that you can set your watch by it.
here it is .... the introduction - the short moment in the beginning of the movie that has you listening to characters explain themselves and their past.. the point - the short moment that follows the introduction that explain what this movie will be about, and offer at least a couple subtle points that will be major in the end.
(example, a small character mentioning something they know, someone they know or a history they share).

I'm convinced many JW's and even the Watchtower Society are secretly holding to the idea that Armageddon will come by 2014. Many are just grimly hanging on by the skin of their teeth as it is, and if it doesn't come by then, it will be the death knell for the organisations growth. After that they will go the way of the Worldwide Church of God after Herbert Armstrong's death, ie, shrivel up and splinter.
