We had a pseudo-intellectual in our congregation back in the day. Everyone would swoon whenever he quoted some Greek words. "Oh, Brother Pseudo is sooo smart, just go ask Brother Pseudo."

I challenge all of you!
by Mr. Falcon ini've compiled my list of the 10 worst comedians ever.
jay leno - just a massively tired and unfunny tool who should be burned for what he did to conan especially.. talented opposite: conan o'brien or jimmy kimmel.. carrot top - somehow figured out how to make a career out of prop comedy.
i'll give him that much.. talented opposite: this is tough because prop comedy is deader than ghenkis khan.

David Letterman was the reason I bought my first VCR back in the '80s.
Now I whence whenever I catch a few minutes of his show.

I'm starting to rethink my position on organized religion
by sabastious ini have been one to demonize organized religion because i had attached an "enemy tag" to them at some point in my life.
when i started going through the reasons why i consider it an "enemy" i figured something out.. organized religion's are just large dysfunctional groups.
my family is a smaller dysfunctional group and i worked for a business that was also just a small dysfunctional group.

What I say: "I'm spiritual, you know."
What I mean: "I like gazing at my navel."

Is this a forum for JW issues or a poorly designed political and celebrity site?
by Band on the Run init appears to me that even in the few months that i have been here there is less and less emphasis on jehovah's witnesses and anything remotely related to jws and more very poor posts about politics, foreign affairs and celebrities.
i can't omit the juvenile sex ones, which i find lacking in erotic nature.
it seems the 6th grade boys are meeting in the locker room.. the posts that involve jws have a very different tone from the drivel posted on others.

But, Band on the Run, to where will you go?

Speaking of collecting things... I'm beginning to think that collecting things (anything) is stupid. Say you spend your lifetime collecting dolls or something. You got a million of 'em in your house, you can hardly turn around. Then you die. Your grandchildren are wondering, "what the hell are we going to do with all these f'ing dols, you can't give the things way." Someone says, "Maybe they're valuable, let's put them on ebay. You look on ebay, and there's a million dolls for sale from people with dead grandmothers, just like you. You find out the dolls are worth about two cents each. So much for your inheritance. Somebody ends up with a ton of useless dolls in their basement because they feel bad about just taking them to the dump, 'cause granny loved them so much.

How can JW's not believe in the soul and yet believe in the spirit?
by Terry inthis is a real puzzler.. for christendom at large there is no problem in thinking of humans as a body (tent) which houses the soul.. for jehovah's witnesses the human is the tent.
no soul is contained.
(they make "soul" the same as body.).

Name some "great" bands/artists you detest
by keyser soze inmusicians that are considered iconic, that people look at you funny when you say how much you hate them?.
personally, i've never been able to stand ac/dc.
besides the lead singer's whiny, annoying voice that sounds like nails on a chalk board, there's nothing at all to the music.

I like early Bruce, but he's waaaaaaaaaaay overrated. Zevon was a much better songwriter.

The Good Book: A Humanist Bible
by Elsewhere inan interesting new book was just released.
i received my copy in the mail yesterday.
it is based on many non-religious sources of inspiration around the world to produce a "bible" that is 100% secular.. while reading it i did find that it has a "feel" very similar to the bible in that it is written in chapter and verse with lots of metaphors and storytelling.. i haven't read it much yet due to not having time, but i did read a few pages and thumbed through it a bit.

I hope this Kurt Vonnegut quote is in there somewhere (Vonnegut 1:1?):
"There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- God damn it, you've got to be kind."
