I was a visiting speaker a lot. I rarely stayed for the WT study. I always told one of the host elders I had either already been or would be going to my own meeting. Sometimes it was true.

Leaving the meeting early
by beautifulisfree inwhy is it that when ever you would leave the meetings any earlier then when they were all done...did you feel like everyone was watching you or even sometimes guilty?
sometimes, i would leave at 'halftime' (at the second song) either to go to work or just because i was having trouble dealing with the b.s.
and of course everyone was nosey and would ask my elder dad after the meetings where i went as though i was off to commit some horrible crime.

What disfellowshippable offenses have you done for the day?
by ColdRedRain intoday, as i celebrated the last day in the first half of my 20's, i started doing all sorts of sinful things.
i have done the following disfellowshippable offenses i've smoked weed, i've been on an unchaperoned date (with the most wonderful person in the world, my beautiful and still charming ex girlfriend), i've gotten drunk, talked to a disfellowshipped person, and to boot, i'm on an apostate site.

Not a very impressive list. I have posted a few apostate, sacriligous comments on an internet Apostate site. But the days not over.

Since our parents left at half time about 25% of the time my sister and I were always keenly focused on them right after the Public talk. We had been taught not to ask to go home, so we just waited like death row prisoners hoping the governor would call. We knew that sometimes they wouldn't decide until just before the start of the WT study approached. Now I realize they were just waiting for the right feng shui, that is, when there were no servants between them and the door. I remember being almost in tears when the WT study was called to order and we went back to our seats. On the occasions we did leave it was such a happy, free feeling I can still recall it today.

I've been trying for years, had the number programmed into all my phones and hit redial every chance I could. So yesterday I'm driving along, bored with the radio, when I decided to try another redial. This is a transcript of the actual call:
ring...ring...ring...ring (this went on for a long time and I was about to hang up, then).."Hello, You have reached Jehovah God. If your calling in Aramaic, press 1. If your calling in Buthanese, press 2...(this went on until it got to English, I entered 38)... I am sorry, I missed your call. I am taking some much needed quality time with Jesus. I will be out of the office from now until I get back. Please leave a message at the tone and will return your call as soon as possible....BEEEEP....Uh, yes, Jehovah this is me, but I guess you already know that. Wow, It would have been nice to talk to you but I feel priviledged to leave a message! I'll make it short. ..Well, uh, with all due respect, you need to make a personal appearance here on Earth. The misunderstanding, confusion, exploitation and downright chaos surrounding you has gotten way out of hand. If you could arrange a personal appearance tour, like the Rolling Stones or Bruce Springsteen, and make some pithy remarks, maybe pull off some mind blowing miracle stunt at each venue, whatever, I think it would help to kind of get us humans on the same page for awhile. You know it's been over 2000 years since the JC Tour. That was a huge success but I really think it needs to be done again...."
I kicked myself after I hung up... I didn't even ask for any lotto numbers.

Agnostic or Atheist?
by done4good infor all of you non-religionists out there: do you consider yourself an agnostic or atheist, and why?
it seems many ex-jws that "loose the faith" have a tendency to go straight for atheism.
i myself, would consider myself more of an agnostic, as i believe we have no real way of knowing if there is a god one way or the other, and it tends to seem just as extreme to me, to insist that there is not one.
-
Gregor
Welll, the reason I'm an atheist and not an agnostic is pretty simple. If there is a "god" I would have to assume it could make itself known if I needed to know. Since 'it' has not made itself public I don't feel the need to invent it or even try to get my brain around the idea that it might exist.
The only claims by believers that "god" has made himself known is through cryptic biblical passages or mans tendency to invent gods, or, worse, those who point to the balance and intricacy of nature as "proof" ("How could a wonderful thing like a banana just accidentally happen?" then they set back with a smug grin, gotcha!).
But it is kind of a nice idea! Like Santa Clause, the Toothfairy and Superman

Over the years my work has taken me to many casino towns, LV, Reno, Tahoe, various Indian casinos. I usually stayed in Casino hotels. I also noticed the depressive effect of the whole scene. Just walking through a huge casino floor to get outside was a downer.
Ever notice (I sound like Andy Rooney) how the TV ads all show these young, attractive people jumping up and down in hysterical glee. But the actual casinos are full of really dog-eared looking retirees in polyester glumly smoking cigs and plugging slots. Sexy huh?

Why all the hostility toward WTS?
by hambeak in.
i'm very new to this and please understand, but at one time or another most everyone here was a loyal and faithful witness.. if you disapproove of it or don't fit in as i don't.
why keep pounding at them it is like an obsession.. i would really like to know.
-
Gregor
Why keep pounding at them it is like an obsession.?
Because we feel hostile toward the WTS. I think most of us here distinguish between the rank and file and the actual maggot GB who are the puppetmasters.
Let me ask you. Do you feel passionately about wrongdoing? Or do you live in a world where you avoid thinking about unpleasant, distasteful things? "It doesn't affect me anymore so why should I care what they're doing to others"
When you are trying to kill a rattlesnake you don't stop whacking it until it stops moving.

WHY I'M BECOMING A MUSLIM!
by Dansk ini came across an interesting site the other day and below is an extract from one of its web pages (does anyone know if the following is actually true as i've never read the quran?).
no wonder so many muslim men wear baggy trousers, it's to hide the erection they get when they look heavenwards!.
what i don't understand is what's in it for the women?
-
Gregor
The Muslim culture objectifies woman more than the decadent West. If women are only desireable if they are virgins than they are a 'use once' disposable commodity like Kleenex. Islam reveals the deep insecurity of their males who have a pathological fear of being cuckolds and kill women (including daughters) who are not subserviant sheep.
