I enjoyed the chapter titled "Justification and Intimidation" - reveals the manipulative and propagandistic techniques that the WT employs to beat JW's into submission.
I loaned it to my mom (never a JW) and she is taking her sweet time with it. Give me my book back ma!

How did your KIDS react when you left?
by Prisca injust curious here..... if you left the "truth" when you still had children living at home, what was their reaction to your leaving?.

Interesting responses.
(((zev))) what a shame. I hate you Watchtower!!!!!
I grew up Catholic, I can't imagine my parents having sat me down at some point and saying "we were mistaken about the Church, and we're not going to attend anymore". My becoming JW was largely a rebellion against my Catholic upbringing. I thought that the WT was the antithesis of the RCC. Wrongo!
I was always popular with the kids at the KH. I hope that my disassociating creates curiosity in some of them, a willingness to question what they're being taught. Maybe that's wishful thinking.

What Was The 1st Thing That Made You Question?
by minimus inas a youngster raised in the "truth", i had my questions.
but anytime you ask a question that is unanswerable, you are told to just wait on jehovah.
as time passes, i believe that we store up a number of unanswerable questions that forces one to eventually think about everything.

Good posts!
I was always popular with the kids at the hall. I guess I'm the playful sort, I'm good at making kids laugh. I thought that it must be a terrible thing to be raised a JW, unless you're home-schooled and every blood relative that you know of is JW. And I knew that if one of those kids were mine and they needed a blood transfusion to live, I wouldn't hesitate.
Also, some of the asinine stuff that they were putting in the publications. I cracked up at the intro to the Proclaimers book, how they say that surely the WT is the most qualified to give a candid, objective history of itself. Big LOL! I thought, God they must think we're so stupid! Unfortunately most dubbies read a statement like that a don't give it a second thought.

Describe Your "STATUS" In The Congreg...
by minimus inif you were to describe what your status was in the congregation, what would it be?
were you viewed as mature?
in "good standing", a pain in the rear?

Brother Struggling.
I once told an elder that it seems that everybody in the troof is lumped into two categories: The Doing Goods, and The Strugglings. I got so tired of hearing about how so-and-so wasn't "doing anything with the truth" and similar expressions.

Why did YOU want to live forever??
by Scully inwhat was it about living forever that appealed to you when you were a jw?.
was it the idea that you'd have all the time in the world to do whatever you wanted to do?
were you thinking about travelling the world and seeing it all transformed into a paradise?

(((Beck))) I didn't know...
It wasn't the prospect of living forever that appealed to me, but the idea of never having to die. Fear of death is a terrible thing. The more I contemplated the idea of living forever as a human on the earth, the more the idea seemed absurd. I expressed this to many elders, their predictable response was that I lacked faith in Jerhover's promises. Whatever.

Genevieve:
*sigh* isn't she lovely? Oh, how I would ravish her! Paige is a fine, fine female also.
Actually I loved the copper wall thing Gen did. I thought that was the coolest! I tend to like Gen's designs the best. I love her free-spiritedness. Wish I was as uninhibited and fun-loving as she is!
The funniest episode (that I've seen, I only see the show here and there when I'm at my sister's house) was where Hilda had them spray-painting a couch bright pink. Then they put it outside to dry with a tarp over it. A storm came in and blew the tarp off and ruined the paint job. They ended up going over-budget because they had to buy them a new couch. It was so funny.
Frank's designs are OK, but I like watching him because he is so funny.
