Faith necessary to please God is a great mind control trick to encourage gullibility
by frankiespeakin inthe way i see it faith; as used in the bible and specifically in the book of hebrews is a powerful tool used to encourage gullibility, and strongly discourages critical examination.. "and without faith it is impossible to please god, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.".
it is of course true that when those words were first put down in writing there wasn't the vast accumulation of scientific knowledge we have in our modern times, there wasn't any telescopes, microscopes, atomic accelerators, satellites, or serious studies in anthropology & archeology.
and so faith in an unseen biblical deity was not met with the huge amounts of critical data, in fact for a sizable portion it was forced upon them with the threat of torture or loss of life(such as inquisitions,& being put to the question).. back in the days proceeding from when the official cannon was sanctified by both the politically&religiously minded early church fathers with the states approval or support "faith" as described in the book of hebrews became not only a necessity for future benefits, but became a life or death matter as the church through its political maneuverings became more and more powerful.. so as i see it "faith" or uncritical acceptance of a jealous and murderous and contradictorally loving deity is losing ground as a mind controlling device, but is still being used by those of the who preach the word for a livelihood but with less and less success on the more informed.. .

Hypothetically, If Someone Created a Fake Congregation to Trick Another...
by OnTheWayOut inlet's just stay hypothetical.
if someone wanted to create a fake congregation in 7-miles-from-nowhere, north dakota (7-m-f-n, n.d. congregation) in order to trick the elders at another congregation, what could they get away with?.
just assume that they use a p.o.

I think the Society's lawyers would think twice before adding some kind of loop on their end. With them being responsible for approving the reappointement of pedophile MS and Elders, I don't think they'd be eager to take on responsibility for reappointing EVERY one of the thousands of DFd ones, or otherwise adding some level of review that could be traced to HQ.
What it comes down to is this: Bethel is more concerned about legal liability than infiltration of apostates. Basically, it has them by the BALLS.

Times *I've* confronted people (strangers) for being rude...
by Kudra inhere are two instances where i had had enough and confronted people when they were being rude.
was i over the top??
instance 1.. i was at the supermarket and there was a group of kids (~17-19 years old), wanna-be hoodlums, hangin out in the produce section and two or so of them were eating sunflower seeds and spiting them on the floor.. i said in a loud voice (i was ~10 ft away) "hey- are you throwing shit on the floor?!

Personally, confronting teenagers, in this day and age, could get you shot.
Really? And I suppose there's some kind of sensational newspaper article that backs this up? It's that kind of misplaced fear that makes for a less responsible society.

Sex outside of the marriage vs. Celebrating Christmas
by asilentone inwhich one is worst in the wt eyes?.
-
daniel-p
Adultery is merely "weakness of the flesh," while Christmas is blatant "paganasim."
You'd probably be disfellowshipped for adultery, but all you need to do is act like you were weak and you'd be reinstated eventually. Celebrating Christmas, on the other hand, would be viewed as apostacy.

"Special" campaigns a cause of JW malaise?
by sir82 inone of the principal problems the wts has is, how do they motivate the rank & file witnesses to do more in the preaching work?.
over the past 3-4 years, one thing they have tried is a series of "special" field service campaigns.
two or three times a year, there is a concerted effort made to cover all the congregation's territory with district convention invitations, memorial invitations, "special" tracts, etc.. but, in effect, with these special campaigns comes along a subliminal message that the society expects, indeed demands, that it will be a colossal failure.. for example, consider the campaign to invite the public to the district convention.

I always felt they did those stupid campaigns to motivate themselves, not to actually accomplish anything. It was just a means to get people out in service.

Thankfully, the GB has defined what we need to keep on the watch.
Without my globe, I'd be completely lost...
This is how the WTS imagines it:
"Well Johnny, what do you see in your section of the newspaper?"
"Well pop, it says here that there was an earthquake in China!"
"No kidding! That's what Jesus foretold over two thousand years ago."
"He did, pop?"
"He sure did. Can you show me where China is on this here globe Johnny?"
"Well, I hope so.... Isn't it shaped like a banana?"
"No, that's Austrailia, son. Here it is."
"Ohhh... I see now. So that's where all those people died in the rubble. Will they be resurrected?"
"They sure will be, son. Maybe in the new system you can go over there and study the Bible Teach book with them, and show them how to be lovers of God rather than the wicked lovers of pleasure they were before."
"Wow! China!"
Scene fades.

Great captions on the cover. What always gets me is how they like to set up JWs to look all scholarly, when in reality the demonstration goes like this:
"Look what's in the paper, dear. My, my! Now, it says in Timothy that people would be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. How does that apply to our day?"
"Well dear, we see people stealing money, wars and reports of wars, and we see children disobeying their parents and even shooting them!"
"Yes. Aren't we glad Jehoober will soon do away with this wicked system of things!"
"And how!"
(Well, maybe not that last line, but you get the picture.)

Wife attending DC today.....
by insearchoftruth inmy wife is attending the dc today.
i know she will be all dubbed up when she gets home tonight and i was wondering if there are any comments or questions i can ask or is there anything i should be ready to respond to based on her attending.
i know that the theme is "keep on the watch", i have listened to the audio that auntbee so kindly provided and from what it seems to me, they are merely driving home the point that folks need to be more faithful in there service because even though we do not know when the end it, it is so very very close.

I think you should take OTWO's advice. Don't be confrontational. Just emphasize what a great day you had. She's a woman, and she's going to the DC because of the social benefits, not because she just can't get enough of the doctrine. If she feels left out of what you did, it'll make her subconciously evaluate the benefits she gets at the DC.

Insane Email From My JW Mother
by daniel-p inshe starts out with some banal stuff about where they want to move, etc, then, she launches into this:.
that brings up something i wanted to tell you in person but itseems that i am not going to be able to do that very soon.
i amhoping to throw some light on what has happened within our familyesp during the time we were over there.. it has become very apparent to us now that during that time period from early spring on, in 200[x], satan launched an all-out attack on our family, son.
