SUPERBOWL AND THE JWS

someone posted on another thread: the cong.

i came from we were not allowed to watch football though i'm sure some did on the sly.

football was likened to the christians being torn apart at the coliseum.

In my old Cong a lot of the guys were well into sport, so much so that we sometimes got a team up to play a football (soccer) match agianst the neighbouring Cong. Also my mentor type JW brother in law used to take me to see England and Millwall matches all the time. He was nuts about football and it never stopped him being promoted to elder. A big beef I have though was that I was really good at rugby as a teenager but I was discouraged from attending my local club for fear of bad association. After leaving the Cong and joining the rugby club I soon saw what they meant LOL.

By the way, rugby is a bit like American Football but you don't have a suit of armour on and you have to stay on the pitch during the entire game.

is it just me, or does there seem to be a flood of new people on the board lately?

LOL great emoticon based post Texan, and of course welcome all Newbies.

This board is pretty special because the bitching is low frequency. Some people on the net, when hiding behind monitors, like to patronise, wind up or be plain aggressive to others. You don't get much of that here. Most of us have had a gutful of being told what to think. I would like to think that lurkers would be straining to take the plunge and get chatting. There’s a strong sense of community here IMO.

14 years ago i was a sophomore in high school and fell head over heels for a senior (we'll call him mike) who wasn't really in to me.

i was raised catholic and he, a jw.

i wrote him lots of notes, sent him teddy bears and tried to win his heart.

I had a quick read through this thread. I don't really like giving advice even when it's asked for. People like to talk and listen but they do make their own mind up in the end.

My take on it is the same as:

Any man that would flirt with a married mother of two children is a piece of crap with no respect or morals.

This type of person can never really be trusted. Leopards and spots come to mind.

What proportion of JW kids stay Witnesses? How about in your cong?

the wts is currently growing at about 1.3 % which is similar to the global propulation growth rate.

if all the jw kids stayed as jws then the religion could grow as quickly as it is now without any door knocking.. if in 2005 1.2 billion hours witnessing resulted in the religion only growing at the rate it should be naturally it suggests a lot a kids are leaving, or doorknocking is not having very good results.. of about 100 people born into the wts that i can remember in my congregations in australia about 3/4 of them have left.

is that the same in your congregation?

I left my old Congo a long time ago but I still get all the gossip as I have family and friends either "locked in" or on the fringes. What is a common theme there is kids raised as JWs then breaking away as teenagers and their parents then giving up on the truth. This is either due to not wanting to shun their children, losing face for not being able to control their offspring or just intertia. Maybe sometimes a combination of all three.

I find this phenomenon particularly interesting, as its a kind of pull through effect.

there are many types (group) of aliens (and their ufos) , 4 at least .

they (2 types at least) live here (on earth) , by god's permission , long before we are here

1 (at least) type of alien is extra-terestrial by origin

I'd never heard of American Bulldogs until I saw her as a puppy 18 months ago.

Symbolic generation. Does it extend batting time for WTBTS?

before coming on this forum i didn't know that the jws had changed the generation definition from literal to symbolic and i obviously predicted that this religion will be finished when that last 1914 codger dies.

when i found out that they had changed their definition i thought, bloody hell this religion is going to go on forever.

then i thought that no, they are going to fade out, then i settled on, they are going to survive just like the catholics and orthodox.

So we're projecting to the year 2206.

Possibly Islam has taken over the world and as a consequence banned all other religions, or . . . . . .

Lots of changes in the JW religion.

1) Synthetic blood is now used in all transfusions and the JW's happily accept it.

2) Human rights laws have banned disfellowshipping and shunning practices.

3) New light means JWs can celebrate Birthdays and Christmas

4) Making unsolicited calls on people's homes has proven so dangerous that it's been banned. Funds are raised through an annual membership fee and from internal literature and crucifix sales.

5) The Awake University (TM) opened in 2007 has closed due to Degrees in window and toilet cleaning losing popularity.

etc. etc.

New ~~shite~~ light could help the religion evolve quite nicely into a bog standard christian sect with the quirky yet harmless little ideas of Jesus not being God and calling the latter by his first name of Jehovah.

Can anyone else see this "new world"? The history of the WTS will show that early teachings concentrated on an imminent Armageddon. That's the tricky one.

Technically speaking I don't think the ouija is a game - its all done on a board but its no game.

I doubt if Lucifer allows the demons to play board games though, especially since 1914, although I'm sure he lets them unwind from their diabolical day with a bit of online gaming or some no limit Texas hold em up.

Was Adam's "fall" part of God's plan?

in other words he is almighty /all-powerful, all-knowing and all-good.

his omnibenelovence though, clashes with his omnipotence in that if he is powerful enough to change the human condition, and he is willing to do it, why does he permit suffering?...

When Jdubbing the Adam and Eve thing always had me thinking in circles. Created as adults I wondered if they had to learn everything from scratch such as walk and talk. as if babylike. They must have been very simple and naive souls, and to have such a trick played on them as having temptation thrust in their faces was a cruel move.

You do certainly get the feeling that they were set up.

Another thing I mused over was Genesis 3:8. God was walking in the garden and they hid from him in the trees? Where are you? he said. So an omnipresent being can't find someone hiding behind a tree? hmmm.

Pre fruit eating it also sounded to me like a naturist set up. Was god wearing clothing at the time or was HE naked? If so was he peeved at the fig leaf apparel and the wrecking of the all nude garden?
