What is the JW's take on pets?

i have always loved animals and have had pets through out the years, so that got me thinking about my jw childhood, not to many dubs had pets, i remember only a small handful of dubs that had a dog.

i wondered if there is a jw realted reason for this, so far the only thing that i can think of is that a pet "would take up valuable time that could be better spent on field service" .

any one have some information on this?.

Once when the JW couple who was coming to "study" with us started in on beliefs and customs that are displeasing to God, Mrs. JW was going on and on about how we should never have anything to do with things that could in anyway be related to paganism. It was around Easter, so she was using the rabbits and eggs scenario. (And let's not forget that ever manacing "Christmas tree"!)

I asked her if JWs have pets.

Do they own cats?

Hmmm.... I seem to recall there are pagan religions that view cats as gods. If you are to stay away from everything associated with paganism, why do JWs keep cats for pets?

They are God's creatures! He made them.

Did God not also make eggs? Rabbits? Trees?

I never really got a good explanation, but I could see the wheels starting to turn a little in her eyes. She actually broke down in tears when our beagle died, but remained as dry-eyed as a desert when I told her about my Aunt passing away.

That's "WTS love" for you, I suppose!

Hello, we are Jehovah's Witlesses and we are here to take control of every aspect of your life. You will have to stop doing everything that is part of normal human life and spend all your time and money screeching around doing this door to door work with us. And, if you break one of our millions of rules, you will be cut off from any family members that you are supposed to be bringing into this cult.

Could someone print this up on postcards and send them out to people that you know are studying with the JWs? This is the closest thing to a truthful "statement of faith" I have ever come across!

Question for diabetics---Need a recipe:

my husband's friend at work is a diabetic and is leaving to go to a new job.

my husband promised i would make him a couple of fresh blackberry pies from our own fresh picked blackberries, but they have to be made without sugar!.

my typical way of pie baking is the lazy woman's way.

My typical way of pie baking is the lazy woman's way. Take two store bought pie crusts, layer berries and sugar/flour mixture, top with another store bought crust, and pop in the oven.

Do I do the same thing, but use Splenda rather than sugar? How much do I use? Haven't found a recipe online for simple blackberry pie, so I thought maybe someone here could advise me.

Thanks for your help. I've been here so long, I love to come to you guys first when I have questions about almost anything, even recipes. :0)

How to get the News out to Witnesses About their Child Molestation Coverup?

as you know i talked with an elder and his wife who came to my door for 30 minutes about it.

also mrs. flipper and i have left upwards of 200 news release fliers on witness cars parked at kingdom halls.

Intercepting JW's on the 4th of July! Oh what fun!

i must tell you an interesting story from today.

gary and i went thru a drive-thru for breakfast and were sitting at our local park (in the car) enjoying our high fat, high cholesterol breakfast when, low and behold, here comes a group of jw's sloooooowly checking out the area.

(this is right by the river on the green circle trail, which is a favorite place for joggers, walkers, bikers, etc.

It seems that you were able to "educate" a few interested bystanders, along with the fisherman, about the under-belly of the WTS! I would have given anything for my JW friend to have heard both sides of the coin, BEFORE she became too involved to listen to someone who has been burned by the organization.

You did a great thing. By the way, most fishermen I know love good stories to tell. This will be a good one he can tell his buddies and then they will have a heads-up on the WTS too!

i noticed another thread on this site relaying a stupid e mail making the rounds of dubdom.. well i just got this one and i thought i would share.... powerful illustration.

after the prayer, the local elder slowly stood up, walked up to the.

Maybe some one already posted what I am about to point out.

I remember a pastor reading this story in a church I attended. He gave the actual names of the people involved, etc... Funny thing is, it was NOT a Jehovah's Witness story. It was a regular old Christian. This guy must have read or listened to the Chistioan version and decided to adapt it to his own religion. (Is that allowed?!)

The JW gurus who tried to indoctrinate me also twisted a few stories like this. I'm quite sure they were telling them just as they were told, but they weren't privy to searching the net, so they didn't know the stories had been out for awhile, how to find out where they originated, and whether they were true or not (or if they were actually about the JWs).

did you feel guilty when you missed meetings for no good reason ?

did you feel you had to hide from other witnesses seing you ?

how did it make you feel if someone did see you , the next time you saw them did you make-up some excuse ?.

I've never been a JW, so from the outside looking in, this all seems so much like a religious group of "tattle-tales". My natural response to something like this would be, "Mind your own business! I'll be there when I want to, and if I want to do something else, it's none of your darn business!"

How do they train peope to tattle on each other like this? Do some JWs feel bad about telling on their friends?

I've been reading a book called A Brother's Journey by Richard Pelzer. He is the brother of David Pelzer, who wrote A Child Called IT. It is horrific story of the unspeakable abuse these kids went through. Richard was under the fearful control of his mother. Sometimes when he would have a bad day at school, etc... he would plant a sandwhich in the basement where his brother was kept, and then go tell his mother, just so his brother WOULD get abused. He said that after feeling powerless at school, it gave him a sense of power and control at home. He is very ashamed of it now, but then it didn't seem bad. He knew it kept her scope off of him, his brother was considered a nothing, and it was just the way things were. Until his brother was taken away. Then her scope was set on him.

Is that what it is like? By telling on someone else, you keep the scope off of yourself? You can dodge bulletts, by making sure the gun is aimed at someone else? And there is a feeling of superiority and control by having that power?

There has to be something that is a payoff for the person who is doling out this abuse to other members of the congregation.

I'll be so happy when my friend finally gets her release from this group.

How about the WTS book called "MIllions Now Living Will Never Die"?

I think on pages 89-90 it even gives a specific date for their return. 1925.

I remember reading somewhere in WTS materials that the return was expected within months, not years. But I'm not sure which book that was in. (I know it was a LONG time ago, so I guess they got that one wrong too!)
