They Found Me
by keyser soze ini don't know how, but they found me.
not the feds, and not the irs.
the local elders found me.. i was on my way to meet some people after work when my cell phone rings.

DanTheMan
But I'm going to have to deal with the inevitable and face them at some point.
No you won't. They will likely stop by this wknd, but who says you have to answer the door? And now that you won't be answering your cell when you don't recognize the number, stopping by will be their only means of trying to contact you, and I can almost guarantee that they will give up, at least for a while, after three tries.
They're under pressure because of the DO/CO visit, but they're only human - they'll ramp up their attempts to corner you from time-to-time, but it won't be a constant situation.

Those here who disassociated- do you regret it?
by JimmyPage indoes anyone here who disassociated regret it?
do you wish you had just faded instead?
did disassociating give you a liberating feeling of power over your life?
-
DanTheMan
Sometimes I do. In hindsight, I think it would have been cool to pull off a successful fade as that's what the Depends-wearers in brooklyn seem to hate the most, that is, people walking away and not looking back. I could have done it too - my circumstances were such at the time that the elders would have had a very difficult time tracking me down.
When you DA, you're still defining yourself in relationship to them, still actively participating in their vast labeling system that they use to categorize every person that has ever had any sort of tie to JWism.
Otoh, if I had faded, then I would have always felt so awkward when I saw former JW acquaintances out in public or at work or whatever - 'do i say hi? should I approach them or make eye contact? what will i say if they approach me? do they know that I'm faded?' Those sorts of tricky social situations are very taxing for me, and by DA'ing I was able to circumvent all that. -

Is it now safe to say the pioneer hour reduction rumor was a hoax?
by neverendingjourney inas far as i know, there's been nothing new on this front.
i first heard the rumor over the summer, and most of us assumed the change would be implemented in september, the beginning of the service year, yet nothing's happened.
should we admit to being deceived, or is there some reason to believe the reduction of hours is coming soon, sort of like armageddon..

actually...it is just that every minute will be counted as an hour...
iow, making an unoffical practice official...LOL

Peculiar NWT rendering: System of Things
by Athanasius inthis morning at church i read the new testament lesson, which was ephesians 1:15-23, from the new revised standard version bible.
verse 20-21 says:.
"god put this power to work in christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come.".

I've seen the NWT described as a "wooden" translation, which is apt. Accuracy issues aside, just reading it gives you a feel for Freddie Franz's very odd personality.

Why are JW's afraid of dear old Ray?
by wobble inno active dub will read "crisis of conscience" by ray franz because it is "apostate".
now if it is truly apostate,in the sense of being scripturally wrong then the wt has had 20 years or more to expose it,same as if it is factually wrong.. if it is neither, then the wt has had 20 or so years to put their house in order,so reading it now, dubs should say "oh yea we've changed that,so no worries".
so why can't they read it now?.

I knew one elder who was very proud of the fact that he read it cover-to-cover and emerged from the experience as zealous as ever. Hard to believe, I know, but you'd have to know him to understand. He was one of those highly intelligent people who have that odd ability to jump through the highest of high mental hoops to protect their all-encompassing worldview. For me, reading it was the most liberating experience of my entire life.

Why the hey did we not WALK away in 1995?? the gen. thing
by oompa ini remember arguing with a bethel elder friend of mine during a long ride to an assembly about the"new light" in 1995....that the generation of 1914 is not the "this generation" that jesus referred to: .
(luke21:32)32 truly i say to you, this generation will by no means pass away until all things occur.
yep....pretty damm simple to me for 45 years...the generation that sees all the "signs" will not die before armageddon....thus we honest hearted ones pleaded with our back calls, or return visits to study with us before it is too late!....the time is soooo short, cause these 1914 folk are gettin damm old!....hurry in and be saved!.

In 1995 I was still relatively new to JWism and I didn't study ahead that week, nor did I pay much attention when the material was being covered at the meeting. I wish I had had been paying more attention and had more knowledge of just how long they had been beating the drum of a literal 1914 generation to scare dubs into submission and gain converts, and how they kept stretching out the interpretation as the decades went by, until it finally broke.
From Mary's project thingy:
Since “Jehovah’s people includes all Witnesses, the (absurd) idea is to suggest that the average Witness had some say in shaping this doctrine in the first place and must therefore bear part of the blame for “speculating”:
“...Eager to see the end of this evil system, Jehovah's people have at times speculated about the time when the "great tribulation" would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. However, we "bring a heart of wisdom in," not by speculating about how many years or days make up a generation, but by thinking about how we "count our days" in bringing joyful praise to Jehovah. (Psalm 90:12) Rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term "generation" as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics.” 208
Sickening, the way the WTS can basically take a dump on the flock like this, blame them for the shit on their faces, and get away with it.

It took a pretty heavy drubbing by the critics, largely for a having an unbelievable plot and going a little overboard on creating a perfect 1920's look. But critics are wrong sometimes - I'll check it out on DVD when it comes out.

Faders have their heads in the always-very-soon-to-be-dropped Armageddon guillotine according the WTS. It's all about group survival in JW-land, and those who fall behind the pack quickly become persona non grata.
