The Time Of The End: Could It Be Upon Us?
by jayhawk1 init has been so long since i had anything to say on this site.
but here it goes.... for those who don't know or remember my story... five years ago i walked out of the kingdom hall for the last time.
it was the weekend after my dad tragically died and just a few weeks after reading sites like freeminds.org.

Jay, I don't think you're the only one. I drove around town briefly today and horns were blaring, people were cutting others off, illegally passing.... did a little grocery shopping too and everyone from the customers to the clerks to the managers all seemed pissed off.
I went through a similar "crisis" several years ago when I was still married to a JW woman, She had asked that I not be home one evening because she wanted to have some other dubs over and my presence would make everyone uncomfortable. That made me upset, then I started thinking, Nobody has anything to offer better than the Witnesses did.
I'm glad I got over that, and I'm glad to be alive and moderately well and not at age 33 in 1805, or 1905, or 1955. Marilyn Manson once astudedly pointed out that the American media is full of bad news and markets bad news so self-help books, pharmaceuticals, and all sorts of things are being sold because people are being conditioned to be afraid. Living in fear is a horrible thing and I hope you can right your ship. (Paxil, and now Lexapro does wonders for my inherent anxiety disorder, BTW.)

The Flock book specifically states that a person who is deemed unrepentant and should be DF'd is to be informed that he has 7 days to appeal and informing the congo is not to occur until those 7 days are up. That may be the reason for the reversal. They either realized or were told that pages 121-2 of the Flock book were not followed, therefore a serious error was indeed made, one good enough for a CO who doesn't see enough "inactive publishers" so he can exercise his Jehovah-given ability to lay down guilt trips on the congo to instruct the elders to reverse their original decision.

My guess is your letter got forwarded to the branch office, an overseer there saw it, had a heated conversation with the chairmen of your hearings, told them to get their act together and they're on their own if they screw up, and you got off the hook.
I appealed to the Society twice. EFG:ECH or whoever it was that wrote me back said they found no reason to question the judgments of the judicial committees, that's it, they didn't answer any of my direct questions.
A little off-topic, I love Joe Malik's story about how he wrote the Society a letter and later happened upon a certain GB member who poked him in the chest with his finger and said something like, "That letter of yours stirred up a lot of trouble!" lol

Living in a new area...again
by Chia ini had no idea where to put this.
well, today is my first day in a very new town.
i just moved from poughkeepsie, ny to hatfield, pa. i only know a few people here in town and i don't have a job yet.

Good luck, Chia. Your circumstance sure is familiar. I would second the recommendation to enjoy some free time and get to know the town a little before you worry about getting a job. Money isn't everything, and if you've got health then take your time and worry about cashflow in a couple of weeks. Just my uninformed advice.

The Great Eastern-Canadian Aposta-tour 2005 is over.
by kwintestal inthanks for everyone who sent us some love on scully's post.
my head is still spinning.. we left halifax wednesday afternoon, still tired from the previous night of beer drinking and visiting with uzzah, driving to freeport maine and staying the night there.
the next day involved back-to-school outlet shopping and continuing the rest of our trip to niagara falls and getting there about 10 pm.. friday mrs. kwin had to still get a dress for the wedding we were going to on saturday, so we spent the morning doing that, visiting mrs. kwin's parents then spent the evening drinking beer with mr and mrs quotes until 1 am!

Those who saw 1914...
by OldSoul inlet's do a little exercise:.
if the generation that saw 1914 will not die before armageddon, as specifically stated by the prophet class (the faithful and discreet slave, per current understanding), how many are left?.
i'll be generous and say that a nine year old could grasp the sharp 1914 changes jws cleave to...well, cleave to religiously, i suppose.. according to the population division of the department of economic and social affairs of the united nations secretariat, world population prospects: the 2004 revision, accessed online at esa.un.org/unpp, sept. 1, 2005, there are about 265,000 persons age 100 or older (that is, who were alive in 1905) in 2005. in other words, world-wide there are fewer from the "generation" that saw 1914 than many city populations in the u.s. alone.. now, suppose for the sake of ludicrous forebearance, we say that the prophet class is allowed a mulligan (a concept flatly disallowed by deuteronomy 18:20-22 and 1 john 4:1).

"This Generation"
"In the western world 'this generation' might suggest a period extending over the lifetime of an individual... 'Generation' [however] does not mean a fixed period of [years], but a 'block' of humanity characterized by its evil tendencies, something like 'this evil brood' or 'this perverse society organized in opposition to God.'... This meaning of the word goes back to the Hebrew Bible.... [C.E.B. Cranfield,] a leading New Testament scholar says: 'Probably "generation" is best taken in the sense of "age," "period of time," which is the primary meaning of the Hebrew dor,' -- the word regularly rendered by 'generation' in the Greek of the Septuagint."

Smells that evoke memories...
by LittleToe inisn't it funny how certain smells can have a strong effect in evoking distant memories?.
i was reminded of this when i just opened my desk drawer.
a little earlier today i bought a local newspaper (which is unusual for me) and didn't have time to read it so i stuck it in the drawer.

Yay Crumpet, your spirits seem high, that's just as important as your leg's healing. If I can offer a word of advice, if people wish to dote on you, LET THEM. There's nothing worse than being unhealthy and nobody to look after you and yours. Glad to have ya back. :)
