Is Clairvoyance evil or a human trait?
by Amazing1914 inthe society taught that psychic ability and clairvoyance were of satan and the demons.
they equated these characteristics as unchristian and to be avoided.
therefore, they are linked to ouiji board, wiccan activities, and even the seer that saul visited to conjure up samuel in a vision.

What are the odds a golfer can hit a 95 yard pitch from the fairway, have it hit the flag, bounce a couple of times, and the go in the hole?
The next hole being a 196 yard par 3, he hits a 5 iron, skulls it badly (hits a low screamer by accident), but the ball hits the pin, bounces a couple of times, and again finds the hole?
It's happened, many times, yet the mathematical odds of it happening are astounding, And it's likely the golfer didn't say a prayer first or ask for divine intervention.

Talesin and Euphanism may be right. She may not have realised what she was doing was wrong for a JW to do, and $400.00 to her is like 40 cents to an average joe.
The Flock book on page 136 says:
Christians should avoid gambling in all its various forms,
including lotteries. (Compare Isaiah 65:11; w89 7/15 p.
30; g82 7/8 pp. 25-7; g81 11/22 p. 27.)- Gambling can lead to or incite unchristian traits, such as
greediness and covetousness. (Rom. 13:9, 10; 1 Cor. 6: 9,
10; Col. 3:5)- Additional bad results from gambling and association
with gamblers give true Christians further reasons for
avoiding it. (1 Cor. 15:33; g85 8/8 pp. 22-3; g82 7/8 pp.
25-7; w80 9/1 pp. 29-30; w72 10/1 pp. 593-4)
repeated counsel unrepentantly pursues a course of
greediness, he could be disfellowshipped from the
Christian congregation. (w80 9/1 pp. 29-30; w67 6/15 p.
356) (italics mine) - Additional bad results from gambling and association
Serena didn't make a practice of gambing, it appears it has not been determined that repeated counsel be administered to her, and it says the person "could," not "should" be expelled from the congo.
If indeed she's not baptized, she wouldn't be setting a good example for young JWs, but she's already not doing that. She likely didn't know what she was doing, her bodyguard put up $400, she won, still didn't know what to do, and gave it away. People running in fast crowds can end up in places they wouldn't have dreamed of seeing as a kid.
Also, the elders have a way out of pressing matters:
***
w80 9/1 p. 30 Questions from Readers ***It can be ‘the thin edge of the wedge,’ and especially would this be dangerous in encouraging the gambling spirit where children are among the players. Why not just keep a pencil score, or otherwise play the game simply for the fun of it? The spiritual elders in the congregation would not want to get involved in what you do in this respect. They would not try to legislate as did the religious leaders described at Luke 6:1-5. (italics mine)

Recent most over-hyped movie that wasn't so good: The Usual Suspects.
Recent films I least enjoyed: Armageddon, and anything with either Halle Berry, Bill Pullman, or Hugh Grant in it.\
Edited to add: Mob Boss being argued as being good 'cause it got an A+ from one reviewer is a funny fact to point out.

Debate: That alcohol advertising should be banned

i thought i'd try making a debate thread.. topic: "that alcohol advertising should be banned".
i'm doing a debate tomorrow on this topic, i got pulled in at the last minute cause one of the speakers got sick.. evanescence

Which position will you be debating? 60 Minutes had a piece about parents who were arrested then released for serving alcohol at a teen party, while supervising and making sure nobody that drank would drive, and included a commercial for a fruit-flavored alcoholic beverage that seemed to appeal to younger people.

What Belief or Teaching Do You Think The Watchtower Will Next Abandon?
by minimus indo you believe the society will just stay on automatic pilot or do you think some "new lite" is in store for witnesses?
-
Cygnus
: I think the next teaching they'll change is allowing auxilary pioneers to only need 40 hours in each month.
And there'll be pressure to make one's time count, not just to count time. Elders would have to be ever-vigilant to keep on top of such things. Fat chance, elders are all ready overworked and overburdened.

What's the JW view on food intake?
by sonnyboy in.
i've been thinking, if the jws won't allow smoking, excessive drinking, or the alteration of the outer body, do they also have rules about caloric, saturated fat, transfat, and sodium intake?
these things can be just as harmful to the body in the long run.

Well I just did maybe 15 minutes of research on the WT-CDROM and in the Flock book and couldn't find anything about expelling someone from the congo for gluttony or making overeating a practice.
