I did, but I was 23 when I got baptised, having not been brought up as a jw. It meant a lot to me at the time.

by free2think ini was just wondering when you where going through the questions for baptism did you know you had to dedicate yourself to jehovah before hand or did you lie?.
i didn't know i had to so when i went through the questions i had to lie and say i had.
i always felt bad about it afterwards and quickly did a little prayer that night.

UK paedophiles face castration
by fullofdoubtnow inthis is on yahoo news this morning.
i see it's going to be voluntary rather than compulsory which, for the prptection of children from such people, maybe it should be.

Paedophiles face 'chemical castration'
ITN - 1 hour 27 minutes ago
Some sex offenders are to be chemically castrated as part of an overhaul of how paedophiles are handled.
Volunteers will be given drugs to suppress their libido under the pilot scheme which will also see compulsory lie detector tests introduced for sex offenders.
Home Secretary John Reid is due to announce proposals to allow parents and guardians limited access to information about convicted paedophiles.
For the first time they will be given the right to ask whether a person who has contact with their child is a sex offender.
The plans, first announced in April, will mainly apply if the individual is able to spend time alone with a youngster.
There will also be other limited circumstances when disclosures can be made. The system would build on laws which already allow police to approach and warn a woman who has begun a relationship with a known paedophile.
The NSPCC welcomed the development, saying "open access" could force convicted paedophiles underground and place youngsters at greater risk of assault.
But the children's charity warned that the new disclosure plans could over-stretch limited resources.
Director and chief executive Dame Mary Marsh said: "We fear the police and other agencies may not have enough officers and funding to make fully considered decisions on information sharing while keeping a grip on known offenders."
The package of measures is expected to put an end to calls for a British version of Megan's Law.
The US legislation commemorates seven-year-old Megan Kanka who was raped, strangled and her body stuffed in a plastic toy chest by neighbour Jesse Timmendequas in the New Jersey suburb of Hamilton Township in 1994.
The murder of eight-year-old schoolgirl Sarah Payne by paedophile Roy Whiting in July 2000 sparked a nationwide campaign for similar legislation to be introduced in Britain, dubbed "Sarah's Law".
The system now being proposed would have arguably had no effect on the Sarah Payne case, as she was grabbed by a stranger, and is a far cry from the "Sarah's Law" originally envisaged by campaigners.

Memorial Partaker totals for 72 years by request!
by Atlantis inquestion from researcher: the other day you posted the australian peak publishers and i was wondering if it would be possible to post the numbers of the "memorial partakers" from 1935 to 2006. that would be about 72 years of totals.. my answer: yes, we can do that for you but it will take a few hours to get everything together and scanned.
i will have to use different forms of wt literature to accomplish this.. unless indicated otherwise, numbers listed show partakers for previous year and some could show: "still incomplete" but they are still listed as a total nevertheless.
cheers!

1948-Informant-(10,553)--See Field Service Report in right column. http://www.badongo.com/pic/727980 1949-Yearbook-(25,395)
Kind of a sharp rise over the course of a year there, especially as they then believed that the heavenly calling had ended in 1935.

One of the most ridiculous things about their beliefs IMO is how they change them to suit a certain set of circumstances, and they become even more ridiculous than they were before
Up to 1995: "The generation that saw the events of 1914 would be alive at the end"
1995 onwards: "Ooops, most of the 1914 generation are dead, it must be any generation that reject the "truth" according to the watchtower that will be alive at the end"
Up to 2007:The anointed were all gathered by 1935, except for replacements : "Ermmm well, they should be decreasing in numbers, but they are increasing. What to do? Ah, the gathering isn't complete after all, they are still being gathered. That's why the number of partakers keeps rising"
I imagine there will be more "new light" shining as time goes on.

I haven't personally, but Trev has when I've been with him.
We were walking our dog one day and a group of 6 jws were on the corner, just getting ready to start their fs. I knew them all, and Trev knew 5 of them, and as we approached them on the same side of the road, they turned their backs on us almost in unison. Trev commented, loudly enough for them to hear, and for a couple we know who were walking towards us to hear as well, that the jws had invented a new sport, "synchronised shunning", and wondering if it might become an Olympic event in years to come.
The couple, who know from talking to us how jws treat leavers, laughed out loud. The jws didn't seem to be amused.

Yes there was.
I've wished a few times that I'd listened to my inner voice at the time, the one that whispered "don't do it".

Are ex-JW still gullible or serpent-like?
by BEROEAN injust wondering if ex-jws find it hard to trust others since their bad experience or are they still gullble souls?

Are ex-JW still gullible
NO. You and others like you, still trapped in the lie, are the gullible ones.
Ex jws left their gullibility behind them when they saw through the watchtower bulls**t and got out.

You could get disfellowshipped if you come out of a convenience store with.
by JH inyou could get disfellowshipped if you come out of a convenience store with nothing in your hands !!!.
i just thought about that.
i just went to buy a lottery ticket at the convenience store, and put it in my back pocket right away, incase some jw would see me come out of the convenience store with that in my hands....but then i was thinking, probably if an elder saw me come out of a convenience store with nothing in my hands, no bag, nothing, they would probably figure out that i bought something that i stashed in my pocket, like a lottery ticket.... so, it's very dangerous to exit a convenience store with nothing in your hands !!

I could imagine some of the elders where I attended being suspicious of someone coming out of a store seemingly empty-handed.
They were all so trusting of the bro's and sis's......not

I was called "sister" by some and Linda by others when I became an unbaptised publisher. Once I was baptised, everyone called me sister
