  Holidays

  i know this has probably been covered a bunch...but here i go anyway lol.

  how many of you guys who have been out of the org.

  for a while, now celebrate the holidays?

  The holidays was the one thing I never had any guilt about after I left. I never thought the explanations the witnesses had were good enough to deprive ourselves of a little joy.

  They also told us it was okay to buy presents and give them out on other days without reason, just not Christmas or birthdays, so gift giving is a sin on particular days and okay on others? What a crock! Decorating your house is actually a good thing and encouraged by the society, just not lights at christmas or any colors associated with worldy holidays or seasons, again I say crock!

  Go ahead and celebrate - I think one of the few teachings the witnesses got right is that God's people are a happy and joyous crowd, so go out and buy those presents, have parties and love each other every day. Including christmas, birthdays, thanksgiving, st. patty's, and any other holiday you like.

  For My Dad.

  today, the 28 february, is 17 years since my dad died.

  every year, on this day, i speak to my jw mum on the telephone, just to say hello mum, i know this isn`t your favourite day.. every year that passes, she tells me that, every morning on this date, when she wakes, she tells herself that today is just another day, there is nothing special about it.. well, today i told her that today was special.

  the sun and earth were in the same place, the season was the same.

  Englishman, I would like to send you and your mum my condolences, it is a special day - a day to remember that your father lived, and it's a good thing to mourn his passing.

  Frenchy, I was touched by your example of Jesus grieving for a loved one - I felt sad just reading the experience and it brought joy to my heart to know that this is normal and good.

  I once attended a funeral of a "worldly" person whose JW sister arranged for an elder to conduct the sevices. The sister was the ONLY member of that family who knew JW teachings - as a result the services were very distressing to the family, imagine how they felt when they heard:
  1) She isn't in heaven
  2) None of you will ever go to heaven
  3) She will return one day, but unless you change your ways you'll never see her again
  4) When you die there is no after life, just non-existence
  5) God only loves those who are JW's - you will all soon be destroyed

  This was how he conducted the funeral, I was the only other person in the room who knew what he was talking about, and even as a faithful witness I thought he was wrong to do this to a family who just lost a loved one - this is NOT the time to preach, it is a time to comfort, and JW's dont know how to do that for anyone else but themselves.

  larc, it was your post that urged me to relay this experience. I hope these examples are a comfort to those who have lost someone and weren't allowed to grieve - it's okay to feel sorrow, even years later.

  it feels great to walk down the street and smile at people i don't know.

  Good for you moody, I still feel some of the constricting and debilitating indoctrination by the WTS - but I'm working through it. It sounds to me that you have a good start :D I find that I frequent this board MOSTLY to hear how good poeple are doing after leaving - it's not all gloom and doom that was drilled into us for all those years. I have just recently learned that the best way to overcome what we all go through when leaving is to LIVE, and you are, so again I say "Good for you".

  Lisa,

  That was an excellent and upbuilding post. I wish there were more examples like this for us to read, where good people do good things for others just because. It's refreshing to read about someone doing something nice.

  Questions for this weeks service meeting

  in the true spirit of sharing all the bountifull truths that exist within gods organisation (note the sarcasm) i am forwarding the following questions i have obtained for use at this weeks service meeting.... building appreciation for the bible -mankind's oldest modern book.

  the following questions highlight points you may have observed when watching this video: .

  (1) what facts distinguish the bible as being unequaled?.

  I can give you an answer to #3 that I'm sure the WTS will firmly agree with.

  (3) How can we be sure that the Bible of today has not changed from the original writings?

  (WTS) Because we say so. (And if we find the original writings to be different from ours, we'll change the originals.)

  Don't they need the Holy Spirit?

  you may always have believed that the preaching work was directed by jesus, who in his parting words to his disciples said: .

  "all authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth.

  go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things i have commanded you.

  This was a point I ALWAYS questioned. The bible - even their NWT included the Holy Spirit, yet the organization can do away with it as they see fit.

  " But the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach you all things and bring back to your minds all the things I told you." (John 14:26)

  This tells me that the Spirit will direct the education of the faithful, not a worldly organization who vote doctrine in and out of their faith when it pleases them.

  And I always thought the memorial was pointless - we aren't invited to rejoice with Christ? We're not welcome at his table? How can that be?

  Is There Something Sinister At The KH?

  ever since i departed the jw`s, i have pooh - pooh`d the idea of satan, devils, demons, witches and warlocks and laughed at jw paranoia re smurfs and demonised objects etc etc.. just recently, i have had some thoughts as to why jw`s are so obsessive about this subject, suppose that:.

  what if the jw religion were itself of satanic origin?

  Englishman,

  I can't give any insight as to the basis of WTBS teachings, and I would be the last person to defend them. But speaking for the rank & file JW, they are strictly devout and totally christian in their faith. I see the logic of behind your post, and there may be something hinky going on inside the governing body - wouln't really surprise me actually, I just wanted to state for the record to anyone doing research on the JW religion that your average run-of-the-mill witness would have nothing to do with Satanic worship.

  People Are Stupid

  sometimes that is the only way to describe how certain things can happen.

  especially is this so when panic, stress or hormones kick in which often serves only dilutes whatever common sense is left remaining.. a couple of examples:.

  I've got one - Heard it from a Darwin award report.

  A man heard a funny noise comming from the engine compartment of his truck, so when he got home he set about work to fix the problem, but try as he might he couldn't find the problem. He noticed that when the truck was running idle the noise didn't occur so he came up with a bright idea. He called a friend over to drive the truck for him WHILE HE STRAPPED HIMSELF UNDER THE TRUCK to see if he could find the problem. Sometime during the trip he got caught in the drive shaft and was killed.

  You're right Kismet, some people are stupid.
