  I'm Attending the Memorial

  my lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.

  when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.

  but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

  Name better ways to attract new people at the Kingdom Hall?

  1) build a hall in the center of the city, not far away like they usually do.. 2) make it 1 hour meetings.

  3) dress clean, that's all.

  4) beards or no beards, that's not important, it's what's in your heart that counts.. .

  i was just pondering how the wts has, for over a century, been able to convince people to do what is contrary to their best interests with fear tactics that armageddon is coming soon, and i came up with what is going to be my pet phrase for a while:.

  Someone on this board summed it up very nicely a while back:

  The only people that give a freak about the Jehovah's Witnesses are Jehovah's Witnesses and ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. Not all that many people, in the grand scheme of things.

  By the way, there's a great chapter about the JWs in the book The American Religion by Harold Bloom, from 1992.

  And check out Letter To A Christian Nation by Sam Harris, just published. (Not about JWs.)

  I've been following them since Brandon Inge joined the team. He's from my hometown. I actually played little-league ball with his uncle (a million years ago). I like that he's a throw-back type of player. I've always been a National League guy, but I'll root for the Tigers this year.
