Banning violent video games from Bethel premises sounds legitimate to me. What they ought to be concerned with is how many young JWs play these games at home these days. This ain't Pac Mac and Donkey Kong we're talking about.

i am not sure of the validity of it but here it is anyway.

Study conductor claims the "WTS is not the FDS"...and other JW affirmations
by M.J. ini am currently following the ongoing saga of a person who is studying to be a jw and her unbelieving husband's attempts to sway her in this endeavor.
he has gotten her to read cofc and she's halfway through it, but nonetheless, she remains bound to the jws and wants to continue her persuit.
he has tried to call into question that the wts could have been appointed by jesus as the "faithful, discreet slave", but the person she is studying with flat out told her that jws do not believe that jesus chose the wts as the fds and, that they don't believe that they are the one chosen religion/church.

Ask what the third question during the baptism vows are. That ought to clear matters up sufficiently.

Have any of you examined early christian history and found many problems?
by booker-t injust for a moment imagine that you are talking to a person and he mentions to you that you have to baptize animals in order to be saved or that you have to believe in the trinity doctrine that is composed of god the father, god the son and god the mother(mary) would you believe that these were some of the things early christians believed in.
would you be shocked to know that many dates were set for jesus to rapture up the christians in the sky and nothing materalized?
many born-again christians argue you down tooth and nail stating that born-again christianity does not have skelatons in their closets like the mormons and jw's but the truth of the matter born-again christianity has many, many embarassing skelatons.

A somewhat knowledgable Hindu man once explained to me that one form of the early trinity was indeed Father, Son, and Mother (Mary). So I don't think it's beyond reason. Maybe the Shekinah light of the Israelite days morphed into a mother-god for some early Christians. All I know is, those people from 30 CE to 100 CE didn't have a lot of writing, communication, or base of operations as the book of Acts suggests, and I'm sure all sorts of ideas floated here and there word of mouth by myth-crazed persons who were lucky to live to be 40 years old.
Edited to add: A very nice born-again lady who knew her scriptures was staying in the mental ward I stayed in for 3 days after my nervous breakdown and I bought her a new King James Bible as a present when I came back to visit and she was so happy and gracious. Just because people believe in weird things doesn't make them bad people.

..... a real mess. I have decided I am well mentally some days and other days I'm not. I have deleted my yahoo accounts as most of the people there are worse off than I am. Most of you people here at JWD seem to have level heads on your shoulders and positive things to say so I read here from time to time. Another thank you to all who have sent me private messages of support, and joannadandy is an absolute goddess. I say that here because these words will be archived and perhaps saved forever and she is deserving of such eternal praise.

Eduardo, nice to see you and it is a pleasure to read your posts.
The law aside, the JW was simply being a dick. I know of a lot of JWs who gladly consent to keep in the good graces of their employers by bending WTS' rules for the sake of their employment.
By the same token, several years ago when my JW parents operated a store, they did not put St. Nick or Frosty the Snowman in the windows but just decorated with 12 inch snowflakes. The elders told them to take them down as apparently snowflakes are associated with Christmas. My parents told them where they could put the snowflakes once spring came.

I hear that in 2006 they are preparing a release entitled Reasoning With the Sisters, Volume 1. Volumes 2-30 are slated for following months and years to come.
LOL I know that is an old joke but it always busts my gut as it was told me to me in the bathroom by a long time respected JW elder who gave district convention speeches every year.

"Battle" over Evolution
by IronGland inwashington post article, i boldened some of the points that really made me go .
wichita a??
propelled by a polished strategy crafted by activists on america's political right, a battle is intensifying across the nation over how students are taught about the origins of life.

Have any of you read Charles Russell's response to Darwinism back around 1890 or so? It's very funny, shows that nothing has changed much in the creationist's mind in 115 years, and I'd reproduce it here if my desktop was working.

Can anyone help with info to refute only 144,000 going to heaven?
by The Leological One ini've recently shown my wife this forum (she's a df'd jw who does still hold fast to jw views).
she's been really depressed and feels down on herself constantly because she wasn't a better witness and seems to feel she has no hope of a personal relationship with god now that she's df'd.
i was a little upset a moment ago trying to get her out of her depression by pushing my point of view that the wt is full of $hit regarding a great many number of things, the least of which that only 144,000 people are going to heaven/effectively can be saved.

I would suggest that instead of bombarding her with all sorts of scriptures and explanations, you might want to point out that some Christian groups do not believe that anyone goes to heaven (Christadelphians, Church of God Abrahamic Faith).
You might also want point out to her the scripture by the apostle John at 1 John 3:2: "Beloved ones, now we are children of God, but as yet it has not been made manifest what we shall be. We do know that whenever he is made manifest we shall be like him, because we shall see him just as he is."
So even the aged apostle John under inspiration did not know everything. I would suggest to lovingly assure her that she not overly concern herself about the 144,000, who they might be, what she might be, etc. and just try to please God to the best of her ability, as John did.

I guess all I can add to this is that I probably could have played high school sports but I felt it was the wrong thing to do.
I remember, maybe 9 or 10 years ago when I was still a JW the circuit overseer said something from the platform about children going to school activities instead of being at the meeting. He was referring to a family that had their two little girls perform in a dance recital that coincided with a meeting night, and they chose the dance recital. Boy was the father mad at the CO and almost had to be restrained when he had words to say to that CO. (That CO, by the way, was a huge hockey fan and would play ice hockey with the local brothers when we rented out ice rinks for a couple of hours late at night on weekends.)
